Plenty of positives to focus on. An excellent youth intake, but more importantly an excellent couple of months that has you on the very brink on promotion. It's in your sights now, it's just a case of ensuring you get the job done!

Certainly games there you can take all three points to seal the title, in particular that first one. A good month going unbeaten. Looking forward to a promotion party! ;)

1860 Munich Crowned 3. Liga Champions

Fans of Die Löwen celebrate the clubs promotion to Bundasliga 2

• The title was sealed with one round remaining in the 3. Liga season
• 1860 Munich last played in Bundesliga 2 in the 2016/17 season
• The final match of the season will see 1860 Munich play a home fixture against FSV Zwickau

An incredible season from 1860 Munich has come to its climax as the club sealed promotion and claimed the 3. Liga title last night. Despite a 0-0 draw against Eintracht Braunschweig, both 1. FC Kaiserslautern and FC Wurzburger Kickers failed to win their fixtures, sealing the title for Die Löwen.

It has been an incredible return for the club after they were relegated to 3. Liga in 2016-17 but then invest Hassan Ismaik refused to pay the fees to enter the competition, seeing the side relegated to Regionalliga Bayern for the 2017-18 season.

Fans of the club have credited manager Daniel Bierofka who has stuck by the club through its recent troubles to see them return to Bundesliga 2. “The club is back where it belongs, the past few years have been tough but now we will continue to look forward and build from here.” said Bierofka.

“I am thrilled for the club to claim the title, the players have all worked so hard this season.” said 1860 Munich captain Felix Weber. “Our next challenge will be to stay in Bundesliga 2 but for tonight we will celebrated.” he added.

It remains to be seen who joins 1860 Munich in Bundesliga 2 with FC Ingolstadt 04, FC Wurzburger Kickers and 1. FC Kaiserslautern all vying for promotion.

ScottT: Really happy with the youth players that came in, it is just a matter of how I utilise them to benefit the club in the short term as that is our number one priority

TheLFCFan: Promotion party it is!
What a fantastic end to a fantastic season

Congratulations. 1860 are back to where they belong, arguably. Hopefully measures can be made next season to begin to formulate a strategy to push the club back into the top-flight.

Owusu Breaks 3. Liga Goal Scoring Record

Osei Owusu has led 1860 Munich to Bundasliga 2 after his incredible form this season

• The 23-year-old spent the past two seasons with 1860 Munich
• Owusu also picked up seven player of the match awards during the 2019/20 season
• Despite his form, Owusu is yet to be selected in the Ghana national team squad

In the last game of the season against FSV Zwickau, Osei Owusu has scored two goals to see him become the record holder for most goals in a 3. Liga season, taking the record from Dominik Stroh-Engel who scored 27 goals in the 2013/14 season for SV Darmstadt 98.

The Ghanaian scored 28 goals from 37 appearances during the 2019/20 season, a dramatic change from the previous season at the club for Osei Owusu where he scored just 3 goals in 16 appearances.

“To break the record is amazing but I couldn’t have achieved this without the support I have had from our physio team to keep me playing as well as the faith from Daniel (Bierofka) to keep me playing as often as possible.” said Osei Owusu. “My next challenge is now to return back to my club and make an impact there.” he added.

Owusu will now return to his parent club DSC Arminia Bielefeld who will play 1860 Munich in the Bundesliga 2 this season. The 23-year-old will have to displace Andreas Voglsammer who has scored 40 goals in 128 games for DSC Arminia Bielefeld should he want to start for the first team.

It will be interesting to see if 1860 Munich make any efforts to see the striker return to the club ahead of their 2020/21 campaign.

ImThatSybGuy: Thrilled to get across the line in the end

Trotman9165: I am really looking forward to the challenge of firstly staying up but then making my way onto the top flight

ScottT: Back to back promotions would be a dream but that is certainly a very tough ask

TheLFCFan: Thanks LFC
A fantastic personal accolade for Owusu. Perhaps a target for next season will be to retain his services, whether that be on loan again or permanently for 1860? A familiar face who played a key role in achieving promotion, it seems a natural aim.

Results

It was a nervous start to the month for 1860 Munich, with the title on the line the players seemed to go into their shells with two bore draws against SV Waldhof Mannheim and Eintracht Braunschweig, the second of which saw the title sealed for Die Löwen after results fell their way.

In the final match of the season, it was a party atmosphere at Grünwalder Stadion as 1860 Munich scored four goals in the first half in a dominant display against FSV Zwickau.

3. Liga

1860 Munich have claimed the 3. Liga title with FC Ingolstadt coming from nowhere to also earn promotion to Bundesliga 2. 1. FC Kaiserslautern will face Bundesliga 2 SV Sandhausen in the Bundesliga 2/3. Liga Play-Off.

SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach and SV Waldhof Mannheim will join FC Viktoria Koln and SV Meppen in being relegated from 3. Liga.

Player Of The Month

Efkan Bekiroglu

The ever present Efkan Bekiroglu was named the player of the month for April after continuing his fine form this season. The 24-year-old asserted himself in the final fixtures of the season, even managing to get his name on the scoresheet in the final match of the year against FSZ Zwickau.

ScottT: Only time will tell whether or not we can bring Owusu back next season, I am sure the fans would want nothing more
What a fantastic season! A bit rusty towards the end but that doesn't take away a title in your hands!
Not a bad way to conclude things, eh!

Bierofka Named 3. Liga Manager Of The Year

Daniel Bierofka has begun to forge a reputation for himself as a manager to keep an eye on

• Bierofka guided 1860 Munich to claim the 3. Liga title
• The 41-year-old manager re-signed this season to see him at the club until 2021
• 1860 Munich scored the most goals by any side in the 3. Liga

After a season which saw his club exceed expectations to claim the 3. Liga title, 1860 Munich manager Daniel Bierofka has been named the Manager of the Year for 3. Liga, beating out Michael Schiele of FC Wurzburger Kickers to claim the award.

“Daniel is certainly a different kind of manager from what I have experienced in the past.” said 1860 Munich vice-captain Dennis Erdmann. “When in the change room or at training, it feels like you are working with him, not for him, I feel this is one of the key aspects which sees his players work so hard for him at all times.” he added.

“I am incredibly proud of the work that Daniel and his team have produced this season.” Said 1860 Munich Managing Director Michael Scharold. “Seeing the systems in place at the club now, it bodes well for the future of the club and I hope we are able to be successful long-term.” he added.

Looking forward, Bierofka will have a challenge on his hands as he looks to avoid relegation from Bundesliga 2 and see his club maintain a place in the competition for seasons to come.

Jack: We stuttered at the end of the season against weaker sides but the work was already done fortunately

ScottT: Pretty happy with the last game at home, the first half was ruthless

A tough start to the final month but a big end of season win to really cap off a great season. Hopefully you can keep a hold of Osei as I think he will be a major part of next season! Also congrats on a deserved manager of the year award!
