Manchester United: Restoring Glory to the Reds

As a United fan i'm really enjoying this Unlucky January but good to see van Persie still banging in the goals! Anyone in the U21/U18's your looking to bring through to the first team?

Three league wins from 3 league games, and a convincing home win the Champions League kept our hopes of a league and European double alive heading into the last stretch of the season. Robin van Persie was our man of the moment, leading by example and leading the line in style.

With the club out of both the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup; the Champions League is our last chance at a Cup title, while the race to be crowned Champions of England remains tight, with only Chelsea ahead of us.

Brilliant month there, keep it up!

Having fought through a tough clash against CSKA Moscow, United have started April with two storming victories, against West Brom and Newcastle, with the full knowledge that a daunting Quarter Final tie against Spanish giants Real Madrid comes next on the agenda, with the away tie to the Bernabeu in just 4 days.

The two premier league ties have shown to be great preparation for one of the biggest ties Roy Keane has faced as a manager, with United running out 4-1 winners against West Brom in a high-paced, strong performance. Midfielder Pogba ran the show, putting in a man of the match performance with two goals and two assists to his name, with Luke Shaw and Robin van Persie converting the other two goals.

With Pogba rested for the game against Newcastle, Argentine Angel Di Maria stepped up, scoring twice to give United a 2-0 lead, with Robin van Persie adding the 3rd before Ayoze Perez netted a late consolation for Newcastle.

Speaking ahead of the away game in Madrid, manager Roy Keane looked favourably at his side's recent run of results, as they extend their unbeaten run to 5 league games.
"I think we have to be positive going into this game - we've won 5 on the trot now in the league, and looked really sharp in training - our biggest goal has to be to get a goal on the board to give us an edge. We're not expecting to go into this tie and score 3 or 4, but we have to be positive, and get stuck in to madrid to disrupt their game plan as much as possible."

Will that plan work? Madrid are on a long winning streak of their own, and are at the top of their game: Keane will have to get the best out of his side if United are to progress any further in this competition.

Ooh, I see you got Pogba back. "If you love someone, let them go. If they really love you, they'll come back, but it's gonna cost you."

Real Madrid will be a tough matchup, but you can do it.

With the end of the season drawing ever closer, United fans are still dreaming of the Premiership title; and with their club only just behind Chelsea in the league, that dream is not far from becoming a reality. The Champions League Semi-Finals will give these two clubs their last chance to square up against each other before the end of the season, and with three league games to play after that tie, the winner there could well hold the psychological advantage heading in to the deciding day.

We join the Race for the Title on May 2nd: United have made up their game-in hand, beating West Ham 4-1, and welcome Stoke to Old Trafford, while Chelsea travel to Swansea, both games 3pm kick-offs.

United kicked off, and straight away had the composure and assurance of a team very much in control of their own fate - the lead at the top of the table was slim, at just one point, but Angel Di Maria clearly had visions of it being much, much larger, as he tore through the Stoke defence after just 20 minutes, slotting the ball past Begovic and wheeling away in delight as it nestled in the back of the net.

From then on, this game was United's - Robin van Persie continued his rich vein of form, scoring on 31 minutes to double United's lead, and offer a 2 goal cushion at half-time.

In the second half, Stoke seemed to return to the pitch determined not to be walkovers, but when Ryan Shawcross hauled Januzaj down on the edge of the area, the teenager's freekick found Jones lurking in the area, and the defender cushioned a neat header into the Stoke goal from short range.

Shaw cross did redeem himself with a long-range freekick after 70 minutes, but a Leighton Baines penalty on 86 minutes sealed a victory for United, and carried their irresistible form on for another week.



Meanwhile, Chelsea were facing all kinds of problems against Swansea. A Goal-less first half in which Swansea seemed the more dangerous side set alarm bells ringing for Mourinho's men, and with the Portugese demanding a better second half, Chelsea took just five minutes to respond.

Diego Costa broke through the impressive Swansea defence after 50 minutes, turning on a sixpence after a Matic long ball, and his half-volley from just inside the area found its way to the top corner of the net, and probably onto the shortlist for goal of the season.

It was Matic and Costa, again, who combined for Chelsea's second goal, just one minute from time, as the Spaniard cushioned a header back across goal from a corner, and the Midfielder made no mistake, powering his header down into the ground, seeing it bounce inside the crossbar, and into the net. 2-0 Chelsea, and the title race continues with just a point separating the two sides.
