Basham97:Grimsby are a decent side but I would have liked to see my side put up more of a fight! Dover are doing very poorly I'm afraid. Thank you.

No1VillaFan:It is going to be very tense but I think play-offs are just out of our reach.

AaronHJFT96:I think this might just be a step too far for me and the club. Maybe next season?

March: A month of two halves...

You can imagine my delight at guiding the club to an unbeaten five games with us putting in some good performances against clubs in and around us in the league. The first game against Braintree was a very close call but as usual, Dayle Southwell stepped up and won us the game as he has done a few times already this season. We should have won the game a lot more comfortably; that is if you take league standings into consideration, which I rarely do as anything can happen. The game against Lincoln was a big one this month as they are battling with us in the top half of the table and have been in and around us for the majority of the season. This was a very confident performance on our behalf and showed the rest of the league that despite probably not getting promotion this season, we will be a team to consider for promotion next season.

The match against Chester was a very close affair and the draw was probably the right result seen as each team just cancelled each other out. It was a very boring game to watch and not one that will go down in folklore but instead be erased from memory very quickly. The next two games are definitely games I want to forget about but the board don’t seem to be letting me just yet. The performance against Harrogate Town was atrocious and I absolutely laid into the players during and after the game. Unsurprisingly the lads didn’t come back at me with any complaints but instead seemed to take the rollicking that they received. Unfortunately having to lay into them left morale damaged; I’m sorry though, losing against Harrogate is inexcusable and if we want to get promotion next season then we have to beat all the teams below is and beat them comfortably.

The game against Luton went as expected but three losses in a row don’t seem to do much for confidence of the players. I am going to have to lay on the encouragement thick in the next month as we are now playing to prove ourselves in this league; maybe we should be considered next season as a club that will clearly avoid relegation and actually challenge more towards the top of the league. I can’t see this happening as over the season we probably haven’t quite done enough to prove to the doubters (haters) that we deserve to be discussed as promotion potentials. Oh and one last thing, despite his shocking attributes, Caine Winfarrah is simply a legend!

Player of the Month – Caine Winfarrah

Really tough way to close out the month, but still doing well in the standings. Keep fighting on!! :D

We will always continue to fight on but I do think the poor end to the last month has ended our chances of gaining a play-off spot. Maybe next season!
Unlucky to lose form at the end of the moth like that

It was unfortunate but we did just fall apart at the same time. Hopefully we can pick it next month and finish on a high!
You have had an awesome season dude! and it will put u in good stead for next season :)

It has gone extremely well and we will be unlucky to miss out on the play-offs. Next season might just be our season!

April: Exceeding expectations...

I have to say that I am over the moon with our final month of games. I am not even going to moan about the Wycombe game like I would have done if it had occurred earlier in the season. It was a month of confident performances and the players showed the desire to finish as high as they could in the league and we have truly out-done ourselves. At the beginning of the season I set the expectations to battle against relegation zone. We have appeared to ignore that and have instead battled for a play-off spot until the very end. Yes we finished ten points behind Bristol Rovers but I do think if December had happened differently and how I intended it to, the final league standings would have been totally different. It is frustrating to look back on that month and I can’t help but see it as the sole reason we didn’t make the play-offs.

Despite the disappointment of that month, which I will not be mentioning it again, I am made up with our performance as a whole and there are number of players who stand out as key contributors to our success. Dayle Southwell finished our top goal scorer with twenty-eight goals in forty-six league appearances. That isn’t too bad a return and without those goals we would definitely have been battling against relegation and will probably have returned to where we came from. After his initial moaning about lack of game time, Kanie Felix has become an important part of the team down the right wing. He has scored thirteen of his own goals and contributed seven assists. I know the number of assists isn’t the biggest number maybe you would expect more from a winger, but the assists did come at important times more than not.

On the other wing Caine Winfarrah did just as good a job. He contributed nine goals which was slightly disappointing but fifteen assists was a brilliant return from a player who has shown he can play at this level despite not having the best attributes. Unfortunately the lads’ attributes aren’t increasing like I would hope but the training facilities are poor and so are the staff delivering the training, myself included. The board of directors are being stubborn and not allowing me to employ anymore staff as they are projecting us to slip into a negative bank balance in the future. Even if I could employ more staff I wouldn’t be able to sign backroom staff that could contribute anything in the way of decent attributes. This will stutter the players’ development but it is simply out of my hands.

Overall I am pleased with our final position and I do think we have the potential to go one step further next season. I think the automatic promotion spot and league title may be a bit out of our reach but with some new additions (if the board allows me) then we can grab a play-off spot. Bring on season three with Boston United! Up The Pilgrims!

Player of the Season – Dayle Southwell

I think you have had an awesome season, shame about the playoffs but you kno, you win some and you lose some. You will come back stronger next season but great result against Whitehawk!

Your updates are great and surely you will have a story of the month nomination this time round
Great update again, you really upset the odds with such a strong year!! Next year you'll reach the playoffs or even win promotion, I'm sure of it :D
Seriously well done on such a high league position, you might be a little disappointed with certain periods of the season, but surely the board were hoping for little more than avoiding relegation? You've surpassed expectations and next season, with a couple of additions perhaps, those play-off spots look very close indeed.

The season has gone very well and I think just that one diabolical month has let us down at the end of it all. Thanks for your continued support.

Thanks Neal. We have definitely overachieved and upset the league a bit with some of our performances. It will be a steep challenge to do as well as this season again in the next. Thanks for your continued support.

Thanks very much. I am a tad disappointed but that one month let us down big time so the final league positions are a fair reflection. Thanks for your continued support.

Preseason and Transfer News

In the past I have taken control of preseason as I have wanted to give certain players a run out and I feel watching the game gives me a clearer insight to how the tactics are working and what we need to improve on in training. However, this time around I am fired up for the upcoming season so wanted to get the friendly matches out of the way; I took the decision to let me assistant manager take control of the games. My assistant manager has appalling attributes and this was reflected in the team’s performances during preseason. I will take credit for the 5-1 win against Hendon but the games after that are all down to the assistant manager. I have to admit that I am disappointed with the team’s performances during what can be an important time. The assistant manager did use my tactics which reflects badly on me as we couldn’t dispatch of teams well below us in the league system. The only benefit we have gained from the friendly games was to give the new players an opportunity to gel with their new team mates and for some players to prove themselves before the league season started.

It is harsh of me to say that I am far from disappointed that a number of these players have left the club and think we are better for them leaving? The only discontent I have in regards to the players leaving the club is that Stefan Gallinski thought he was above the club and that his future lied in higher league football. You can imagine my annoyance when he decided to join Dolcan Zabki, who if you haven’t heard of, play in the top division of Polish football. I am in no way discrediting that league but I felt he could have done well for us if he had stayed. He could definitely have been one of the players who could have guided the club to the top leagues of English football. Unfortunately there was no convincing him to stay and he has moved on to a new venture.

I felt at times last season we lacked a bit of quality in defence and possibly a bit of experience too. It is our downfall in the latter stages of matches that concerns me the most. If we are to push for promotion this coming season, we need to be getting ahead in games and seeing them out without leaking goal after goal. Luke Graham has been brought in to add some experience to the club. He is a player who has always plied his trade in the lower leagues, with his biggest success being early in his career where he was part of the Northampton Town squad in League 2. Unfortunately he never played for them but since has played for teams like Mansfield, York, Luton and most recently, Alfreton. I am quite pleased with the signing of him on a free transfer but he will have to work hard to dislodge the partnership of Piergianni and Garner; but maybe this is what needs to happen?

With the departure of the ever disappointing Aaron Myles, Liam Gooch has been brought in as the only player we have paid a fee for. He is a very young keeper that I think will do much better than Myles did when he is called upon. He will however have to fit in straight away as regular starter Matthew Gledhill is ruled out for the first couple of games with injury. He does have some good attributes but I can see him becoming disgruntled about the lack of game time when Gledhill returns. However, I will stick with him if he makes a good start and it will be down to Gledhill to force his way back into the side.

Aaron Wint is a player I am familiar with but I can’t put my finger on where from. It is
definitely from a previous FM game and when looking at his player history, I have never managed any of the teams mentioned. I am guessing he must have been transferred to a club that I took over from. He always did quite well despite not possessing the best attributes in the world. He does have youth on his side and the opportunity to learn from either Southwell or Newsham in the future. I will give you a little insight to a future update and tell you he did score on his debut. He is a player for the future but I think we will amount to very little due to poor training facilities and coaches; it is a shame really but there is nothing I can do!
Do you feel you may be lacking squad depth with letting all them players go? :)
