CB seems to fit nicely for you ;) Yourself and Koch are seemingly getting on well it will be interesting to see if something develops from here.

Soldier's Entry #3

1st November 2012

Location: few miles east of Reykjavík, Iceland

Nothing of notice happened since my promotion but we did have our Halloween party yesterday! We weren't allowed to get into costumes but the female soldiers decided to paint their faces into a character, most were Lions and Tigers but only one went with a vampire, Private Ashley Koch. As the happy-goer of the platoon she bounced between huddles of soldiers but she spent most of her time with me as I was alone.

(I still feel sad about the nickname, like I've been a disappointment to them and a majority have showed their true colors to me in private but in front of our Drill Instructor they followed my orders without hesitation, I would report this behavior but I'm afraid I'll be labelled a snitch and push them further away from me....have no idea what to do.)

At the party, Private Ashley Koch tried to make me happy and to an extent she succeeded, we, played pool, darts and threw axes at each others heads before we went to dance; this is where everything went bad. The soldiers who weren't pleased with me didn't enjoy the fact that I was at the party even though both of our senior officers were there, they aimed to ruin my night. Initially they bumped into us, nearly tripped us and sometimes 'accidentally' poured drinks on me but thankfully they only targeted me.

Once the Senior officers left, they decided to go to my locker and expose my personal secrets, including this very own Soldier's Diary; they crossed the line and everyone knew it. I reacted stubbornly and incorrectly, I threw a punch...multiple ones. I didn't care what would happen once we were separated I was taken over by anger, I wanted them to suffer for shouting my inner thoughts so far to the platoon, I didn't care about the others opinions....I feared that Ashley's opinion would change after she heard my feelings about the current situation, about her in general and to be honest, I wanted to injury the soldier.

Our commander found out about the fight on the 1st of last month, I was given a punishment till the end of February of next year, I was told to man-up, grow a pair and ignore the words while the soldier got away with a week of cleaning duties. I feel like I've been treated as a traitor, betrayed by the ones that put their trust me in, like they wanted me to fail and lash out on my soldiers. I should've stuck with football....
Great update. I was going to be like Justice and tease about Ashley... but this update ended on quite a sad note, so that would be inappropriate. :P I'm interested to see where this might lead, given this character is clearly having some regrets.
If it makes you feel better, I would have thrown multiple punches too.
Nice update Balik, hopefully you can show those militants who is really the boss!(you)
It must be tough for this character to be cast as an outsider. The best he can do is try not to cause conflict with others (and then expect to get away free from trouble). Nobody likes a snitch, after all ;)
Casually just throwing axes at each others heads...Sounds a great party!

Soldier's Entry #4

January 3rd 2013

Location: Reykjavík, Iceland

Our platoon were sent to the center of Reykjavík for protection duty during the New Year's celebration, we arrived at 0500 on the 31st and got back to base on the evening of the 2nd of January. During the morning I was stationed at the football pitches to ensure everyone there was safe and having fun; it was nice seeing football in the flesh instead on a TV, although I wasn't allowed to play, I had fun.

I managed to find a quiet place to read some books I carried with him, mostly football biographies belong to famous football personalities such as Brian Clough, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Frank Lampards and finally Ronald Reng's biographyc about the sad ending of Robert Enke. I decided to read about Brian Clough that day, a manager that I admired due to his career both as a player and manager. Knowing the ins and outs of a player's or manager's life both on and off the pitch was something that I did not know that I needed that helped me expand my view on the footballing world.

I got gifted the book 'Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game' by Michael Lewis based on how MLB's Oakland A's General Manager Bill Beane built a competitive team through analytics, stats and figures while being limited by Oakland's small budget, something that may work in football but hasn't yet been introduced in mass, maybe I can be the one that uses it....
Intriguing final few lines! I wonder who would take the punt if he was to consider going into football management?
Haven't seen too many moneyball movements in recent times, it'd be interesting to see somebody target that approach in a transfer market.

Soldier's Entry #5

July 20th 2013

Location: Aarhus, Denmark

We were given a month off after we completed training and housed the protection details for Iceland, it was a learning experience as I grew both mentally as a soldier, leader and a man.

I was able to go and see my local team Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF) play against my supported team, FC Midjtylland on opening day; of course I got some dirty stares from AGF's fans due to a relatively local boy supporting one of the local team's rivals, but you see, Midjtylland played their inguinal season in the 1999/2000, the same season I started watching football religiously. The supposed 21 minute ride from Hørning to Aarhus turned into a 2 hour ride.

I invited Ashley Koch to join my sister and I to watch the game, this was Ashley's first ever football game and to say that she was excited was an understatement, she berated me with questions about the rules, players, leagues and everything about football in general! Once the match started and the fans cheered on their respective teams, she really got into it, not even 5 minutes in she started berating the ref like a true football fan would. The match was the perfect outing, football got a new fan and my team won! Wouldn't be able to complain about it even if I tried.

We decided to spend the rest of our day within the city, shopping, drinking and throwing darts. We ended up at a bar nearby, which was a mistake as it was sea of AGF fans, and some were mad at me for wearing the shirt of a team that just humiliated them. Some tried to strip it off me while most tried to fight me and my stubborn self didn't cover the shirt but wore it proudly, I got into a heated argument with the bartender who was imploring me to take it off cause it will cause more trouble than good and so far he was right. After a few minutes of negotiating, I took it off when he agreed to allow us to drink and eat for free....the money lost from the sales was probably lower than the eventual money lost from replacing any broken furniture.

On the way back to our car I noticed a kiosk that was offering information about a class offered by the Danish FA....a class to get your coaching license, I took a pamphlet to read on the ride home and I started to rethink my career choices, the class was intriguing to say so, it was a learning experience about a passion I have, a path to achieve my most wanted desires.....is it time for a change of scenery?
Yes! A change of scenery is definitely needed if you are ever doubting yourself.
You seem to be spending a lot of time with Koch, I wonder if she will have any impact if you do decide to move away from the army.
I'm sure you enjoyed getting Koch excited about something, a bit weird that it happened when your sister was there though :/
