Red Devils Push on In January as Rooney fails to find new Club

Gamiero arrived at Old Trafford on loan until the end of the season, but Rooney has failed to find a new club

In a month which had both highs and lows, we welcomed some new faces to the club: Hirving Lozano arrived from Pachuca for around £4m, and Sevilla's Kevin Gamiero arrived in a loan deal until the end of the season. Gamiero's arrival was intended to provide cover for Wayne Rooney, but a straight Red Card for a stupid tackle against Chelsea saw interest in him dwindle, and he will remain a Manchester United player for now.

With the FA Cup starting our year, we progressed to the 5th round with relative ease, where we will play either Sheffield Wednesday or Newcastle. A tight first leg tie against Manchester City gave us hope of progressing in the Capital One Cup, but we were undone at the Etihad, and it was City who progressed to the final.

In the league, we played just two games, with a win against Arsenal preceding a heavy 5-2 defeat to Liverpool - our league form is quite concerning, leaving us second, two points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.

Player of the Month: Michael Carrick

Mr Dependable in midfield, Carrick has been a huge influence this month, pulling the team together when we needed it the most - it's telling that the two games Michael didn't start, we lost (Against Liverpool and City)

Injury List

Rafael - Virus (2-3 Days)
Adnan Januzaj - Fractured Ribs (3-4 Weeks)
As a United fan i'm really enjoying this :) Unlucky January but good to see van Persie still banging in the goals! Anyone in the U21/U18's your looking to bring through to the first team?

Wilson Shines in Rocky Month for United

Youngster Wilson has been outstanding in a month where United Struggled

Overall, it was a mixed month for the squad, but a vague consistency in the league has kept us close to the top of the table, and in a strong position as we head towards the end of the season. It was disappointing to crash out of the FA Cup against opposition who we should really be beating, but it allows us to focus on the larger competitions - the league and Champions League.

van Persie was the man of the moment, leading from the front this month

Three league wins from 3 league games, and a convincing home win the Champions League kept our hopes of a league and European double alive heading into the last stretch of the season. Robin van Persie was our man of the moment, leading by example and leading the line in style.

With the club out of both the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup; the Champions League is our last chance at a Cup title, while the race to be crowned Champions of England remains tight, with only Chelsea ahead of us.

United Extend Unbeaten Run Ahead of Madrid Clash

French Midfielder Pogba has hit a rich Vein of form ahead of his team's trip to Spain

Having fought through a tough clash against CSKA Moscow, United have started April with two storming victories, against West Brom and Newcastle, with the full knowledge that a daunting Quarter Final tie against Spanish giants Real Madrid comes next on the agenda, with the away tie to the Bernabeu in just 4 days.

The two premier league ties have shown to be great preparation for one of the biggest ties Roy Keane has faced as a manager, with United running out 4-1 winners against West Brom in a high-paced, strong performance. Midfielder Pogba ran the show, putting in a man of the match performance with two goals and two assists to his name, with Luke Shaw and Robin van Persie converting the other two goals.

With Pogba rested for the game against Newcastle, Argentine Angel Di Maria stepped up, scoring twice to give United a 2-0 lead, with Robin van Persie adding the 3rd before Ayoze Perez netted a late consolation for Newcastle.

Speaking ahead of the away game in Madrid, manager Roy Keane looked favourably at his side's recent run of results, as they extend their unbeaten run to 5 league games.
"I think we have to be positive going into this game - we've won 5 on the trot now in the league, and looked really sharp in training - our biggest goal has to be to get a goal on the board to give us an edge. We're not expecting to go into this tie and score 3 or 4, but we have to be positive, and get stuck in to madrid to disrupt their game plan as much as possible."

Will that plan work? Madrid are on a long winning streak of their own, and are at the top of their game: Keane will have to get the best out of his side if United are to progress any further in this competition.
Ooh, I see you got Pogba back. "If you love someone, let them go. If they really love you, they'll come back, but it's gonna cost you."

Real Madrid will be a tough matchup, but you can do it.

Real Madrid might be a stretch but I've seen things in this game which makes me say I won't put a victory past you. Good luck, keep this up! Lovin' it...Somehow ;)

United Struggle Against High-Flying Madrid

http://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1400004/gareth-bale.jpg
Former Spurs Man Bale Scored 3 Times to Pile on the Misery for United Fans

Almost 80,000 people packed into the Bernabeu to watch two European Heavyweights kick off their campaign to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, in what promised to be an entertaining match. United manager Roy Keane had spoken before the game about his desire to see his side push Madrid to the limit, but after just 20 minutes, Gareth Bale had taken the wind out of those sails with a long-range shot which beat de Gea with a wicked curve.

Before United could catch their breath, Bale once again got the beating of the defence, slotting home cooly to make it 2-0 after just half an hour. It was starting to look like a wasted trip for United fans, as their team struggled to collect themselves in the face of Bale's pace and trickery, as he once again tore the defence apart to make it 3-0 before half time.

Former Madrid man Di Maria was introduced at half-time to bring some bite to the United Attack

With United struggling, Keane switched his tactics around, introducing Angel di Maria and James Wilson to his attack, and spreading his attack wider across the pitch. Within minutes though, it all seemed to be to no avail, as Cristiano Ronaldo broke down the left flank, leaving Rafael totally flat footed, and lifted the ball into the back of the net - it was 4-0, and seemingly no way back for United.

di Maria though, was having none of that, and he displayed some of the guile and trickery which drew united to him in the first place, beating two defenders to break through on goal, drawing Casillas out of his goalmouth before lifting the ball over him to net an away goal for his side, and bring a glimmer of hope to the tie.

di Maria's fellow substitute, James Wilson, also won himself some affection from the United fans, latching onto a long ball from Paul Pogba, Wilson turned sharply, firing home with a first time volley to bring the score to a slightly more respectable 4-2, and with two away goals, and a home tie still to come, United's situation looked a lot more promising than it had at half time.

The rest of the game was full of fast, attacking play, but neither side could find the back of the net, and as the final whistle blew, it was Gareth Bale who drew the loudest cheer, his Man of the Match performance gave Madrid the edge going into the second leg in Manchester
G'warn Gareth! Oh sorry, unlucky.. :P

United Battle Back Against Madrid

James Wilson celebrates United's second goal in front of the home fans

With Real Madrid leading 4-2 after the game at the Bernabeu, United fans packed into Old Trafford in droves to watch their heroes battle for a place in the Semi Finals - Two goals without reply would put them in the driving seat, and Keane set out an attacking stall, with the starting XI featuring Januzaj, Wilson, di Maria and Juan Mata, alongside attacking stalwart van Persie leading the line.

Madrid kicked off, and swarmed forwards with solid attacking play, Gareth Bale once again proving to be thorn in the Liverpool defence's side with his direct pace and skill while dribbling. Unlike in Spain, Keane spotted the danger quickly, and right back Matteo Darmian was immediately charged with keeping the Welsh winger in his pocket, and the Italian rose to the challenge quickly and superbly, and Bale's threat dropped off.

With one of their biggest threats kept quiet, Madrid seemed toothless - Ronaldo couldn't get the service he usually enjoys, and United had the time to build attacks from the middle of the pitch. After ten minutes, Keane's side were looking the more likely to make something happen, and it was Juan Mata who made the first break, slipping clear of Sergio Ramos' attentions in the box to power home a header from close range, and put United back in with a chance of qualification.

Madrid were rocked, and straight from kick-off, Pogba won the ball back deep in his own half, laying off a neat pass to Januzaj, who set off down the left wing before cutting inside, drawing Cassilas from his line, before squaring it to the onrushing James Wilson, who made no mistake, smashing the ball gleefully into the roof of the net, wheeling away to the United fans in celebration.

After that, United were cruising, and with the defence keeping Bale and Ronaldo quiet, Keane's side showed the grit and determination which has so often characterised their season to close the game out and seal a miraculous 2-0 win which sees them through to the semi-finals on away goals
Great to get past Madrid! Well done :D

United Keep Up Title Pressure In May

Youngster Januzaj remains optimistic of his side's title chances

With the end of the season drawing ever closer, United fans are still dreaming of the Premiership title; and with their club only just behind Chelsea in the league, that dream is not far from becoming a reality. The Champions League Semi-Finals will give these two clubs their last chance to square up against each other before the end of the season, and with three league games to play after that tie, the winner there could well hold the psychological advantage heading in to the deciding day.

We join the Race for the Title on May 2nd: United have made up their game-in hand, beating West Ham 4-1, and welcome Stoke to Old Trafford, while Chelsea travel to Swansea, both games 3pm kick-offs.

Manchester United v Stoke City

United kicked off, and straight away had the composure and assurance of a team very much in control of their own fate - the lead at the top of the table was slim, at just one point, but Angel Di Maria clearly had visions of it being much, much larger, as he tore through the Stoke defence after just 20 minutes, slotting the ball past Begovic and wheeling away in delight as it nestled in the back of the net.

From then on, this game was United's - Robin van Persie continued his rich vein of form, scoring on 31 minutes to double United's lead, and offer a 2 goal cushion at half-time.

In the second half, Stoke seemed to return to the pitch determined not to be walkovers, but when Ryan Shawcross hauled Januzaj down on the edge of the area, the teenager's freekick found Jones lurking in the area, and the defender cushioned a neat header into the Stoke goal from short range.

Shaw cross did redeem himself with a long-range freekick after 70 minutes, but a Leighton Baines penalty on 86 minutes sealed a victory for United, and carried their irresistible form on for another week.

Swansea City v Chelsea

Meanwhile, Chelsea were facing all kinds of problems against Swansea. A Goal-less first half in which Swansea seemed the more dangerous side set alarm bells ringing for Mourinho's men, and with the Portugese demanding a better second half, Chelsea took just five minutes to respond.

Diego Costa broke through the impressive Swansea defence after 50 minutes, turning on a sixpence after a Matic long ball, and his half-volley from just inside the area found its way to the top corner of the net, and probably onto the shortlist for goal of the season.

It was Matic and Costa, again, who combined for Chelsea's second goal, just one minute from time, as the Spaniard cushioned a header back across goal from a corner, and the Midfielder made no mistake, powering his header down into the ground, seeing it bounce inside the crossbar, and into the net. 2-0 Chelsea, and the title race continues with just a point separating the two sides.
