Superliga: Final Day - Silkeborg IF vs Brøndby IF

Mascot Park is ready for an important day of football with Brøndby hoping to keep their 4th place spot.

Silkeborg IF XI vs Brøndby

(4-5-1)Jensen; Putros, Holst, Jakobsen, Jónsson; Flinta, Scheel, Hansen (C), Pedersen, Ritter; Beck.

Subs: Nørgaard, Friis, Sørensen, Illum, Agger, Pedersen, Køhlert.

Brøndby IF XI vs Silkeborg

(4-2-3-1)Hrádecký; Larsson, Holst, Albrechtsen, da Silva; Ørnskov (C), Phiri; Pepe, Hjulsager, Szymanowski; Pukki.

Subs: Falkesgaard, Laursen, Hasani, Núñez, Nørgaard, Rashani, Friðjónsson.

Brøndby were without captain and star centre back Daniel Agger for this vital game so Albrechtsen stepped in. Teko Modise also missed the game through injury.

John Nielsen officiated this crucial game. Brøndby kicked off the game knowing that failure to pick up maximum points from the game could see them lose their continental qualification spot to either Esbjerg or OB. With this in mind, in-form striker Teemu Pukki surged past three defenders with the ball at his feet after five minutes but his shot was weak and didn't challenge the goalkeeper.

Some Brøndby fans couldn't help but celebrate when OB went two goals behind at home to already relegated Nordsjælland and Esbjerg trailed by one goal to SønderjyskE.

But they weren't celebrating for long when Silkeborg captain Frank Hansen crossed the ball into the box from a free-kick on the edge of the area. The ball somehow evaded all of the Brøndby players and found the head of Dennis Flinta who headed the ball into the roof of the net just before the half hour mark.

While results elsewhere meant that Brøndby kept fourth spot for the time being, they couldn't rest easy yet, especially since OB had pulled one goal back against Nordsjælland.

Former Italy international Simone Pepe was left visibly frustrated when he was denied in superb fashion by Kasper Jensen as he made three saves in quick succession to keep his side in the lead. Pedersen tried his hardest to double the lead from range, and almost succeeded, putting the ball over the bar from 30 yards out.

Brøndby went into half time with hope when Esbjerg went further behind to SønderjyskE. The players came back out after the half time break but there were no real chances until midway through the second half, although SønderjyskE's Marvin Pourié, on loan from F.C. København, completed his hat-trick to consign Esbjerg to defeat. The final score in that game would be 4-1, Pourié adding a fourth before Esbjerg pulled one back. Meanwhile OB still trailed by one goal to Nordsjælland.

Back in the Silkeborg game, Brøndby striker Teemu Pukki, often so reliable in front of goal, missed the chance to get his team on level terms with a sitter. Some good work and a fine run from Pepe got him into the Silkeborg penalty area. A tackle from a defender let the ball slide through to the Finnish striker, who put the ball straight into the arms of the goalkeeper from just yards out. His hands quickly went to his head as he punched the air in anger. Rather ironically, the Fin couldn't finish.

He tried to redeem himself in the last five minutes of the game by playing a very inviting through ball to find the run of Pepe into the box. However, the Italian winger was selfish and was clearly envisioning his name on the back of the Danish papers the next morning as he opted to shoot from an impossible angle rather than cross to his two team-mates inside the box.

The game finished 1-0 to Silkeborg and Brøndby fans waited in fear as the last minutes of the OB - Nordsjælland played out. Despite the result here, Brøndby fans will be celebrating tonight as Nordsjælland held out OB to secure a 1-2 win - Brøndby take the last Europa League qualification spot ahead of Esbjerg and OB.

Nordsjelland relegated wow! You've done well to land in 4th after taking this team from dead last place, if the qualifiers don't go well you can always apply for another job amigo ;)

Bellamy: First Season Success?

Brøndby IF manager Craig Bellamy has told reporters that he considers his first season at his new club a success, despite a lack of trophies.

This being Bellamy's first job in management, many people didn't know what to expect from the Welshman. After taking over from Thomas Frank nine games into the Superliga season, he had a difficult job on his hands, with Brøndby sitting rock bottom of the table.

But 18 wins out of 29 propelled his team up the table and into a Europa League qualification spot by the time the season finished in June. Teemu Pukki and Daniel Agger were particularly impressive but Bellamy was praised by Danish pundits and football experts for his tactical nous.

Leading the team to wins over FC Midtjylland and FC København was no easy feat so Bellamy will be rightly proud of what he and his team have accomplished over the last year.

A solid cup run in the DBU Pokalen went alongside this as an added boost to Brøndby fans as the team reached the Semi Final before being narrowly defeated on aggregate by København who went on to win the cup.

With the success of this season, it doesn't look like Bellamy is on the move any time soon.

"I'm absolutely delighted that we were able to turn our fortunes around. At a few points in the season, there was talk about me losing my job and I must say I was shocked. We did have a few disappointing losses but ultimately we rose up the table incredibly and secured our place in Europe next season.

And I'm definitely going to be here for that. I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given here, and I'm determined to improve the squad next season and I hope I can continue to do well here."
Couldn't agree more with Bellamy, looks like you're enjoying your time with brondby, despite all the hardships :P

Brøndby's Next Top Star

At the end of each season, the club website will now hold an interview with what we consider to be the brightest young talent to have come into the club earlier on in the season.

This year that talent is 15-year-old Allan Gregersen, who hails from Kalundborg. Brøndby are Gregersen's first professional club, and he is delighted to have signed a youth contract with our team.

PROFILE

ATTRIBUTES

Q. Allan, why was it you chose to attend trials for Brøndby ahead of any other Danish team?

A. I've been a very impressed follower of them this season. Craig is like a breath of fresh air at the club. It was quite a miraculous turnaround for them this season and to work under a manager capable of that was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Q. We understand you've already formed a close bond with some of the staff here?

A. Yes, all of them have been very supportive to me but a few have stood out and have gone out of their way to help me fit in here.

Q. Do you think you can go all the way to the top of the game?

A. With enough hard work, I think anyone can. So, yes I do think I can, and I do have ambition, but right now I've been blessed with an opportunity at this football club and I hope to grab it with both hands.

Q. And finally, do any of your new team-mates stand out from the rest to you?

A. Well, all of the lads that came through at the same time as me are talented. I think it'd be unfair of me to single people out as better than others but if I had to choose a top player in the academy, I'd choose Allan Schmitd.
I'm going to try and use my FM scouting experience to foretell this young youths potential...

Best stat could turn out to be acceleration, therefore above 18? Technically let's hope his passing increases past 12-14... His technique will definetly reach past 16. (a good technical midfielder therefore, best set to attacking support), don't worry about the mentals; they generally reach peak after 26 years of age.

approved! :) nice update btw.

Two big names join Brøndby in preparation for new season

Brøndby IF have announced two big name signings to boost their team ahead of the new season. Former Arsenal stars Kolo Toure and Tomas Rosicky have both put pen to paper as they hope they can improve the quality of the squad.

More signings are expected but with most of the budget being spent on the two big names, it is unlikely that Bellamy will be able to bring in anymore high caliber players.

Both players join on free transfers, with Toure's contract at Liverpool having expired and Rosicky being released by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Bellamy played with Toure at Manchester City and the Ivory Coast international later went on to have a spell at another of Bellamy's former clubs Liverpool. His first season at Anfield saw him and his team narrowly miss out on winning their first ever Premier League title to his former club Manchester City but Brendan Rodgers took the decision to transfer list the brother of City star Yaya Toure at the start of the season and he went on to play just one game over the course of the season.

Toure also played alongside current Brøndby captain Daniel Agger at Liverpool and considers him one of the "greatest professionals" he has ever played with.

"Daniel and I only played together at Liverpool for one season but in that time, he was always so focused on doing what was best for the team. I am excited to be partnering him in defence here at Brøndby because I didn't really get to play with him all that much during matches at Liverpool. I hope that I can impress here and repay Brøndby's faith in me."

Also joining on a free is former Arsenal player Tomas Rosicky. The Czech Republic international has won 95 caps for his nation and Arsenal fans were disappointed when Wenger decided to let Rosicky leave the club following the expiration of his contract at the London club. Although he played just once for The Gunners last season, fans have taken the midfielder into their hearts and will be saddened by his departure.

Rosicky joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund for £8m and spent a number of years at the club, but injuries often disrupted his playing time under Wenger.

Additions to the squad meant that he was frozen out even more and it shouldn't be a huge shock that he wanted to find a new club where he could get more game time.
Huge signings for Brondby! you can definetly play it on par with the likes of Kobenhaven now...

not to mention the comedy factor that Kolo brings to the story ;)
