Aston Villa needed penalties to eliminate Preston North End after an entertaining 2-2 draw after 120 minutes

An impressive Preston North End will feel hard done by after an uninspiring Aston Villa fought back from a goal down in 90 minutes to force extra time. Preston's Eoin Doyle sent Deepdale into ruptures on 60 minutes when he slotted past Brad Guzan.

Villa captain for the day Ciaran Clark headed home the equalizer on 82 minutes off a well worked corner forced extra time. Scott Sinclair thought he scored the winner in the first period of extra time with a delightful free-kick but it wasn't to be.

Preston deservedly drew level with just 10 minutes to go when Calum Woods scored from what presumably was a cross, which flew over Brad Guzan's head and into the back of the net.

Penalties then assusmed where Villa managed to come out on top 4-3, with both Bacuna and Agbonlahor having their penalties saved.

Remi Garde will find out who they will face in the next round of the Capital One Cup next week, however the fans know that performances must improve if they would like to progress further.[/img]

Classy Villa Overpower Sunderland

Jordan Ayew scored both Villa's goals against Sunderland

Aston Villa put in a polished performance against Sunderland as they recorded their first win of the season. Jordan Ayew bagged both goals.

In what was billed as an almost must win game so early in the season, The Villians dominated for the majority of the game, with Sunderland struggling to produce anything that troubled Brad Guzan throughout.

The first half was a drab encounter, with both teams feeling each other out.. Sunderland looked to play on the counter attack while a new look 4-3-3 Aston Villa kept possession and tried to find their opening, much to no avail.

It took just 4 minutes after the restart before Jordan Ayew cashed home on a horrible defensive error for Sunderland. The black cats had a spell of possession before John O'Shea looked to find Pantillimon in the Sunderland goal. However his back pass was left short and the pacey forward managed to sneak it before the Romanian and tapped it into an empty net.

Villa were now playing with confidence, and Sunderland were struggling to defend against the forward line of Agbonlahor, Gestede and Ayew.

The pressure would eventually tell as Ayew doubled his tally for the day. A surging Micah Richards run down the right set him up for a cross, and his low driven ball was met by Ayew at the back post to tap home for his 2nd.

The win was well deserved for the Villians and Remi Garde will be hoping that his side can build on his opening win, while Sam Allardyce will be going straight back to the drawing board to fix his sides lacklustre performance.

Ayew Hat-Trick Wins Thriller

Micah Richards celebrates after full time whistle

Jordan Ayew fired a hat-trick at Upton park to give Aston Villa their first away win of the season

Jordan Ayew put on a show tonight, continuing his form from the previous game against Sunderland. The Villa striker terrorised the hammers defence throughout the 90 minutes, bringing home the match ball at the end of the game.

Jordan Ayew struck twice in the first half to put Villa in a commanding position. His first coming in the opening 10 minutes, after receiving a ball from Ashley Westwood, a first time effort from 12 yards found Adrian flat footed, as the ball nestled into the corner.

On 21 minutes, a beautifully weighted pass by Rudy Gestede, put Ayew 1 on 1 with the keeper, with only one victor coming out as Ayew celebrated with the travelling fans.

However just like the earlier game against Manchester City, the Villians would throw away a two goal lead.

A powerful free kick from Mark Noble was parried by Guzan, but the onrushing Diafra Sakho was on hand to tap the rebound in. West Ham pushed on and equalized on 73 minutes, when Italian defender Ogbonna headed in a far post header from a corner to leave Villa struggling desperately.

West Ham looked to finish the game and a remarkable turnaround, but it would be through looking for a winner that they would not even come out with a point. After throwing a lot of midfielders forward for an attack, Villa broke with devastating pace. A 2 vs 1 ensued with both the dribbling Ayew and Gestede taking on a backtracking Cresswell.. Ayew went alone and stuck a powerful strike into the roof of the net to send the away fans into ruptures.

Ayew, becoming a bit of a fan favourite now will be looking to continue his form in Villa's next game against Spurs, whereas West Ham will look to bounce back against APOEL in the Europa League.

Kane grabs Spurs Winner

Harry Kane scores his 4th league goal of the season

Harry Kane scored the winner at White Hart Lane as Tottenham battled to a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

The game started well for Spurs, as man of the match Danny Rose found the back of the net with a well driven low shot on 19 minutes. The Englishman had found himself high up the pitch after linking well with Andros Townsend, with the winger supplying the assist.

Villa were on level terms 10 minutes later when a nice passing move found it's way to in form Jordan Ayew, who found the on rushing Gabby Agbonlahor who rounded Hugo Lloris before placing the ball into the empty net.

However it would be Spurs who would have the last laugh, with Harry Kane continuing his fine form from last season. The recently capped English striker had come close on 2 previous occasions, but managed to find the back of the net from close range on 50 minutes.

The defeat sees Villa drop to 15th, and ends their two game winning streak in the Premier League, while Spurs jump to 5th and lie 6 points off top spot. Next up for both teams will be Captial One Cup action, with the draw for the 3rd round taking place later today.

Manchester United have been given a home tie

Manchester United will host Aston Villa in the 3rd round of this years Captial One Cup

4 time winners Manchester United have been enduring barren years of recent times, and will be looking to add some silverware into their cabinet this year. There league form has been average at best this term, as they sit in 4th place.

Aston Villa have struggled in the Premier League this season, and had to overcome a scare in the previous round against Preston North End, relying on penalties to secure their passage through. Remi Garde must be thinking that everything is going against him, with Manchester United one of the competitions favourites.

Manchester United last won the competition in 2009, beating Aston Villa in the final.

Ayew Inspires Famous Villa Victory

Under fire boss Van Gaal leaves Old Trafford to a chorus of boos

Aston Villa knocked Manchester United out of the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford after a famous 3-2 win. Jordan Ayew scored his second hat-trick in the past 3 weeks.

Under fire boss Louis Van Gaal did little to relive the pressure on himself, as Manchester United crashed out of the Captial One Cup at the hands of a magnificant Aston Villa. The red devils left to an echo of boos from a growing number of frustrated home fans.

Jordan Ayew stole the headlines for his goals, but defender Micah Richards also played a pivitol role, bagging all 3 assists for the Ghanaian's goals.

It was Villa who came out of the block the quickest, and were on the scoresheet within 13 minutes. Richards, who was clearly instructed to get forward at all times, whipped in a magnificent cross to the backpost where Ayew rose above Shaw to head home.

Wonderkid Anthony Martial drew the homside level on 26 minutes, after a dazzling run saw him skip through 3 Villa defenders, before defty looping the ball over a helpless Guzan.

However Villa regained their lead before half time, as on 43 minutes a quick Villa counter saw Micah Richards weighted pass find Ayew,who fired low past De Gea to send the Villians into the break with a slender lead.

They would then double that lead on 55 minutes, when Richards decided to do exactly what worked for the first goal, and looped a ball to the back stick, where Ayew was on hand to nod in his second hat-trick in 3 games.

Manchester United did respond however when Martial scored his second 4 minutes later, but it was not enough as Remi Garde and his men marched towards the 4th round.

Time seem to be running out for Louis Van Gaal, at Old Trafford but the win for Villa will give boss Remi Garde a much needed boost as they look to improve their league form
