Chilean striker joins Southampton to replace recently departed Rickie Lambert

  • Chile forward arrived at Staplewood training ground this morning to train with rest of squad
  • Eduardo Vargas, 23, becomes sixth Saints signing of summer and will wear the No 14 shirt at English club
  • Chile international costs Ronald Koeman's side £6.75 million from Serie A side Napoli

  • Eduardo Vargas was officially unveiled in front of journalists this morning as Southampton's newest signing, after finalizing a move from Italian side S.S.C. Napoli in the early hours of this morning. The Chilean forward, who turns 24 in November, replaces Rickie Lambert who left for Liverpool earlier this month for £4 million. The winger, who joined Napoli in 2012, costs Southampton a fee of £6.75 million, despite a strong showing for Chile in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and costing Napoli almost twice the price of what they have now agreed to sell to Southampton for.

National Pride: Vargas netted against previous world champions Spain as his Chile side progressed from Group B ahead of them; they were later knocked out by hosts Brazil in a tense penalty shootout - Vargas started the match, but was substituted at half time

Vargas was a key feature in an impressive Chile side, and the winger, who spent some of last season on loan at Liga BBVA side Valencia told The Daily Mail that he is looking forward to this new challenge.

After so much promise was shown by you in the World Cup, were you surprised to be sold by your club, Napoli?

Not particularly, they have so many other fantastic options at the club, and I'd spent a couple of seasons out on loan before this move, so I didn't really see much of a future for me there. But with Southampton, it's different - they are a club who is going through a change at the moment, having sold some key players, and I'm honoured that I'm considered a viable option to replace some of them. Here, I'm more likely to be played often by Ronald Koeman and that is something that Napoli could not give me. Ronald is another reason why I decided to come here - he is a fantastic manager, who was worked with some top clubs and players, and I think that working under his management will benefit my career greatly.
Another great update Adam and a very nice signing too!
Vargas is an awesome player, I'm sure he'll do brilliantly for the club. Lovely update as always :D
    VARGAS! :D What a signing.
Great signing! Vargas is a beast and should do well :D
    Great start. :)

NO MORE BUSINESS, SAYS SAINTS BOSS WITH BEISTER DEAL COMPLETE

Max-ed Out: Is the capture of Beister really the last dealing of the window for Ronald Koeman's Saints?

After wrapping up a deal for 22-year-old Hamburg winger Maximilian Beister, Southampton gaffer Ronald Koeman has announced that there will be no more business during the current transfer window.

During the press conference to unveil the German youngster, a Sky Sports journalist asked the Dutchman whether any more players would be joining his side. Having already completed the signings of Winston Reid, Tim Cahill, Jermaine Jones, Eduardo Vargas, Dani Parejo and now Beister, Koeman simply replied, "No. There will be no more business from us from this moment."

With the speculation regarding Morgan Schneiderlin's future still ongoing, has Koeman sent a warning to his suitors to step back in their chase to sign the French midfielder?

A.C. Milan have responded to this, by saying that they will not be so easily stopped in their pursuit of the 23-year-old - they are rivaled by city rivals Inter in their quest to sign Schneiderlin.

However, others say that Koeman was simply talking about incoming transfers, and that sales of Southampton players could still happen, while others suggest that the 51-year-old intended to mislead Schneiderlin's pursuers by giving a broad statement.

Maximilian Beister was pictured at the Southampton training ground this afternoon, warming up with his new team-mates after completing a £5 million move from Bundesliga side Hamburger SV. The winger is considered by Koeman and his scouting team as a perfect replacement to former captain Adam Lallana, who left for Liverpool earlier this month for £25 million.
dat pun tho xD. Great update as per usual Adam :)
That joke was very punny. Great update again and nice signing as well.
