Futre Discusses Current Injury Crisis

Quintero has been a star so far, now he is another star on the injury list

FC Porto started the season well (despite the O Classico) but it is going to be very hard from this point on, as the injury list has peaked at no less than 6 crucial first team players.

What makes it even worse for Futre, is that the players are not just spread out over many different positions. They are almost all exclusively attacking players. Jackson Martinez, Vincent Aboubakar and Adrian are all injured at striker, leaving Futre no options that have played a professional game before. Quaresma has been given the nod to play striker however after he played 60 minutes in their most recent game there, scoring in that time.

Quaresma, Brahimi and Oliver Torres are all injured in the CAM role, a role that Futre has signified as the most important in his tactics, leaving the likes of Will Hughes to have to step up and play there.
This will be the first test of Paulo Futre as a manager to see what he can do to overcome this problem and potentially test some new tactics along the way. I would be very interested in seeing the likes of Quaresma playing striker and potentially Cristian Tello playing in the CAM position, it could prove very unpredictable for some sides.
Hopefully you manage to work through this, Benfica are doing well in the league so any slip ups and you could find yourself lagging even further behind
Good luck mates.

How do Porto create chances without Quintero?

The creative mastermind of FC Porto at the moment is injured, where to next?

Quintero, 4 games, 9 assists. Not long after playing a good ball over the top in the recent Porto win to Aboubakar who scored, Quintero goes down like he was shot. Clutching his hamstring. Fans hold their breath to see it he will be okay, Quintero has to be stretchered off the field and first signs are not good.

Quintero Out 2 Months

This headline was the worst thing that fans could have seen after that game. Despite winning, there was a sense of loss that came with it, he (Quintero) had been in such creative form that he was unstoppable on the ball, his dribbling was beautiful and his passing was never miss placed. He was also the last standing FC Porto attacking playmaker, after seeing Oliver Torres and Brahimi fall before him, he was the last hope of the fans and arguably the best on the field.

Where to Next?

The answer to that question could mean the next two months are really strong for Porto and they continue to push for that top place come the end of the season or they will role over and struggle to score goals and leave the defence to sort everything out. Cristian Tello is the man that I highlighted to play the role, he may not have history there but I believe he is the closest player to Quintero. He is very fast with terrific dribbling, he arguably is a better shooter and his passing has flashes of brilliance. Other options are the more structured Will Hughes, who lacks creativity and dribbling or the real hidden gem in Quaresma, but I believe he will be needed in a more important role of striker while Aboubakar and Martinez are out.

Taca de Portugal 3rd Round Draw

The draw for Portugal's premier club competition, the Taca de Portugal, has been released with the 3rd Round seeing the entry of Primeira Liga clubs. 5 non-league clubs have also progressed to this stage and all 64 clubs will be aspiring to reach new heights in this year's competition. Here's the full draw.

Current holders SL Benfica have been given an easy draw to begin their campaign, set to host Louletano at home whilst their fierce rivals FC Porto have been given a far harder task, travelling to face Primeira Liga rivals Maritimo. That clash is one of 4 all-Liga ZON Sagres games, alongside Braga vs Academica, Estoril vs Pacos Ferreira and Belenenses vs Arouca, which should make some interesting viewing in these early stages.

All 32 games will be played over the weekend of 19th and 20th October.
Funny when you lose

Player of the Month

Jonathan Rodriguez

In a lacklustre month, the award had to go to young Uruguayan striker Jonathan Rodriguez who put on one of the best attacking shows I've seen in a while. Given a chance up front against Louletano, the Penarol loanee bagged 10 goals and finished with a perfect match rating. That performance earns him the award, and has also made me consider his role within the squad.

October was a frustrating month, inconsistent to the core, with some horrid results and one absolutely terrific result. I'll focus on the negative first - the 3-2 loss, at home, to Gil Vicente was unacceptable. We'll need to improve on complacency for these games because to win the title, we can't lose them. Meanwhile we were no match for Man City in England, putting us further down in the UCL table. In the positive, we recorded a predictable win over Estoril and then, the biggest highlight of the month and possibly the season, a monumental 12-1 win over Louletano in the cup. Jonathan Rodriguez had a blinder, scoring 6 goals, and putting Jonas' spot under risk. However, overall, improvement is needed.
"Funny when you lose"

Do You Want The Good News....Or The Bad News?

I guess we'll go good news first... We won SOTM! Technically we shared it with Tallery (fair game Tal) but we'll take it anyway! Thanks to everyone who's read the story, stuck with it in times of inactivity, and voted for us! First nomination, first win, not too shabby I think.

BUT.

Big but.

In true fashion, literally as I went to take the poll down, I managed to save a game over the dual story save. Instantly gone, without me even noticing. Now I know what you're thinking (Feliks, you are a knob!) but don't worry! We shall be back for more glory! Here's Xander with a few words.

Just following with what Feliks has said and I personally would like to say thank you to anyone who has read our story, every person who reads it and enjoys it only motivates us to continue writing. Thanks also to everyone who voted for us for the SOTM, it means heaps to know that you all think we are as good as some of the elite stories on this site. To those who are upset that Feliks is such a knob and doesn't backup, dont be mad, we will be back stronger then ever with a new story.

Cheers Guys, Xander

So, we will be back in the coming days with another story! The Great Divide spirit will never die, and until next time, stay classy FM Scout.
