November Recap
1 December, 2016
The 2016/17 season just keeps getting better and better for manager Teemu Nieminen and his Red Devils. In the three matches of November his club went through them with relative ease. With winning all three matches and Europa FC dropping one Man 62 is now one point behind league leaders Lincoln Red Imps.
It was not all sunshine and happiness for the Red Devils as two players went down with major injuries and will be missing significant time away from the pitch. Both John-Paul Duarte and Jamie Coombes will be out for the next 5-6 months with achilles tendon injuries. We wish both players the best and hope for a speedy and painless recovery. See you on the pitch soon.
With only three matches Man 62 made the most of them. Starting off against newly promoted Gib Phoenix the Red Devils would win by a score of 2-0 thanks to an Anthony Hernandez goal and an own goal by one of their players. The next match saw fan favourites Estiven and Jeremy Lopez on the score sheet in a 3-1 victory over Lynx. Finally to close out November the club would defeat Lions by a 3-1 scoreline with goals by Michael Yome, Dimitris Skouloudakis and Jack Sergeant.
Also congratulations to manager Teemu Nieminen who has picked up his first Manager of the Month award for the season.
Player of the Month:
With an overall rating of 8.2 in the three matches winger Jeremy Lopez was by far the best player in November. Scoring two goals and adding an assist helped the Red Devils in this very important month. His leadership and hard work made the month very successful. In the two matches against Lynx and Lions he posted a 9.0 rating.
Managers Thoughts:
We are one point behind league leaders Lincoln. Let that sink in a bit seriously especially when you look back at where we were last year at this time. The play of Jeremy Lopez and Anthony Hernandez really impressed me this month, both will be key all season long. The part I hated the most is seeing two of our players go down with bad injuries, especially John-Paul as that hurts the most.
What to look forward to in December:
Four matches remain of the 2016 portion of the season. The month starts with a crucial contest against third place Europa FC in the first match between the two all season. The next two matches are against Britannia and Leo FC. Closing out the year on New Years Eve the Red Devils will be facing St. Joe's. Finally the draw for the Gibraltar Premier Cup second round will take place on 15 December.
