Dresden Collapse Without Pote in Derby

In the Cold: Pote misses out on derby action

After storming off, and assualting a team-mate in the last Dresden match, striker Mickael Pote sat out the Saschen Derby with Aue, as 21 year old loan signing Johaness Wurtz took his place, his first start since a loan move from Werder Bremen. The dropping of Pote has sparked a spate of rumours that he's unhappy at Dresden, but with no official comment from either himself or the club, his future seems to still be up in the air.

Pote's absence is one of two changes to the Dresden lineup today, as Kleberson replaces Losilla in the heart of midfield, with his maturity hopefully a major factor in this match.

Dresden XI to face Aue

Kirsten, Schuppan, Susac, Bregerie, Menz, Kleberson, Fiel, Dedic, Trojan, Koch, Wurtz
Subs: Sabah, Losilla, Hartmann, Benyamina, Balogun, Kempe, Aoudia

First Half

Dresden started brightly, and new man Wurtz made an instant impact: Some great team play brought the ball to the edge of the Aue area, where Trojan played a smart one-two with Koch, before lifting the ball over the goalkeeper, where Wurtz met it with a powerful volley to put Dresden ahead. 1-0 afrer just five minutes.

The defensive frailties that Ingolstadt exposed last game, returned to haunt Dresden after 15 minutes, when Susac's careless challenge brought down Fink just inside the box, and the referee gave a somewhat soft penalty. Susac saw yellow for his protests, and Paulus made no mistake with the spot kick to bring Aue level.

With Dresden on the back foot, Fink met Janjic's square ball with his right foot, sending the ball crashing into the roof of the net, and silencing the Dresden fans. Could Young's side come back from this? Trojan had once again signalled to the bench that he needs to come off, and he was replaced by Tobias Kempe after just half an hour. Kempe quickly fell victim to a poor challenge from an Aue defender, as the game became more and more heated, but he shook his head when asked if he needed to come off, and just before half time, his mazy run and snapshot across the Aue goalmouth were a late warning shot to the Aue defence.

Half Time

After half-time, the Dresden front line was re-arranged slightly: Kempe moved out to the left wing, while Wurtz dropped into the hole, and Benyamina replaced the toothless Dedic. To no avail however, has Janjic capitalised on a defensive error to make it 3-1 to Aue, and practically bury Dresden's comeback hopes.

Benyamina and Susac both had chances to equalise with 20 minutes remaining, but Benyamina's shot was palmed behind for a corner, and Susac's header was wild, and ended up in the stands. With little left to lose, Young told his players that they "better start playing f%~*ing football."

With the short Englishman on the touchline seemingly losing it, and his side falling apart, Guido Kocer put the result beyond doubt with a spectacular over-head kick which found the top corner of the net.

Full Time: Aue 4-1 Dresden

In the wake of an embarrassing loss to Aue in the derby, Dresden bounced back with style, loan signing Johannes Wurtz fast becoming a fan-favourite with his fast passing, determination and commitment to every aspect of his development at the club, Wurtz is proving to be popular with fans and players alike. With a change of formation, Wurtz's never-say-die attitude has been a big influence this month.

Opening the month with a home win against Furth was the perfect tonic for the loss to Aue; Schuppan converted a penalty won by Wurtz, as he was dragged to the ground in a reckless challenge, and Wurtz was again at the center of the winning goal - lifting a ball over the Furth defence for Dedic to convert on the volley.

Another 2-1 victory followed, with 26 year old Amine Aoudia stepping into the shoes of the still-absent Mickael Pote, amidst rumours he has been absent from training for around a month. Aoudia displayed his credentials with two sublime goals in the first half to seal the result.

Dresden's winning streak continued with a 4-2 win over Karlsruhe, in which Schuppan scored his 2nd penalty in 3 games, followed by two goals from Bregerie inside ten minutes to put Dresden 3-0 up. Karlsruhe quickly pulled two goals back, before Wurtz fired home from the edge of the box to seal the result, and send his side rocketing up the table.

The final game of the month was an all-action thriller away from home at Bielefeld, televised nationwide, and it was a tour de force for Dresden, in which team work and spirit saw Koch, Dedic and Bregierie score, and Wurtz provide a sublime assist for the latter goal, as Dynamo ran out 3-1 victors to cap a spectacular month for the relegation candidates.

Pote: Dresden Will Crumble Without Me

Frozen Out: Pote hasn't played for Dresden since the opening match

Out of favour Dynamo Dresden striker Mickael Pote has today told the world's media that his club will "crumble without me there", as he continues to be frozen out by manager Tony Young.

Pote was frustrated at being substituted in the match against Inglostadt, Pote shoved his vice-captain Cristian Fiel as he took the armband, shouting at him (the content of this screaming match has not yet been revealed) and ignoring his team-mates in the dugout as he stormed up the tunnel.

We understand that Pote has since missed 4 training sessions, and is putting in minimal effort when he does show up. Tony Young is sure to be considering his choice of replacement captain for the side, as his sulking leader shows no signs of conceding his ground.

"Yes, they're playing well just now, but sooner or later they will realise that they need me. They need me badly - other defences are scared of me, and rightly so. I've been nothing but good to this club, and sooner or later, it will all implode, and they'll come running back." Pote told this site yesterday that he was considering his options. But for manager Tony Young, that consideration is not Pote's to be making

"I'm dissapointed at Mickael. We have brought in a lot of new faces, both young and experienced heads, and I was looking to him, as club captain, to bring the side together and help the guys gel; but against Inglostadt, he managed exactly the opposite - bringing his personal feelings and grudges to bear in the middle of a game. Cristian [Fiel] tells me that he's still not recieved an apology, but the big guy has done a great job at stepping in to fill that gap, and lead the side so far this season."

Fiel himself was unavailable for comment on this issue, but there's sure to be further developments, and we'll bring you them as we get them.
Wow great detail and graphics! Love a good LLM story too. I'll be following!
I really like this story, it's a great choice of club!
Thanks guys :) hopefully get a couple updates out this week :)

Corradi Joins Dresden at 11th Hour

In the USA: Corradi playing for Montreal Impact in 2012

Dynamo Dresden have confirmed the last-gasp signing of Italian striker Bernardo Corradi on a free transfer. The 37 year old has been handed a 1 year deal worth around 3k a week, and has been touted as the replacement for troubled striker Mikael Pote.

A player who has played at the highest level of the league structure in England, Spain and Italy, Corradi has also made 13 appearances for Italy, scoring two goals between 2003 and 2004. We caught up with him to get his thoughts on his first club since leaving Montreal almost a year ago.

"La Germania è un posto che ho voluto giocare sin da quando ero un ragazzino: la qualità, anche nelle serie minori, è incredibile, e Dresda è una squadra che può salire a nuove vette sotto Tony Young, e io sono contento di essere una parte di quel progetto."

Alongside Corradi, Dresden have also brought in and sold several players, for little to no cash, a summary of which can be found below.

After bouncing back in August, Dresden powered on over the course of September, notching 3 wins out of 4 this month, and turning in some more performances of the highest quality. Disgruntled striker Mickael Pote had prophesised that Dresden would "crumble" without him, but the side showed no sign of slowing down in the first 2 matches of the month.

First up, Dusseldorf visited Dresden, and were blown away by a display of attacking force which was kickstarted by Sebastian Schuppan's early goal, as he capitalised on a defensive slip to power a shot past the goalkeeper. Bernardo Corradi made an immediate impact following his transfer, as he lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to increase the Dresden lead to 2-0. Dusseldorf pulled one goal back, before a Bellinghausen own goal sealed a 3-1 victory for Dresden.

Next, the side travelled to meet St Pauli, and were again 3-1 winners: Tobias Kempe opened the scoring with a neat shot which slipped underneath the goalkeeper and in at the near post after just 15 minutes. Despite St. Pauli pulling a goal back, a Zlatko Dedic double sealed a 3-1 victory for Dresden. So far, so good for the club, as they pushed into the promotion zone for the first time this season.

But it all came crashing down against Bochum, as they faltered to a 2-0 loss to the 2nd-placed side, in what could end up being a critical tie.

However, redemption came against Union Berline, with Dedic once again the saviour; his 64th minute volley from outside the box providing the key goal, and allowing his side to end the month on a high.

Love me Corradi! He's a beast in the MLS on my RSL team. Great start to this story, loving the details.

October 2013: Dedic Keeps On Firing

Focus: Dedic Keeps His Eye On The Ball

v Frankfurt (2-2)
Dedic x2
Dedic

v 1860 Munchen (1-0)
Dedic
Leistner

v Nurnberg (2-0)

Having won 3 out of their 4 games last month, Dresden's form turned slightly patchy in October, with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat in their 3 games. Zlatko Dedic was Dresden's hero this month, scoring 3 times in the 3 games to move to 4th in the league's scoring charts, with 8 goals in 12 games so far this season.

The month opened with a trip to Frankfurt, where Dresden opened the month with a bang: Dedic had them ahead after just 21 minutes, as he fired past the Fankfurt goalkeeper, converting Schuppan's driven cross to send the Dresden fans wild!

Frankfurt struck back quickly though; Dominik Kohr capitalised on a defensive error from Anthony Losilla to head past Kirsten just before half-time, meaning Dresden were firmly on the back-foot at half time. After the break, Frankfurt showed no signs of slowing, as Zafer Yelen skipped past 3 players to lash the ball past Kirsten, who was caught flatfooted as he rushed to meet the Frankfurt player's run.

Dedic however, was having none of it, and with 5 minutes remaining, he once again beat the Frankfurt defence, heading home another Schuppan cross, this one drilled high across the goalmouth, and Dedic's slight touch was enough to divert it into the net and salvage a point.

Despite his deeper position throughout the game at Frankfurt, Dedic still had the quality to put Frankfurt's defence to the test, with darting runs from just in front of the back four, to convert two golden chances.

Working Hard: Dedic's Average Position and Heatmap against Frankfurt

At the Allianz, Dedic's early goal was enough to give Dresden the win, as he again combined with Schuppan to convert the latter's cross past Gabor Kiraly in the 1860 goal. However, despite Dedic continuing his prolific form, it was the defensive performance of Toni Leistner which really caught the eye. His multiple interceptions and some critical tackles were central to Dresden's clean sheet in this match, and indeed, reinforced that a good defence is the base of a successful attack.

All Over It: Leistner's Interceptions (Green) Provided A Base For His Sides Attacks

The final match though, was less than impressive, as Dresden collapsed against 5th placed Nurnberg, in another potentially critical game come the end of the season. a 3 minute salvo after an hour from Tomas Peckhart and Park Chu-Young signalled the end of any hope of a Dresden win, and knocked the side from 3rd to 4th in the table heading into November.
