Sudbury Court FC is an amateur football club based in Sudbury, West London. The present incarnation of the club was founded in 2016 as the byproduct of a community football initiative spearheaded by Brent Council, The Football Foundation and the Sudbury Court Residents Association, with the club receiving an initial £5,000 grant from Brent Council to improve the facilities at the Sudbury Court Sports & Social Club, in addition to a £1,500 grant from The Football Foundation.

The club will play the 2016-17 season in the Middlesex County Football League Combination, having taken over the affiliation & registration of the previous Sudbury Court, which counts John Barnes amongst its alumni. The club is currently affiliated to the Middlesex County FA.

Since July 2016, the club has been managed by Olly James. The young manager has been a perennial figure at the club for some years, and was selected by the board for his tireless work despite his relative managerial inexperience.

History to follow

Sudbury Court currently play their home games at the Sudbury Court Sports & Social Club, located on the Vale Farm sports complex in Sudbury. The ground has a capacity of 500 all standing, and boasts a grass pitch measuring 112 x 71 yards alongside a full size 3G pitch which the club uses for training sessions.

Work to improve the ground and facilities was completed on August 20th, 2016 and was funded by a £5,000 grant from Brent Council, who own the site that the ground occupies. The work, led by a team of volunteers, included a new covered supporters area, improvements to both home and away dugouts, the installation of perimeter fencing and general landscaping to improve the ground's accessibility.

Sudbury Court’s primary club colours are red and black. Since 2016, both home and away kits have been manufactured by EV2 Sportswear. The home kit features a prominent Inter Milan style diagonal stripe of crimson and black on a red background, whereas the away kit is a simple black design with a white collar.

The club’s badge was redesigned in 2016, to coincide with the clubs takeover, and features a red background with a crimson embellishment of a church, symbolising Sudbury’s rich religious heritage.

The club’s main rivals are AFC Sudbury, however with the current gulf in league positions between the two it is unlikely they will meet regularly in competition.

Sudbury Court also share a lesser rivalry with AFC Wembley, who play two leagues above Sudbury Court in the Middlesex County Football League Premier Division, and whose ground is located just a short walk from Vale Farm.

James Takes the Reins at Vale Farm

Published at 12:37 on 30/06/2016

The new-look Sudbury Court FC board has today announced the arrival of local 23 year old manager Olly James to spearhead the community club.

The youngster will lead the team in the 2016-17 season, after Sudbury Court successfully gained clearance from the Middlesex FA to participate in their league, which currently sits at Level 14 of the English Pyramid system. The West London outfit will take over the place of its predecessor, Sudbury Court Sports Club, after an eleventh-hour deal was struck between the Residents Association and Brent Council just hours before the FA deadline for club registration.

Despite his relative inexperience, James has been a popular figure around Sudbury Court in recent years, regularly helping out with the coaching & development of the former youth sides based in the local area, and he is hoping his appointment will act as a springboard for other younger personnel to take up more central roles in their local clubs:

“Especially at grassroots level, we typically see a lot of volunteers working day in, day out for their clubs. I am hoping that with more community involvement like we have shown here at Sudbury, these unsung heroes of the game will see their efforts rewarded. Football, particularly at this level, is built around having a core group of fans & players alike working their socks off for each other and their club. I hope to continue the good work we have done here and go on and replicate that on a higher level”

James wasted no time getting stuck in to the action at Vale Farm earlier today, with the club expected to announce their pre-season fixtures later this afternoon in preparation for the team’s first Middlesex County Combination fixture on August 27th.
Really nice graphics and good start to the story
A very tasty start to the story, I'll be following with intent!

2016-17 Friendlies Announced

Published at 15:40 on 30/06/2016

Sudbury Court FC have today announced four pre-season friendly games in July and August ahead of their inaugural Middlesex County Combination league appearance.

The four games will all be held at the Sudbury Court Sports & Social Club and will kick off in just over a week’s time, where the club will face Mid-Sussex Division One side DCK Maidenbower. This is followed up with friendly matches against Bolney Rovers (Saturday 16th), Netley Central Sports (Saturday 23rd), and finally Petworth (Monday 1st), before their initial Middlesex County Combination fixture on the 27th of August.
How far down the pyramid are you? I forget the order. Regardless, I'm enjoying this so far mate

Justice & MJK46 - Thankyou for taking the time to read and comment!

ScottT - We're level 14 on the pyramid, so there's a lot of scope for development here which is why I chose this particular club for this. I don't know which direction I'll be taking this in but this (little history, little expectations, big scope) is the perfect setting

James Welcomes First Arrival to Vale Farm

Published at 11:38 on 01/07/2016

Recently appointed Sudbury Court manager Olly James has this morning welcomed unattached defender Matt Cunnington to the squad, giving the 21 year old a second chance in football after a miraculous recovery from an on-field cardiac arrest 8 years previously.

The youngster had been on the books at Brighton & Hove Albion’s youth setup when he suffered a massive cardiac arrest requiring six attempts at defibrillation before defying all the odds to make a full recovery and comeback to the game.

He will provide cover for Pakistani right-back Kashif Siddiqi, particularly as the experienced defender has been mooted with a possible call-up to his national side for their friendly match against Vietnam at the end of August and, although he will not expect to be part of every game, the young player is eager for the opportunity learn and continue his development that was cruelly stunted at an early age.

The signing will come as no surprise to those around the community club, who see Matt’s story as a classic tale of triumph against adversity. Stan Johnson of the Sudbury Court Residents Association believes Cunnington can become Sudbury’s very own ‘feel-good story’, adding that he felt it was ‘fantastic’ that the club could step in to help give a second chance at success.

The Evening Gazette wishes Matt Cunnington all the best at Sudbury Court
Hopefully Cunnington can go on to make a huge impact, he certainly is a fighter!
