Champions League Group D

Good luck with Olympiakos man! There seems to be a lot of love for Mancini!

Maybe just a tip though, try breaking your text up a bit so its not a wall of text! But a good start!

August / September - Super League

We started of our league campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Panionios, not a bad performance but no end product.

Next up and the last game of August we had Kalloni and won 2-1 all of the goals came in the first half with Kalloni scoring after just 5 minutes but we took the lead 2 minutes later and extended that to 2 in 33’.

In the third match of the league season was against Panathinaikos known as The Derby of the eternal adversaries.
It is one of the most violent rivalries in world football with many of the games being overshadowed by events around the stadium, flares and chairs are thrown onto the pitch so delays are common but when the matches start they are usually entertaining and this one was for the opposing team. A late first half goal rattled us and it got worse when our captain Esteban Cambiasso was sent off in the 70th min, 5’ later they made it 2 with Tommy Smith formulary of Ipswich getting on the score sheet and so we couldn’t recover.

Our next match was against Xanthi and we hoped to win this convincingly after the derby defeat but it wasn’t meant to be finishing 1-1 a dreadful Home draw.

Finally, to end the month of September was 1st place and unbeaten Panetolikos Away. We managed to win 3-1 comfortable but letting the foot of the gas in the final 10 minutes so no clean sheet but 3 points.

The Greek Cup 2nd round is contested in a group format 8 groups 3 teams in each. Olympiakos drew out Lamia and OFI from the second division in Greece and PAS Giannina from the Super League.

Septembers game was against PAS Away we scored first just past the half hour mark but then conceded on the stroke of half time which is becoming a common theme. 73’ on the clock and Manias scored a second for the hosts. But the game had a draw on it until then and it was meant to be because Alberto Botia got the equalising goal on 89’, but it wasn’t done there as Thorodos Berios was sent off in injury time.

Olympiakos had a good start to their Champions League campaign by beating Mlada Boleslav of the Czech Republic 1-0 at Home, they went into the match as favourites and they showed that with a crowd of over 30,500 Olympiakos had no excuses to not win but although they were dominant it took until the 84th minute for fan favourite and former West Bromwich striker Brown Ideye to come up with the goods and put the hosts ahead.

The last game of September in all competitions was Away to Galatasaray after just 9’ Sneijder put them ahead, Andre Martins got the visitors level 34 minutes in. Half Time Olympiakos were in ascendency, but it was Galatasaray who got the next goal 14 minutes after the break Lukas Podolski putting them 2-1 up. Olympiakos had nothing left and just 3 minutes until the clock hit 90 they would go 3-1 down with Serkan Çalik spoiling any hopes of a late equalizer.
Very good result in the CL mate and a good start to the league season!
mgriffin2012: Thanks, we started off quite well and then the loss against Panathinaikos didn't help the team, we are already drawing too much and not comanding games.

October - January

It took 11 matches and an unbeaten run of 8 games for Olympiakos to go top of the Greek Super League.
10 wins out of 11 matches (1-1 draw vs Platanias) extends Olympiakos’ lead at the top of the Super League to 5 points.

In the Champions League it was the final match of the Group stage that would decide if Galatasaray or Olympiakos would make it through to the Last 16.
Olympiakos had Home advantage in this one and it took just 10 minutes for them to take the lead with Brown Ideye. The first half was end to end but Brown Ideye put them 2-0 up just before Half time after an error from Semih Kaya. In the second half it was more of the same Yasin Ozetekin pulled one back for the visitors. Another goal would send Galatasaray through but the defence stayed strong and with 20 minutes remaining Yaya Toure scored the decisive goal which would end the match as a contest. Olympiakos are through!

The Last 16 of the Champions League has been drawn!

Olympiakos will play at Home on Wednesday the 15th of February against...

January - April

We remained unbeaten for 27 matches in the league since the 2-0 loss against Panathinaikos.

In the Champions League we got a 1-0 loss against Manchester City at home which was impressive. The second leg didn't go well a tall Man City improved drastically in the second leg running out 4-1 winners.
