Dynamo Appoint Librarian As Head Coach
Dynamo Dresden Announced Their Appointment Of Unknown Librarian Christian Schäfer
26/06/2015
Dynamo Dresden have appointed unknown Christian Schäfer as their new manager. The former librarian was handed his new occupation just days after former manager Peter Németh had been relieved of his duties. The news comes as a shock, as many had expected Uwe Neuhaus to claim the role.
Born in Radeburg, just north of Dresden, Christian Schäfer is no stranger to the club's historic city. At the age of 34, Schäfer has no previous management experience at a professional, or even a senior, level. He was, however, a librarian. Schäfer did not play professional football in his younger years and while he had no qualifications beside his coaching license, managing director Robert Schäfer, Christian's namesake, firmly believed that Christian would be the most suitable candidate for the job, handing him a one-year contract where he will earn just under €5,000 per week.
In a press-conference earlier today, both Christian and Robert outlined their objectives for the upcoming season. The club would be expected to earn promotion from the third division, given the strength of its squad and the financial power at hand. The club struggled to cope in the Third Division last season following relegation from the Second Division the season before. Dynamo Dresden are among the favourites to achieve promotion, alongside SV Wehen Wiesbaden, FC Erzebirge Aue and Holstein Kiel.
Christian Schäfer spoke of his delight in being appointed manager, and promised to excite the fans with attractive and inventive football. He was quick to praise Robert Schäfer for making the decision to hire the inexperienced man, and promised to keep the fans satisfied during his tenure.

Christian Schäfer Spoke Of His Delight In Being Appointed Manager And Promised Success
Christian Schäfer:
"I would like to thank Robert (Schäfer) and the rest of the board for handing me this opportunity. I am very happy to be here now and I hope to be here for a long time, if you will have me. Dynamo has a very young squad of players with a lot of talent and with the right amount of work and patience, this team can earn promotion this season. It is important that we get the fans behind us qucikly, as the Dynamo fans are very well reputed in Germany, and we will look to do so by playing excitingly attractive and exquisitely inventive football. We have to earn their support, and we can do great things with it. To earn that support, we must work hard to be the best we can be, and that work starts now!"
