Truro youth player Stephen Wood has moved to St Johnstone after the sides agreed to a fee of £39,000. Wood had only been at Truro for one season and has yet to make his professional debut.

“To move to a club which plays in the top division of the country is a terrific opportunity” said Wood. “I hope to make the move a very successful one and I would like to thank everyone at Truro for making it possible for me.” he added.

The 16 year old midfielder will attempt to make an impression while playing for the St Johnstone U19’s and progress into the senior squad in a few years.

Truro started the season against Shrewsbury at Treyew Road, controlling play early and creating a couple of chances. In the 37th minute, Truro took advantage of their dominance when Bradley Tarbuck scored after getting onto a ball from Aiden O’Brien, giving Truro the lead at the break.

The second half was much like the first, Truro dominating play, although Shrewsbury did produce a chance or two but failed to get their shots on target. In the


Truro faced Sky Bet Championship side Wolves in the opening round of the Capital One Cup as heavy underdogs. As expected, James Hurst opened the scoring for Wolves, getting on the end of a corner from Chris Atkinson to take the lead. Wolves would continue to dominate the rest of the half but would go to the break with just a one goal lead.

After the break, Truro captain Chez Isaac levelled the score, heading home a cross from Kelvin Etuhu. Two minutes later, Truro took the lead when club icon Stewart Yetton was put through by Etuhu, placing the ball past Carl Ikeme to give Truro the lead. Wolves would continue to attack but despite having 25 shots during the whole game, they would not manage to equalise, giving Truro one of the greatest victories in the clubs history.


Truro faced recently promoted Wrexham, going in as heavy favourites. Wrexham took the lead when in the 30th minute, Joe Pigott would finish off a lovely move with a great strike on the outside of his boot past Daniel Lincoln to go to the break ahead by a goal.

Straight after the break, Billy Bodin hit a spectacular free kick to give Wrexham a two goal advantage. In the dying minutes, Wrexham would score again through Robert Ogleby, handing Truro a 3-0 defeat which saw them fail to get a shot on target during the entire match in an appalling display.


Bury was the first to get on the scoresheet when an unfortunate deflection would see Truro goalkeeper Daniel Lincoln put the ball into his own net in the 21st minute. Truro would control possession for the rest of the half but it was Bury who went to the break holding the advantage.

After half time, Bradley Tarbuck got Truro back into the game when he got on the end of a cross from Jared Sims and scoring with a powerful header. The game would fall into a lull until Ashley Fletcher scored for Bury in the 76th minute, converting a one on one opportunity. In the 89th minute, Sam Griffiths would score, set up by Fletcher to give Bury the three points.


Heading into the match on the back of two appalling defeats, Truro carried on with their poor form, conceding three goals in the opening 20 minutes against Chesterfield. Richard Brown opened the scoring with a placed shot and Chris Lester would score twice in two minutes. Truro managed to maintain possession in the rest of the first half but went into half time down 3-0.

Jared Sims would score after the break for Truro, hitting a volley from a Bradley Tarbuck cross. Only five minutes later, Russell Hilton would score for Chesterfield with an incredible left footed strike into the top right corner of the goal. The sides would continue to go back and forth for the rest of the match, seeing Chesterfield stroll to a comfortable victory.


The draw for the second round of the Capital One Cup was unkind to Truro, facing Premier League side Swansea away from home. Inside the first 30 minutes, Swansea found themselves up after Joao Rojas and Wilfried Bony scored twice each. Truro would regain some composure after a poor start but headed to half time down 4-0.

After the break, Joao Rojas completed his hat trick, surging past Josh Langley and blasting the ball into the back of the net. Truro scored next when club legend Stewart Yetton capitalised on a mistake from Vegard Forren, putting the ball past Kyle Price. Despite this, Swansea would continue to pile on the misery, scoring two more times to claim a 7-1 victory.

Truro got off to a poor start in the Sky Bet League 2, currently sitting in the relegation zone. Despite upsetting Wolves in an incredible effort, their league form must be the priority for the rest of the season.

“Truro must make changes to their tactics and squad if they are any hope of survival.” said former Truro manager and current Torquay assistant manager Lee Hodges.


In his first month at the club, 22 year old right winger Bradley Tarbuck has had a solid start at Truro. Tarbuck has scored twice as well as providing an assist this month.

Tarbuck showed impressive form in the pre-season and is looking to carry on his good form for the rest of the season. If he can develop to his potential, Truro may have a player who will be at the club for a very long time.


Life doesn’t become easier for Truro as they head into September, facing Sky Bet League One side Swindon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy 1st Round.

In the league they face two sides who were relegated from the Sky Bet League One last year in Rotherham and Coventry as well as the three sides who finished above them last season in the Sky Bet League Two.

Rather torrid end to the month there, must've been tough to take
