After progressing past Dynamo Kyiv, Liverpool find themselves in the Quarter Final draw for the Europa League. Liverpool ran out comfortable winners in the previous round they will go into the draw with confidence high within the group for sure.
Liverpool have been drawn to play German side Borussia Mochengladbach. With the ties commencing on the 3rd April and the 9th April. Liverpool will travel to Germany for the first leg.

The Semi Final draw took place shortly after the Quarter Final draw, the winner of Liverpool Vs Gladbach will face the winner of the tie between Everton and Napoli. A potential Merseyside Derby in Europe. That will defiantly add an extra incentive for the English clubs and could set up a very interesting tie.

Carragher’s Verdict

Gladbach will provide us with a tough test. They are a good side and deserve to be where they are in the competition, but we will work hard, prepare hard for the game and I’m confident we can progress. The lads will defiantly be up for this one after seeing the Semi Final draw. Things could get interesting

March Update

Liverpool book Wembley spot

Liverpool have booked their place at Wembley after progressing through the quarter final of the FA Cup. Liverpool confidently saw off Tottenham with a 2-0 victory.
Liverpool looked sharp and up for a battle when Tottenham came to Anfield, eager to set the record straight after only recording a point in their two domestic games. From the first to last whistle Liverpool dominated.

Two first half goals from Liverpool was enough against a Tottenham side who looked like they had ran out of ideas. With just under half an hour played Raheem Sterling tested the back line of Tottenham and went on a jinking run, weaving in and out of the players. Kyle walker was caught napping and caught Sterling with his trailing leg after a poorly timed tackle. The referee never doubted his instinct, penalty to Liverpool. Drogba dispatched of it confidently.

Florenzi maintained his good form and secured victory for the reds, Florenzi has proved his worth since joining from AS Roma, with his fourth goal since joining in January. Tottenham never really threatened the Liverpool goal as Pocchetino was left furious with his players.
Tottenham will go on to play Manchester City in the semi – final at Wembley on the 12th April, a date for the Liverpool to look forward to.

Carragher’s Verdict

Unbeaten all month, a good accomplishment for the team. The work this month has been great and I’m very proud of the lads. They have gave everything and put in some great performances. Dyanmo Kyiv was a tough game away from home, we knew away games in Europe would be tough but we got two away goals which gave us a massive advantage to bring back to Anfield. The home leg was all but sealed before half time. The lads were excellent that game, they killed the game early on, we were always in control. The end of the month was a busy one, three games in nine days asked a lot of my players and they delivered. The score lines were not so big, but the performances still spoke volumes and I am pleased with that. Overall a great month, I have also have been pleased with Adam Lallana, a fringe player for most the season due to the form of our other wide players, however with the injuries we have suffered he has had a chance in the first team. These performances have been great and has defiantly put himself back in the frame.

Liverpool announce new youth intake

Liverpool Football Club have announced a new intake of youth players. The candidates will remain at the club on trial to take part in training sessions and matches against the current youth teams. With many exciting prospect’s it’ll be sure that Jamie Carragher will be keeping an eye on this. Early reports from the youth set up at Anfield say a young talent named Dean Walsh has been identified as one for the future. It is thought he is set to be offered a contract at the club.

April Update

Liverpool seal two final dates in standout month for the reds

Liverpool have sealed their spot in the Europa League final, where they will play Premier League rivals Hull City. The two legged tie was all but sealed with an unforgettable night at Anfield. Ex Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez returned to Anfield, it was certainly not a happy return.
Liverpool made easy work of the Italian side, with the reds on top form. Mario Balotelli got the reds off to a flying start, within half an hour the reds were 1-0 up as the Italian calmly slotted home inside the box after poor marking from Napoli. The reds went into half time 2-0 after Alessandro Florenzi found the top corner.

Napoli stepped out into Anfield for the second half looking like a beaten time. On the flip side it appeared that Carragher had sent his men out with a spring in their step and they weren’t content with just the two.

Croatian international Mateo Kovacic continued his rich vein of form and scored Liverpool’s third. His third goal in just two games. Kovacic linked up well with front man Balotelli who held the ball up well before sending through his team mate who couldn’t miss. Strong centre back Mamadou Sakho headed home from a Coutinho corner which but Napoli out of their misery.

With Napoli failing to register an away goal it will be very tough for the Italian outfit to overcome the huge score line, even with a very tough game in Naples to come.

Carragher’s Verdict

By far the best month of my managerial career to date. Looking back I was trying to pick my favourite moment, but I just couldn’t there were so many great moments. Unfortunately it did start with a defeat away to Gladbach but we soon restored the lead in the Quarter final tie and won comfortably over two legs. With four straight wins in the Premier League it even gave a very small outside chance of the Title! No doubt because of vital victories over City and Arsenal in the league. As well as the Europa League Final we also booked a place to play big rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final. A great achievement for the club and with a chance to play in two finals, it shows how far we have come. The month finished with a very strong performance and none sweeter than when Everton come to Anfield, this was for the fans, it’s what they deserved for their great support all season.

May Update

With season coming to an end, Liverpool only had two remaining games in the Premier League in Jamie Carragher’s first season. Even at this late stage the big games still come knocking for Liverpool as they travel to Stamford Bridge. In what could be a Tittle deciding game.
Liverpool went into this game on the back of avoiding defeat for nine straight games. The first half of this game was not very eventful for either side, however it sprung to life in the 45th minute. Two goals from Chelsea in the two minutes of stoppage time but the Blues 2-0 at half time, completely against the run of play. Goals from Willian and Cesc Fabregas saw Mourinho quickly change his tune.

The second half picked up at the same pace as the first half, strangely two more goals in two minutes made the score line 3-1 to Chelsea. Spaniard Diego Costa made it 3-0 however straight from the resulting kick off Lucas Leiva pulled a goal back for the reds.
Mario Balotelli went through on goal and curled a shot around the out rushing Petr Cech to make it a nervous second half for Chelsea however they held on and collected the three points. As a result of this it was official, Jose Mourinho’s team had won the Premier League.

Carragher’s Verdict

It’s all done, that’s it for the Premier League season. We could have finished better and the boys know that, but I think everyone had one eye on the two finals ahead of us. The Napoli game I was very confident in the boys, so I gave a few players a rest, a few players had their chance to prove themselves for a chance to play in the final. Chelsea was a tough game as they showed their great quality. We secured 4th position in the Premier League and Champions League football next season, with the 1-1 draw against Villa. The position we achieved is a great achievement for the club and we can proud of that. We will defiantly look to push on next season.

LIVERPOOL DO THE DOUBLE

Liverpool Football Club had a chance to go down in the clubs record books. The players had the chance to make history, the chance to win two trophies in the short space of a week. Starting off with the Europa League, Liverpool went into this game as favourites as they come up against Premier League strugglers Hull City who have done great to get this far.
Liverpool were disappointed to go out the champion’s league at an early stages so the Europa League soon became something of a priority. Many were expecting Liverpool ease through this Final and for Jamie Carragher to pick up his first bit of silverware as the new Liverpool manager.

This game started very slowly, neither team wanted to give anything away in such an important game, Hull were un able to get out of their half for the majority of the first half. Liverpool were putting on vast amounts of pressure on the Hull City defence. The pressure finally got to them as a slip of concentration from Curtis Davies as he hacked down Mario Balotelli in the box, giving the Italian the chance to score from the spot.

Mario stepped up confidently and slotted home to make it 1-0 and calm the Liverpool fan’s nerves. From there on in Balotelli went on to dominate Hull and they could never really handle him. Liverpool eased their way into a 2-0 lead after Mario got his second when he headed home from a Liverpool corner. Late on in the game there was a second penalty and none of than super Mario stepped up. He completed his hat trick on the big stage as he smashed home the penalty, however the result was never really in any doubt.

Liverpool celebrated immensely, they all showed great work and togetherness to get win the cup under new manager Jamie Carragher and they players showed their faith in him. You could see from the celebrations after the game how much it meant.

FA CUP

Just a few days later came Liverpool’s last game of the season, some could say the biggest. FA Cup final day, against one of their biggest rivals.
This match couldn’t get any bigger for some Liverpool fans. Hopes were high and dreams could become reality within just ninety minutes of football. A sunny day at Wembley welcomed both teams with a great game expected.

A thriller was what they got, Liverpool looked up for this and it did seem that way when Jordan Henderson put the Merseyside team in front with a spectacular effort from long range, leaving David De Gea left wondering what he could of done. Liverpool have been known for quick starts this season and went 2-0 up through a penalty from Balotelli. Mario’s fourth goal in the matter of days. Van Persie went on to pull a goal back for United for only to cancelled out by another Jordan Henderson goal, the English midfielder was enjoying a great game at Wembley as he smashed a low driven shot past De Gea.

Liverpool put one hand on the trophy by adding a fourth goal before the half time whistle. Balotelli again took the penalty, and again scored. The Italian has now scored five goals including two penalties in two finals in just one week. Liverpool were in dreamland, on the verge of winning the competition that has meant so much to the club over its history, against arguably the clubs biggest rivals. This will go down in history. Liverpool did what they needed to do and held off any threats from United an despite a late goal from Juan Mata, Liverpool were the winners of the FA Cup, the Liverpool’s were ecstatic, the players and staff alike went on to celebrate through the night.

Carragher’s Verdict

Wow, I really don’t believe what a world wind of week this has been for me personally and the club. We have won two trophies in the space of week, something that I was defiantly not expecting. I can officially dedicate this to the players and the supporters of the club. The players have been excellent from start to finish this season and I feel they haven’t got the credit they deserve, so now they are true Liverpool legends. I would like to thank everyone at the club who have made this possible. Everyone has been brilliant and we should hope for more success in the future.

Sturridge endured a tough season at Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed today they have accepted an offer for striker Daniel Sturridge. City and Liverpool were in negotiations for a while however City tabled a £33,000,000 pound bit which could rise in the future.
Sturridge went through a poor season from his own admission. His playing time was defiantly limited with the great form of new signing Mario Balotelli. Due to his inconsistent form he found himself playing out wide as well, the same reason he left Chelsea previously in his career.

Sturridge only scored four goals in all competitions. Compared to the excellent Mario Balotelli who scored 31 goals in all competition. Sturridge will have to up his game if he is too find fight his way into the City squad who have Jovetic and Negredo on their books.
Liverpool will be eager to replace Sturridge as early reports suggest both Fabio Borini and Iago Aspas are also on their way out with clubs from Spain and Italy lining up to take their services.

Early reports suggest Robert Lewandoski and Diego Costa are targets after they have both been left unhappy at their current clubs, Kevin Volland of Real Madrid has also been linked.
