TheLFCFan & ScottT: After the season he had, there was no way I could not bring Owusu back
The squad are ready and raring to go for the new season. No injury concerns to contend with and momentum on your side from promotion. Good luck!

1860 Munich Eliminated From DFB-Pokal

Maximilian Sauer provided two assists for SPVGG Greuther Furth in their DFB-Pokal victory

SPVGG Greuther Furth 2 - 1 1860 Munich

1860 Munich have lost their first round fixture of the DFB-Pokal, going down to SPVGG Greuther Furth on Friday.

SPVGG Greuther Furth winger Marvin Stefaniak got his side off to a flyer, scoring in the fifth minute after Maximilian Sauer put him a great position to put the ball in the back of the net. Maximilian Sauer would provide another assist with a beautiful cross going between two defenders straight to David Raum who was able to increase the lead. Known for their clean style of play, it was a different 1860 Munich after two goals had been scored against them, with three of their players receiving yellow cards in the twenty minutes before the half time break.

An error from goal scorer Marvin Stefaniak saw 1860 Munich get back into the game, looking to clear the ball he put in the path of Osei Owusu who converted the easy one on one opportunity. 1860 Munich picked up the tempo after the goal but struggled to get shots on target despite the large amount of opportunities presented to them. Unable to find an equaliser is was SPVGG Greuther Furth who came out victorious.

SPVGG Greuther Furth have drawn DFB-Pokal favourites Bayern Munich in the second round of the competition. While in an interesting scenario, 1860 Munich’s next match is against SPVGG Greuther Furth in Bundesliga 2 where they will no doubt be hoping for a different result.

ScottT: Good to have the direct opposite start with injuries that I had last season

Trotman9165: I hope so but it will be a challenge

Copywriter: Welcome to the story Copywriter, I have enjoyed the club so far
Far from ideal, but an opportunity to focus entirely on the league for the forthcoming season. It could be beneficial in the long run.

Starting the season with a 2-1 loss away from home against FC. St Pauli, 1860 Munich would then face SPVGG Greuther Furth twice, losing in the DFB-Pokal followed by a 3-1 victory in the Bundesliga 2 match-up with Robin Hack collecting a brace.

1860 Munich and 1. FC Nurnberg then played out a 4-3 thriller in which the dismissal of Dennis Erdmann in the 66th minute for a two footed tackle changed the game, giving Nurnberg enough of an advantage to claim victory.

In the last match in August, 1860 Munich caused a major upset, defeating 1. FC Union Berlin who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season by two goals. During the match, Frenchman Lisadru Tramoni came off the bench in the 81st minute and in doing so became the youngest player to take the field for 1860 Munich.

Fixtures

1860 Munich will be running the gauntlet in September, starting with a fixture against fellow recently promoted side FC Ingolstadt 04 away from home, they then face the three remaining undefeated sides in the competition in succession.

Comments

ScottT: I also think it might be helpful in the long run, the league has to be the priority
Decent start. Collecting two wins from four of your opening games when you've just been promoted is always welcome. A tough run awaits next month, though.

Interesting start. Dissapointing to go out of the cup but you managed to get revenge. Midtable is certainly a good place to be for a newly promoted side. Hopefully the results continue and if possible, improve!

Finally read through all of this and hadn't had a chance to comment, congrats on SoTM and congrats on the 2 Buli

It was a month of two halves for 1860 Munich, defeating FC Ingolstadt to start the month before causing a boilover by defeating title favourites SV Werder Bremen 1-0, despite having to finish the game with ten men after Dennis Erdmann was sent off in the 73rd minute, his second dismissal in four matches.

From there, it was a tough run of matches with a 3-0 loss to second placed Arminia Bielefeld followed by a 3-2 loss to first placed 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 in a fighting effort.

-----

2. Bundesliga

ScottT & TheLFC Fan: Happy with the start of the season, holding onto hope there might be potential for a bit more though

MJK46: Welcome to the story and thank you

Can't argue with that positioning and those results considering the predicted league position given at the beginning of the season. You're certainly within touching distance of great overachievements, despite it being early on but you've done well at consolidating this far :)
1
Immensely close division with it being early days still. However, you're certainly getting some good results on the board which is always important!
1
Playing the top three in a month and then fourth in the next month is incredibly tough, so getting a win against Werder is a very impressive result. Hopefully after the Erzgebirge Aue game you should have some much kinder challenges.
1
Doing quite well to be in touch with the upper positions. Big month ahead.
