Mundo Deportivo Exclusive: Guti will manage CD Arrecife

We already know who Arrecife’s chairman will be, now we also know who the manager will be.

ARRECIFE - The first details about the to-be-formed Lanzarote football club, CD Arrecife, are slowly leaking out. After already finding out that the chairman will be successful English entrepreneur Thomas Allery, we now know who the manager will be. After much speculation, and many names being suggested, the first ever CD Arrecife manager appears to be Guti. Although it’s not official yet, the following leaked picture gives us proof that the new manager will be the legendary Spanish assist king, Guti:

“Technical error. Will Guti be the first manager of Arrecife??”

Carlos Herrera was the one who sent this picture on Twitter. He’s a janitor at the press centre, where later this week, a press conference about CD Arrecife will be held. But, the IT-crew accidentally displayed the picture shown above. Herrera took the chance, and quickly photographed the screen. The screen displays the words “Welcome Guti, our club’s first manager.”

This picture quickly took over Spanish social media, and many people will be wondering which big names will be coming in over the next weeks. Many suggest that the Allery’s money and his ambitious plans with CD Arrecife, have persuaded Guti to join Arrecife, rather than waiting for a bigger club to come around and offer him a contract. Allery has already vowed he will pump a lot of cash into the club, so it’s most likely the salary that persuaded Guti to join the Lanzarote side.

Not much is known about this new club, but the signing of Guti as the club’s manager is a very good start. In the coming weeks, the club will release their kits, and the club will, together with Guti, form a backroom staff and get a team together. The 38-year-old is a well-known name for people all over the world. He was a central midfielder, who played for Real Madrid for almost his entire career, making over 500 appearances for Los Galacticos. One year after leaving Real Madrid, he hung up his boots, after 23 appearances for Turkish club Beşiktaş. Guti was famous for his unselfish style of play, and gave in the region of seventy assists in his career. He scored around ninety goals.

Currently, the Madrid-born Guti is unemployed, after failing to find a job in management after ending his career. This means that he will have to obtain his manager’s license. For the lower leagues this won’t be a big problem, though. After this leaked picture, our staff tried to contact people involved in the club to get a confirmation on this news. We managed to get Thomas Allery’s reaction on the leak: “I can’t confirm yet that Guti will be CD Arrecife’s manager. All I can say is that in the coming days we will organise a press conference, and in this conference, we will announce many new details about the club. ”

When we tried contacting the man linked to the job himself, Guti, he didn’t want to answer any of our questions, and said that he “hasn’t signed a contract anywhere. I’m open to every job that gets offered to me, but I haven’t signed a contract anywhere.”
Although Allery and Guti haven’t confirmed anything yet, it’s only a matter of time before this announcement will be made official. The signing of Guti leaves us all wondering: what can we expect in the coming weeks? Will there be more spectacular signings, or will this be all? We at Mundo will keep you updated on the headlines from the tropical island.¬
