Brøndby IF - October Results

Craig Bellamy took charge of Brøndby for his first full month in football management. The team played two Superliga matches against Randers and Vestsjælland and one DBU Pokalen match against lowly Måløv.

Brøndby kicked off the month with a home tie against Randers FC. Having won their first game under Craig Bellamy last month, they were determined to keep their record going and improve their season and were able to midway through the first half when Danish winger Tobias Mikkelsen drifted in at the far post to tap Alexander Szymanowski's inviting cross into the net from close range.
Brøndby were on top for the majority of the game and had the chance to extend their lead after referee Jørgen Nielsen rather controversially pointed to the spot after Dario Dumić appeared to dive but Szymanowski's penalty was blazed well over the bar. Some late pressure was applied by Randers but Brøndby were strong defensively despite the absence of star player and captain Daniel Agger and managed to get the three points.

Looking to keep up their 100% record under Craig Bellamy, Brøndby hosted FC Vestsjælland. The game earlier in the season when Thomas Frank was in charge resulted in a 2-1 victory for Vestsjælland but Brøndby netted the first goal of the game just before the half time whistle when Elba Rashani's cross found Andrew Hjulsager who powered his header into the corner of the net to give his side the lead.
Once again Brøndby were dominant and extended their lead in second half stoppage time when a scramble in the penalty area resulted in former Everton man Apostolos Vellios putting the ball into his own net to secure the win for Brøndby as they continued their unbeaten run under Bellamy; this was also their third league game under him in which they hadn't conceded a goal. Daniel Agger made an unexpected return from injury in this game, the physio clearly doing a good job in dealing with the captain's groin strain.

As the scoreline suggests, Brøndby absolutely dominated this cup tie. Johan Elmander was the real hero but the team played fantastically together and Simone Pepe came off of the bench at half time to make his debut, assisting Elmander in one of his goals in the process. An emphatic win for the team and an important game for Elmander; prior to the match he had scored no goals in all competitions.
Brøndby have been drawn against strugglers FC Nordsjælland in the 4th round of the competition.
