Heartbreak is a feeling all too familiar for fans of Liverpool FC, especially those born in the last 20 years - from UCL heartbreak in 2007, to watching the league slip away in 2014 and a Europa League defeat in 2016, the fans have seen it all. But there have also been high points; The 2005 win in Istanbul, the Supercup the same year, an FA cup in 2006, and most recently, the league cup win in 2012.

Ok, so times have been rough, we get it. However with Jürgen Klopp at the helm since 2015, and one of the most lethal looking attacking forces in the league heading into the new season, hopes are once again high for a Liverpool side who finished 4th last year, and in doing so returned to the Champions League for the first time since exiting at the group stage in the 2014/15 season.

With established players like Phillipe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino leading the charge, and an abundance of young talent, Liverpool fans are bound to be cautiously optimistic heading into the new season, but there are still lingering issues in the club's defence, and some might say the goalkeeping staff need some hard work and home truths if the club are truly to challenge.

In #WeAreLiverpool, the club have a slogan which identifies a sense of togetherness between staff, players and fans, and a sense of hope as Jürgen Klopp seeks to lead a Liverpool side he has been building for 2 years to dizzying new heights.

Emre Can has today put pen to paper on a new deal which will tie him down at Liverpool until 2022, ending speculation which linked him to a switch to Juventus when his previous contract ended next summer.

Speaking today, Emre was optimistic about his future at the club, and is hoping to build on last season, where he scored 5 goals - including an incredible overhead kick against Watford - in 32 appearances as the club finished in the Top 4.

"Obviously every player wants to consistently improve, and I believe that staying at Liverpool is the best way for me to achieve this. I had a good season last year, and I think this team has the potential to do a lot more, and keep pushing for titles and trophies.

"I'm delighted to have signed a new contract, because I am truly committed to improving both myself and the club, and I think now fans can look forward to even more success in the future."

With Nathaniel Clyne still battling a damaged spine, and not expected to return until at least January, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has wasted no time in securing his replacement: Bayern Munich right back Joshua Kimmich.

The 22 year-old German made 50 appearances in 2 years at Bayern, scoring 6 goals, and cementing a regular place in the Germany squad, with 20 caps and 2 goals at senior level at the time of writing. Kimmich is said to be enthusiastic about joining up with compatriot Emre Can at Liverpool, with the defensive midfielder penning a long-term extension last week.

Despite two solid seasons for the reigning Bundesliga champions, Kimmich still believes his best is yet to come, and that Jürgen Klopp is the man to bring his game to the next level:

With Liverpool hoping to compete in 4 competitions this season, manager Jürgen Klopp has moved to address some of the concerns around squad depth by bringing in two new faces on loan; AC Milan midfielder Manuel Locatelli, and Hoffenheim Defensive Midfielder Dennis Geiger.

Klopp looks set to run a 3-man midfield this season, and it is thought that Locatelli and Geiger have been brought in to provide depth and respite in a midfield which is surely going to be the engine room of any challenge for honours this season.

19 Year-Old Locatelli has caught the eye at AC Milan since his first-team debut in the 2015/16 season, starting 27 league matches and scoring twice since his debut in 2016. Widely considered to be a physical midfielder, Locatelli's work rate and willingness to put his body on the line have drawn plaudits across world football, and those traits are sure to mesh will with the counter-press that Klopp has tried to implement with his Liverpool side.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Locatelli was optimistic about his future, whether that is at Anfield or back in Milan: "I am delighted to be in Liverpool. The club is very big and well known, and I know they have an option in my deal to make the move permanent if I do well, but that is far in the future. For now, I will focus on giving good performances, and bringing success to the team."

Joining alongside Locatelli, is 19 Year-Old Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger, who's technical ability has been lauded, and drew some attention during his 25 starts for Hoffenheim's reserve side last season. Hardworking and with an eye for a good pass, Geiger's ability to dictate the tempo of a match will no doubt be valuable at Liverpool, especially as he is expected to play against some of the less dangerous sides in the league, meaning that ability will allow the team around him to press forward and attack while he holds the ball until the right moment.

That's the plan! i'm hoping to run quite a big squad so that some of the youngsters already at the club get game-time too

Interesting signings, more to bolster the squad in depth and help the youth team, I presume? Definitely expecting deals to be done at the end of next season to get them in.
