Callum Roberts joins Northampton Town

Northampton Town are pleased to announce the signing of Callum Roberts.

The winger joins the club on a season-long-loan from Newcastle United.

Roberts becomes the second signing made under Ryan Moore, following on from the arrival of goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson from Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old has been with the Magpies since the age of eight and made his senior debut for his boyhood club in 2015 - coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in the FA Cup. He would later sign his first professional deal with the club.

Callum has spent time out on loan with Gateshead and Kilmarnock, making three appearances for Gateshead in 2015 during a one-month loan spell.

He would join the Scottish Premiership side in January 2017 on a deal until the end of the season. Making his debut in a losing effort to Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Cup, he would go to make ten appearances at Rugby Park.

Since, Callum has been an integral part to Newcastle's U21 side - in the league setup, as well as in the CheckaTrade Trophy. Scoring three times across five games in the Trophy, Callum has demonstrated his ability to play at this level.

Callum commented: "I am looking forward to getting to work here. This is a great chance for me to prove myself here in England, in a challenging league with some top players. The club has high aspirations this season and I want to be a key part to that success that we're hoping to achieve."

Meanwhile, Ryan Moore is delighted to get the deal done.

"Callum is someone I admire. He has tremendous quality, in which he has displayed against League One and Two sides in the CheckaTrade Trophy in the last couple of years now. His quick dribbling ability will make him a tough player to deal with this season and he's going to a player that will get the fans off their seats. I'm very excited to welcome him."

Olle: Thanks mate!

Griffin: Hahaha you know it!

Griffo: Thanks man, I'm glad you've enjoyed it so far. It's a style I very much enjoy.

Justice: Hahahaha pretty much. :P

Northampton claim victory over Hereford

Northampton Town began their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 victory against Vanarama National North side Hereford at The PTS Academy Stadium.

The game marked Ryan Moore's debut as Cobblers manager, after he took the reigns for the first time following his appointment in June.

Dutch striker Kevin Van Veen and Iraq international Yaser Kasim provided the difference, as they scored a goal apiece in front of more than 2,000 supporters.

Moore's side was completely rotated at the half-time interval, with 19 players getting a run-out for the side. Jordan Turnbull, Matt Crooks and Yaser Kasim were the only players to complete the full ninety minutes for the hosts - as Moore seeks to get his squad fit for the season opener against Lincoln on 4th August.

The opening goal came in the 49th minute, as Dean Bowditch's corner was powerfully headed home by Van Veen.

It took until the 87th minute for the second to come, however. Jordan Turnbull's ball to the outside of the area was met by Kasim, who placed his effort beautifully beyond former Accrington keeper Andrew Dawber, who was on trial for the Southern Premier League champions.

"Today's game was a good chance to see where everyone was at. I am pleased by the effort shown by the lads," said Moore. "Everybody looked sharp and eager - against a tricky team. Albeit only being a pre-season fixture, I demanded a level of ability and that was met, which is fantastic."

Moore has said the door is open for players, if they prove themselves over the next few weeks. "It's a great opportunity for players to prove themselves to me. I have come in and it's a clean slate; everyone has the same chance to work their way into my plans. If you show ability and determination, you have a great chance."

Northampton will now travel to the Dog & Duck Ground on Saturday to play Wellingborough in their pre-season friendly. The only other fixture scheduled to be played at The PTS Academy Stadium is against League One side Barnsley on 21st July.

Justice: Definitely and he is an improvement on the current set of players in that position too.

The Date

With one last look in the mirror, I finally accepted that I wasn't going to make myself look any better for my date. A quick dusting of aftershave and I was ready to walk out the door and meet Francesca. Well, as close as I ever would be to ready.

My heart was pounding just a little quicker than normal, okay, maybe a lot quicker than normal. This was a big moment for me - I hadn't had feelings for someone like this for some time now and I was hoping those feelings would be shared. If not, then it's back to square one, isn't it.

I wasn't exactly ready for rejection. Nobody is when you think about it. But after so much heartbreak in the past few years, I couldn't be arsed with another rejection, especially from someone I seemed to be so in touch with as her.

I arrived earlier at the restaurant we were due to meet in. Ten minutes early, to be precise. I wanted to make sure I was there, eager and ready for her arrival. I sat at the bar, pondering over the menu whilst I waited - looking at the reasonably priced drinks. For a posh little bar, it wasn't too costly to my surprise.

I looked over the top of the menu, as I heard the entrance of someone through the door. I smiled as I realised Francesca entered the room, beautifully dressed. As she approached, I met her halfway and said, "You look amazing," before taking her to our table. "Thank you," she said taking her seat. "You're not looking too bad yourself," she laughed.

We ordered some drinks and began talking. I just enjoyed being in her company as she was a great person to talk to, full of lots of exciting stories. The topics ranged, but all in all, they were all just about general things - stories about people we knew etc. and laughing away about numerous things.

I insisted that I paid for her food and drink, after she ordered her food - much to her annoyance. "I can't let you do that," she said.

"It's not like I'm strapped for cash, Fran." I replied. She was used to people shorting her name, in fact, she was more accustomed to Fran than Francesca at this point.

When our food arrived, I have to admit, I was f*cking starving and glad to see it arrive. I was pleasantly surprised to see her openly admit the same thing too. "God, I needed this," she exclaimed, tucking into her lamb. Whilst we ate, I awkwardly looked at her from time-to-time, taking in the minutest of aspects. Everything about her was simply stunning.

We sat around for a while after we had finished our food, including the desserts we ordered. It was at that moment I thought it was best to explain my feelings. I could feel my heart pounding and the sweat beginning to culminate together, as I began. "Fran, I have to tell you something..."

"What's that, Ryan?" She asked, inquisitively.

"I'm really glad to have you in my life. You're a great person and... f*ck it, simply put, I love you."

There was a long pause, which albeit brief, in my head seemed to go on forever. I braced myself for a backlash of abuse, however instead, I was met with something else. "I've been waiting for that," she smirked. "I love you too." With that, she leaned over the table and kissed me. I left the bill on the table and we proceeded to head back to my house for "an early night."

Griffo: Much appreciated mate!

Justice: Jam roly poly to celebrate! ;)

Fair play to them for going home early to get plenty of sleep. They probably woke up with plenty of energy the next day.

Moore "confident" ahead of opening day clash

Northampton Town boss Ryan Moore is "confident" ahead of his side's opening day clash with Lincoln City.

The Cobblers enjoyed a successful pre-season, with victories against Hereford, Wellingborough, Gillingham, Sileby Rangers, Cogenhoe and Newport Pagnell. However, Moore's side failed to go unbeaten - losing 3-1 to League One side Barnsley.

Results in full:
Northampton Town 2-0 Hereford
Wellingborough 0-8 Northampton Town
Gillingham 2-3 Northampton Town
Sileby Rangers 0-3 Northampton Town
Northampton Town 1-3 Barnsley
Cogenhoe 0-2 Northampton Town
Newport Pagnell 0-3 Northampton Town

Town will take on one of the promotion favourites in Lincoln on the opening day. Danny Cowley's side enjoyed a successful return to the division last campaign and managed a seventh place finish, however lost to Exeter City in the playoff semi-finals.

Lincoln have recruited strongly over the summer, with the standout signing being the acquisition of Barnet striker John Akinde. The 29-year-old has an incredible goal tally in the division - scoring 56 goals over the past three seasons. Other notable additions include Harry Toffolo and Shay McCartan.

Moore has openly praised Lincoln and the management team ahead of the clash at The PTS Academy Stadium.

"The Cowley's have received a lot of praise over the last few season's and that is very much deserved. What they have achieved with the club is remarkable and that is typified by the results on the pitch. They are a dangerous side and a team I predict to be fighting for promotion, at the very least, this season."

"I have a lot of respect for the work they have put in."

Moore further addressed the need for his team to be vigilant against the visitors.

"We have to be focused. You can't afford to let them get into their rhythm - else they will punish you. They have that quality in the likes of Akinde. But, I am quietly confident in our chances. We have a squad that are ready for the challenges ahead of us and want to get off on the right foot. It is very important to do that."

"The opening day is an important day. The fans go into the ground wanting three points, but it sets the course of the season. A positive opening result you in a good position to build on, whereas the opposite has the opposite effect. We intend to deliver a good performance to send the fans' home happy at full-time."

Moore was pleased to confirm that his squad was fully fit heading into the fixture.

"Pre-season has been a real benefit to us, as it has allowed everybody to get back fit and ready. I'm pleased to say I have a complete pool of players ready to pick at my disposal. That's a massive plus for me."

Kick-off is at 15:00pm on Saturday.

Justice: Yeah I'm sure that was the case!

Griffo: It worked for me. ;)
