NsaneAxeman : It just shows you how the English leagues are compared to Scotland. A good quality player signing for the lowest tier of English league football when the majority of the teams in the Scottish premier couldn't even get anyone close to his stature.

Looks like Sneijder is also heading from Real to Inter for 16million Euros.

Still hoping to see some big names go to the Premier but it's looking increasingly unlikely.

Dont understand why your having a pop at the Scottish league the guy knocked back premiership clubs to go to Notts C so is league 2 a bigger league than the premiership ?

I said a player of that stature, not Sol Campbell exactly. After watching all the SPL teams in europe so far I think it's pretty obvious why I'd have a pop at the Scottish league. It's dismal viewing and it means a lot of Scottish players miss out on european experience again.

Scottish football dont have a team with a multi million investor they have to live within there means im sure if a consortium ploughed silly money into Aberdeen for example and said money is no object buy who you want then im sure they could attract players of Sol Campbells "stature" the fact is there is 0 money in our game right now however i dont feel that the old firm are worse than a lot of premiership sides outside the top 4-6 and im sure the Edingburgh teams would be mid championship sides think thats pretty decent considering we are a smaller nation in football standards with very little dosh in our game we were royally screwed when Setanta went bust and the money they promised was not paid and the joint sky/ESPN deal is a disgrace the fact English football has so much money clouds the fact that a lot of Premiership sides are average at best and bottom 5-6 sides in that division would struggle to finish 3rd in spl what makes English football so exciting is a) Top 4 sides are 4 of the best teams in the world and b) bottom half sides treat home games against them as their cup final and always always raise their game against them making it exciting matches

I know there's no money in the Scottish game but Hearts did have someone come with money but he turned out to be a twat. I seriously doubt the bottom sides of the EPL would struggle to come 3rd. Rangers and Celtic are not as good as they were a few years ago and any team in the EPL would have a decent chance of coming in the top 2 of the SPL.

Yes Setanta screwed the SPL and yes the money from the Sky/ESPN deal was pitiful but there's also a credit crunch and any money is better than none and the old firm always feel they deserve the lions share.

I feel with the fanbase big 2 in Scotland have they could easily adapt to premiership once the money started coming in and to say ANY team in epl could break into the big 2 in Scotland is not true im not saying Rangers and Celtic would be challenging for europe if they played in epl but they would not be in the bottom 4-7 teams maybe im looking at it with blinkers on because i watch Scottish football week in week out but teams like old firm Hearts and Hibs really do play good football and i think watching them reguarly you would see that sure Scottish teams struggle in Europe but it is a massive learning curve adjusting to European style football compared to domestic English clubs used to be woeful when the champs league first started but they have now learned how to play against foreign sides and dominate the Champions league

I watch scottish football every week too, I try to go to every Falkirk match I can. Playing good football and being a good team is 2 different things. Rangers played " negative " football to get to the UEFA cup final in Manchester. ( I don't think it was negative football but thats how the papers described it) . Falkirk played good football last season and other seasons but never quite have the goal scoring edge.

Hearts are a decent side but don't always play to what they can, Hibs will get better under Yogi and Dundee Utd are a decent side too. With the amount of players in some teams who come from abroad, probably most notably Hearts they should know how to play in Europe.

Any team in the EPL could come into the SPL and do well, with the fan base that Celtic and Rangers have they should be able to get better in the EPL. It's a different situation coming from the EPL to SPL than it would be taking them from the SPL to the EPL.

We will agree to disagree then i dont think a lot of teams from epl could drop into spl take the financial blow and still have a team to split the old firm i think these teams are average but the money they get via tv means they can buy decent enough players to stay in the epl
lads, easy on the quotes, you guys dont need to quote everytime :p
Won't quote now since it's getting massive. Of course the financial hit would be big but I meant that the teams as they are currently and I thought thats what you also meant. Nothing about considering the other implications.

Like everything else in the world it's a 2 sided coin. Not having money means Scottish teams have to use homegrown players which is good that the young Scottish players get a first team chance. However you need the money to reinforce teams to make them more viable for europe to give the young Scottish players the next step to improve themselves.

Edit : Yup I apologise for the overuse of quotes.
