It had to be as this is from the start of the season perspective.

Nervy win in Mancini's first game

There was some sort of party atmosphere at Villa Park as Roberto Mancini took to a dugout in the Premier League for the first time since April 2013. But his Manchester side played as though they were still on holiday for most of it, failing to take control of the game.

It started brightly with Sergio Aguero and David Silva combining well to force and early save from Villains stopper Brad Guzan. Then the Argentine striker had a golden opportunity when he rounded the American but was forced to shoot from an impossibly tight angle by Ron Vlaar, smashing the side netting.

City got their deserved breakthrough after just over thirty minutes of play. City found their breakthrough after twenty eight minutes, new recruit Fernando feined a shot to play through Pablo Zabaleta and the Right Back made no mistake, hitting a powerful, well placed shot into the near post of the American.

Then the sloppy passes started again, Gabby Agbonlahor and Andi Weimann were started to put pressure on Vincent Kompany and his defence. And just before the break Andi Weimann fizzed in a low cross

City had to goals incredibly disallowed in the Second Half, Sergio Aguero and Second Half substitute Wilfried Bony. The City strike partnership were not to be denied a third time though, Aguero played a sumptuous through pass to Raheem Sterling, who crossed a sensational ball which seemed to hang in the air for eternity. Before the Ivorian Bony met it with a powerful header into the roof of the the net. Better late than never and City fans were clearly delighted with Bony's impact.

After the game both managers offered their thoughts on the game.

'We did not play well but we show quality towards the game's end, we show fight and character, the team showed why they are champion.'

'We were unlucky not to come away with something, but anything can happen in football. We gotta take heart from this and know we pushed one of the best clubs in the world a long way today.'

Wilfried Bony also talked about his goal after the match.

'It's great to get off the mark so quickly, Sergio is a great partner and the cross from Raheem was great. We can all make a great team and win many titles here.'

August; Mixed views

August has been a mixed month for us, we should have beaten both Aston Villa and Newcastle easily but squandered many chances and just about managed to scrape victories. Against QPR we really clicked into gear and honestly the 4-2 scoreline flattered them. The defensive positioning has not been great and Martin Demichelis, Eliaquim Mangala or Marquinhos are going to have to step it up.


You already know the score for this game so I won't divulge into it too much, new boy Wilfried Bony headed in an 86th minute winner after some heavy probing from us, a game we should have won easily.


Another match which should have been a cricket score, and perhaps it would have been had Martin Demichelis been sent his marching orders after just fourty three minutes of play. We started of brightly enough, new signing Fernando getting on the score sheet with a powerful effort following some amazing pass and move football. Just three minutes after Demichelis was sent off Ayoze Perez squirmed through our defence to slot home. We struggled in the second fourty five, as we had against Villa, and only Samir Nasri's goal thirteen minutes from the end gave us the win, Sergio Aguero and Jesus Navas picked apart a visibly tiring Newcastle team before the Frenchman finished from a tight angle at the back post.


Easily our best performance this month, a 4-2 romp at Loftus Road. A 2nd minute goal from Samir Nasri and a double in two minutes from Sergio Aguero gave us a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break, but just three minutes into the second half, Juventus loanee Mauricio Isla pulled on back for the hosts, side footing the ball into the net on the volley. With just five minutes of play left former QPR youngster and new signing Raheem Sterling restored our three goal cushion, after a Bony backheel he steered the ball into the top right corner of the goal. A contentious penalty scored by Niko Kranjcar salvaged a little pride for the R's but we got our deserved victory, still it would have been nice to keep a clean sheet this month.

'This has been a okay month but we must be more ruthless and defend better, with concentration. Third in the league is not bad but we are still aiming to be top by the end of it'

League Table

3rd place is not bad, especially considering we have not played at all anyway near our best football before the QPR match. Up next in September we have some tricky fixtures against Everton and Arsenal, our UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE campaign kicks off against CSKA Moscow and we play Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup 3rd round, and it ends with the visit of newly promoted Burnley.

Despite a quite game against Aston Villa Samir Nasri exploded into life against Newcastle and was outstanding against QPR, with two brilliant goals and an average rating of 7.30 he could prove a pivotal figure in the trophy hunt this season.

Biggest Spenders

Unsurprisingly the biggest spenders this window were Chelsea and Manchester City.


The Citizens spent £78,500,000 on new talent, the most on young Argentine Forward Paulo Dybala coming in for a £36,000,000 outlay

They did make back £47,000,000 in player sales, Edin Dzeko commanding the highest fee leaving for Liverpool in a £28,5000,000 transfer.

Chelsea spent £45,000,000 with Jose Mourinho opting to improve the depth in his squad and combat his ageing defence with moves for young Valencia Left Back Jose Gaya and Cruizerio's Brazilian Centre Back Dede.

In terms of players exiting Stamford Bridge Andreas Christensen was the only man to depart. He will be on loan Ajax Amsterdam until the end of the season.

Biggest Transfer fee paid

The biggest transfer fee paid out was to Palermo from Manchester City for the services of Paulo Dybala for £36,000,000 coming a close second was Marco Reus' move to the blue side of the same city. He cost £30,000,000 to bring in from Borussia Dortmund and coming in third was Edin Dzeko's move to Liverpool for £28,500,000.

There are three main contenders for this award:

Manchester United's Wesley Sneijder, signed for £4,600,000 from Galatasary.

Manchester City's Marquinhos, signed for £3,500,000 from Paris Saint Germain.

Southampton's Alex Maxim, signed for £2,200,000 from Stuttgart.


All great deals but we have to go for Southampton's Maxim as he will bring so much to the Saints attack and will fill the gap the departure of Adam Lallana created easily.
