After completing just one week of a four week trial, 22 year old Nigerian striker Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe has signed on amateur terms at Vale Farm as he looks to return to competitive football after over 18 months out of the game.
The powerful striker last played for Northern Premier First Division side Carlton Town in the 2014-15 season, and with sides around London and the Home Counties expressing an interest in signing the youngster, Sudbury Court manager Olly James decided to offer the six foot striker the chance to play competitively for his side after he impressed both Ben Lewis and Shaun Allaway during first team training, with the striker showing a good turn of pace and an excellent first touch; something which James believes will help the forward to realise his potential in the physical lower leagues:
”Originally we had planned to give Junior four weeks to train with the lads but given the level of interest coming from elsewhere I felt he’d shown enough in that week to convince me and the coaches that he could become a strong, physical presence up front with his strength and pace. He can play both up top and on either wing comfortably so will be a real asset to us over the course of the season, and I hope he goes on to do just that”
Ogedi-Uzokwe will not be eligible to feature in tomorrow’s league fixture against Hillingdon Under 18s as his registration was submitted to the Middlesex County FA on Friday morning, around 12 hours after Thursday evening’s cutoff for same-weekend player registration, however the striker will be available for selection against Som Academy the following Saturday, September 24th.
