TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY
Newcastle have been one of the busy clubs in the final day of the transfer window bringing in two new players to the delight of the Newcastle fans.
The first signing has been the FC Red Bull Salzburg wonder kid Kevin Kampl for £4.6 million. The 23 year old can play in numerous positions ranging from a sitting central midfielder to a dangerous right winger. It is believed that Kampl has been brought in primarily to play out wide however Villas Boas has told the press that the various position Kempl can play was an important factor in attracting him towards the player.
However as one right winger has been brought in another one has been offloaded out. The Newcastle manager has once again created controversy as Hatem Ben Arfa has left the club to join AC Milan for a reported fee of £16.5 million. Fans who did not want to see Ben Arfa part company with the club anyway have stated their dissatisfaction at the fee which they believe to be below his true value. However, once again Villas Boas has responded stating that Ben Arfa was not a great presence around the team and was keen to see him leave. He also stated that the fee was maybe a little less than he might have liked, however the lack of interest forced his fee to slightly lower than the expected £20 million he thought he might have got for him.
The English centre back Ryan Shawcross has been brought in from Stoke to add quality to the centre back position at Newcastle for a reported fee of £6.5 million. The fans are happy with the transfer and see it as a good replacement for Fabricio Collocini who even they agree was advancing towards the latter stages of his career. Shawcross is a fairly young and determined centre back at the age of 26 and is tipped to be a permanent England centre back in the future.
