JACK Aitchison has had a very busy and active last year for being only 16, but the young striker who has made several appearances with the senior team this season is celebrating yet again after signing a three-year contract with the Hoops.
The 16-year-old put pen to paper in Paradise a matter of minutes after landing back in Glasgow after Celtic's 3-2 victory over FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto.
The Celtic Youth Academy prospect just turned full-time in February after being part of the St Ninian’s school programme operated by the Hoops and his new contract with the club, which starts today, will take him through to the summer of 2019 at the earliest.
“It’s a massive step up, but I have just tried my hardest and worked my socks off. I’ve just gone full-time after leaving school and if I keep working hard hopefully I can get more chances with the Development Squad."
“At the start it was hard but I’ve been building up my strength and speed. Training with the boys every day has been great but it’s still hard."
“It’s difficult both physically and mentally. You need to think sharper, faster and also do everything else quicker but I think I’m coping okay."
“I was worried it was going to be a big jump but my progression has been okay and I feel better about myself – faster and stronger.”
He added: “It’s a great experience training with the first team and playing alongside them with the Development Squad, but it’s all about playing against first-team players in the league and getting to know the game."
Manager Brendan Rodgers said, "I am very happy to have Jack sign until 2019, he is a great player and all these times he has been called up to the first team he has made a statement, I know the rest of the guys are just as excited over this news and can't wait to see what is next for him."
You can see Jack on Celtic TV in both senior and developmental team action throughout the season.
