Rayo Vallecano de Madrid appoint Wayne Kerr

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/waynekerr.png

Rayo Vallecano have ended their search for a new Manager by appointing former Vallecano winger, Wayne Kerr who will begin his role from the beginning of the pre-season.

Kerr, 39, known for his playing days with Hibernian, Aberdeen, and Rayo Vallecano will be stepping into the management role for the first time in his career just three months after bagging his Continental A License.

Rayo President, Raúl Martín Presa announced on the club website that Kerr had been signed on a one year deal, and due to his lack of experience in the managerial role a Director of Football will also be appointed shortly to work alongside the new manager. "It is not to undermine Wayne at all. It is to help Wayne during his transition into the Manager role, and to allow him to concentrate on the tactics and the training field. The new Director of Football will be more hands on behind the scenes with the paper trail, allowing Wayne to be fully focused on getting this great club back into La Liga".

Presa went on to say, "Wayne will be fully involved in the interview process and selection committee to find a new Director of Football as the pair will have to work very closely together when it comes to planning the clubs foray into the transfer market."

Kerr is rumoured to be delighted to have been hired at Vallecano, the club where he retired after four season, and looks forward to embarking on a successful career with the club.

First Thoughts: We have a very experienced but ageing side. However based on my first assessment we seem very capable in the division of getting a promotion in the first season.

It is obvious that we lack any real depth in the centre of midfield and with a real lack of funds the only way I can seemingly strengthen is to go into the loan market whilst trying to retrain a few select players to add to our versatile wings.

Rayo Vallecano appoint Ramón Planes as Director of Football.

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/ramonplanes.png

Rayo Vallecano have appointed Ramón Planes as their new Director of Football, just days after hiring new Manager Wayne Kerr.

Planes, 48, has made his way back to the Capital having previously been on the staff in the past and is said to be relishing his new role. "I am very excited that the club I have come to love has asked that I return to help as we push for promotion.

Rayo President, Raúl Martín Presa reiterated that this role is to help take alot of the burden from Wayne Kerr as he continues his development as a Manager. When asked what Planes role would be, Presa responded "Ramón will be responsible for our scouting assignments, working alongside Wayne as we look for the right individuals to help improve the squad, and a lot of the contract negotiations. Planes and Kerr will have an outstanding relationship and I look forward to seeing it develop as we make our way back into La Liga."

Kerr who was not at the press conference due to training commitments is said to be very pleased with the addition and looks forward to working with Planes.

Vallecano sign Alená on loan

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/alena.png

Rayo Vallecano have today unveiled the signing on Carles Alená on loan from Barcelona until the end of the Season.

This shows clear intent from the Madrid outfit as they look to bolster up their squad as they battle for promotion. Both Wayne Kerr and Ramón Planes sat beside the eighteen year old shortly before he took part in his first training session.

Kerr announced, "I am very happy to have the opportunity to work with one of the Country's most exciting young talents".

Vallecano announce the sale of Manucho

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/manuchotransfer.png

When questioned Kerr admitted, "He was in the last year of his contract and made it clear he had no intention of signing an extension. He left us with one choice unfortunately, but nontheless, I wish him the best in Belgium".

It is thought to have been met with a mixed reaction by the Vallecano fans. However, with such a strict wage budget in place it may have done the clubs finances a favour.

Vallecano sign Guridi on loan

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/guridi.png

Rayo Vallecano have today unveiled the signing on Jon Guridi on loan from Real Sociedad until the end of the Season.

This is their second loan signing since the combination of Kerr and Planes was announced and is their second young centre midfielder to add much needed depth to their squad.

Kerr announced, "Jon is obviously a player with enormous potential and I hope we can help him realise that potential this season".

Overview
Absolutely no complaints after the success of that pre-season. We eased ourselves in with the new formation against some mediocre opposition, before playing slightly tougher opponents. Defensively we looked pretty sound, only conceding the one goal from a set piece, and attacking wise it was nice to see that goals will be coming from all over the pitch. I am still currently torn between two formations for this side so I will continue to use both. One thing is for sure, the full back/wing back role seems like it will be a key to my success.

The Tactics

4-3-3

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/433.png
With the squad I have at my disposal this seemed like the logical choice to go for, and whilst defensively it was hugely effective I always felt as if we were lacking that second attacked up top. This is not to say that I will not be using this formation as on the wider pitches it can open up pockets of space that could be hugely beneficial in game.

4-4-2 Narrow Diamond

http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/GlenGoddy/FM17%20-%20Vallecano%201st%20Season/41212.png
However, having done some research quite a few pitches are on the short and narrow side so I have decided to adopt a second formation which will allow us to dominate the midfield. The only width will come from the wingbacks and we will play very narrow defnsively pushing them out wide on their attacks.

Overview
It seems that the pre-season friendlies could very well have been a false dawn. Against Girona we really struggled to get out of our half for the first 60 minutes but our resolute defending really shone through.
Tenerife went ahead within ten minutes in our first home match and really put us on the back foot. But it wasn't for long as Javi Guerra was immense on this day and should've had a hattrick if it wasn't for Ruiz's boot deflecting it back across the keepers path. Definitely one for the dubious goals committee.
Our Lugo game was lost in the first ten minutes, conceding in the 4th and 8th minute I instantly changed from our 4-3-3 formation to the 4-4-2 narrow diamond and brang on an extra striker. Admittedly Álex Moreno was not the happiest being subbed that early on but after the embarassing start I felt I had to do something. It nearly paid off as we peppered them throughout the match but we just couldn't get a breakthrough until the dying moments.

All in all, I think the first three games may have come as shock to the system. The players morale ahead of the first game was superb but now I believe they realise they have a job on their hands to gain the promotion we desire.

That's it for August, the transfer deadline is quickly approaching and Planes is carefully scouting for a perfect player to come in whist the vultures are circling a few select players from my squad.

Best of luck with Rayo, Madrid needs another side in the La Liga :D
A mix bag of results there but Rayo will certainly make for a good save and I can't wait to see how things pan out. Good luck mate!

Haha. My exact reason for choosing them was if it becomes successful they're in the prime city for a solid fan base and more likely to get an increase in stadium capacity etc. Unlike my other Sassuolo save where I'm in Europe every season and struggling to get more than 12k per home match.

Thanks. More difficult than I was expecting following from that pre season. Hopefully get the next few months up within a few days. Work has just changed my hours and limited my game time the gits.

Overview
Starting the month with a superb 5-0 victory over Huesca I thought we would kick on into the next match having dominated from start to finish, however the mid week cup game at Oviedo proved to take a lot out of us considering we had to go through the full 120 minutes to get a result.
Three days later facing the team at the top of the league with five wins from five was always going to be a struggle, and with a tired set of players we just couldn't get into the game and were never really a threat.
Levante the week later was a game of shoulda coulda woulda's as we were by far the better team. Taking the lead early on we really should've but the game to bed, but with ten minutes to go and a wayward backpass we threw the game away. Needless to say they received their first dose of the hairdryer treatment after that game.
Travelling to Oviedo for the second time in the month I was worried that our fallout from the Levante game may give us a bit of a headache for this match. But the team shown that they can show some grit when they need to as we ground out the result we needed to keep up the chase with the top of the league.

Another month gone, and a solid but unremarkable month. One loss away from home and we look pretty solid in front of our own fans. We've progressed in the cup to and whilst I don't really expect to challenge in the latter stages it's good to still be involved.

Looks like a challenge full team the first season. Hopefully you can close the 6 point gap in the season.
