THREE SUMMER SIGNING ARRIVE AT ANFIELD

Liverpool have today confirmed three signings ahead of their new Premier League campaign. The first signing is tried and trusted and comes in the shape of Left back Javi Manquillo. Liverpool made his loan move permanent after an impressive first season at Anfield. Manquillo was often the ‘unsung hero’ for Liveprool last season with some solid performances at right back. Manquillo was never first choice at Athletico and has seemed to find a new home in Liverpool.
Manquillo joins for a fee of £7,500,000. Carragher would have had no problem paying this fee as he knows what he is capable of and he can only improve.

The second player to join the reds is young German goal keeper Timo Horn. At the tail end of the previous season rumours were speculating around Anfield that experienced keeper Victor Valdes was unhappy at the club. He later left the club to join French giants PSG. Carragher was eager to replace him with a younger keeper who would later take the gloves from Mignolet. Horn joins from Koln for £3,800,000 after the club activated his transfer clause.
Horn is reportedly happy with the prospect of joining Liverpool and is excited for the many many years to come playing under Jamie Carragher.

The third signing is well known Colombian defender Eder Alvarez Balanta. Balanta has been tipped to become one of the worlds greatest and has had many top European clubs sniffing around for his services. He joins from River Plate for a fee of £8,500,000. It is undecided yet as to whether Balanta will stay at the club this season or go on loan for a season. Balanta will be the fifth centre back on Liverpool’s book.

PRE SEASON REVIEW

http://i58.tinypic.com/2wbrseh.gif

Carragher’s Verdict

Well overall we had a good pre-season with it being world cup year we had lots of players on holiday when preseason came around. This was a positive for me, I used it as a chance to use players from the Under 18’s and Under 21’s. Players had points to prove and a chance to fight for their place. James Ward Prowse returned from loan and captained the side. He showed great potential, however he might not be ready just yet.
Players such as Sergio Canos, Jordan Ibe and Dean Walsh all got a great amount of game time. Some of the fringe players got a chance to do to play and all the new transfers settled in well. With two wins, one draw and one loss it could have gone better but as a whole performances were great.

Again this was something I was not too worried about results wise. I was looking for good performances from the younger players. Ultimately I wanted to get the players fit and prepare the players for the season ahead, with places for the community shield up for grabs.
