Feyenoord Quick To Dismiss Southampton Interest In Pellè

Eredivisie side Feyenoord have dismissed an enquiry regarding the availability of Italian striker Graziano Pellè - by Ronald Koeman, who left De Kuip just this summer.

Taking the vacant managerial position at St Mary's Stadium, the new Southampton boss was reportedly very keen on bringing the 28-year-old Italian with him to England. Koeman joined the club whom he ended his playing career with in 2011, but it was announced at the end of last season that the Dutchman, 51, would leave his post to 'pursue other ambitions'.

Koeman, whose previous employers include Ajax and Benfica, took over from Mauricio Pochettino after the Argentinian left for White Hart Lane earlier this month. One of his first pieces of business was to sell fan favourite Rickie Lambert (along with club captain Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw), and it was clear that change was imminent at the Hampshire club - but who would fill the boots of a man who had left such a mark on the club?

Koeman expected that man to be Graziano Pellè, whom he had worked with for two years at Feyenoord. When the Italian was brought in on loan from Parma in 2012, he impressed, scoring 27 goals in 29 league starts. Koeman decided to sign the striker on a permanent deal, and last season, he impressed yet again - 23 goals in 28 games is something that any striker could be pleased with.

But Southampton were left disappointed when new boss Fred Rutten dismissed the enquiry, and Southampton will have to turn to other targets to replace Lambert. Dani Osvaldo, who returns to St Mary's after spending a season on loan with Serie A champions Juventus is keen to impress following a disappointing start to his career in England, but the new manager still seems set on buying a new forward. Pellè refused to comment on the news out of respect for both his current club, and the manager he worked with at Feyenoord.
Pellè would be a very good replacement for Lambert imo, has been great in the Eredivisie
Really Good Update LFC! Keep it Up !
I see Guidetti ended up at Southampton!
Good write-up Adam, Pellè would be a good acquisition so hopefully you can pick him up!

Defensive pair sign for Southampton as rebuild process continues at St Mary's

  • New Zealand centre back and Welsh fullback unveiled at Staplewood training ground after signing from West Ham and Swansea respectively
  • Winston Reid, 25, and Ben Davies, 20, become the latest additions to Southampton squad
  • Pair join Tim Cahill, who joined The Saints earlier this week

  • Winston Reid and Ben Davies were officially unveiled as new Southampton players following their moves from West Ham United and Swansea City late last night. The pair, who both play at international level for their countries, were unveiled in front of journalists at the Southampton training ground this morning, after agreeing deals in the late hours of last night. Reid and Davies had medicals at the club last week.

Heading South: Winston Reid makes the switch from London to the South coast after agreeing to contract terms last night

Following their official unveiling this morning (09:00 GMT), Reid was pulled aside by a reporter for Southampton's official website, and told them: "Ronald Koeman is a great manager, and has coached some great sides. No disrespect to Sam Allardyce and West Ham United, but Southampton are a club that shows a lot of promise, and that is something that I want to be a part of. Of course they sold the three players earlier this month, but they are working extremely hard to replace them, and to improve the quality of the squad on a whole. I'd like to thank West Ham for the time I spent with them, but am now fully committed to Southampton."

Reid signs for The Saints for a fee believed to be just under £5 million, and the New Zealand captain was keen to join the rest of the squad in training, instantly striking up a friendship with Croatian centre back Dejan Lovren, whom is likely to be his partner in the coming season.

Ben Davies signs from Swansea City after accepting a four year contract with The Saints, for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million. The 20-year-old is considered by many as a big prospect and the fullback has already made 5 appearances for the Welsh national team. Davies is considered to be Luke Shaw's natural replacement at Southampton, despite the Manchester United and England defender being two years younger than him.

The Welshman, who is a supporter of fellow Premier League club Arsenal was a reported target of Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal's North London rivals just last week, but no bid was made.

The two players will be keen to impress Koeman, both in training and in the pre-season friendlies that are ongoing, and we are sure to see more names coming in for Southampton in the coming weeks, with a big amount of money left over from the sales of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw earlier this month.
    Love the very realistic layout!
GOD DAMN! THAT LAYOUT! Awesome update Adam:).
Terrific layout, looking forward to seeing how Winston Reid performs for you.

Midfield duo arrive at Staplewood following contract signing - Schneiderlin exit drawing near?

Midfielders Jermaine Jones and Dani Parejo arrived in England this morning ahead of signing contracts with Barclays Premier League club Southampton, with speculation that French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin's rumoured exit from the club is on the horizon.

Jones, 31, represented The United States of America at this summer's World Cup, with his team narrowly losing out to Belgium in the last sixteen. The midfielder was released by German club Schalke at the end of last season, meaning that Southampton were able to pick him up on a free transfer, but U.S. manager Jürgen Klinsmann still picked the German-born player, who has actually played three times for Germany during the earlier stages of his career. The experienced midfielder scored a wonder goal against Portugal in Group G, as the underdogs held Cristiano Ronaldo's side to a draw, and progressed ahead of the Real Madrid wingers' nation.

It was only in extra time that the U.S.A were cruelly knocked out of the biggest stage in world football, but there was no sign that they were going to give up after going two goals behind to Belgium, and pulled one goal back, but it was too late. Jones has spent almost the entirety of his career in Germany, playing for the likes of Frankfurt and Leverkusen as well as recently playing for Schalke. He has had one spell in England, when he was sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers, and it will be interesting to see if the experienced midfielder can adapt to life in the Premier League.

Dani Parejo showed everyone what he was capable of last season in a Valencia shirt by delivering some astounding performances for the Spanish club

The other player to join is 24-year-old Spanish midfielder Dani Parejo, who signs a four year contract with Southampton, after Valencia sent the last paperwork through to Southampton representatives to make the deal official. The Spaniard had a fantastic season with Valencia last year, but he was let go for a relatively cheap transfer fee, with Southampton paying just under £5 million for his services. The Saints reportedly warded off interest from Liverpool to secure their fifth signing of the transfer window, but what do these new additions mean for Morgan Schneiderlin?

With it previously reported that the Milan rivals and Tottenham Hotspur were readying bids for the Frenchman, Jones and Parejo are being talked about as potential replacements for the highly rated midfielder.
Great layout Adam and some good signings too in Davies and Reid.
Loving this. Wondering if Morgan will leave? Hope not.
