Having completed over 20 seasons of the 'San Marino Challenge' on Football Manager 2012, and having taken FC Vaduz and Liechtenstein on a journey on Football Manager 2015, the latest country to try and reach the pinnacle; Canada.
Taking over at Toronto FC didn't actually represent too much of a challenge, with the team having reached two of the past three MLS Cups, and already with a squad in great shape to challenge for trophies. But the long term goal of this game is to gain success with Canada, not Toronto, so the established squad was ripped apart with that target in mind.
With established names like Jozy Altidore and Pozuelo moved on, my budget was able to stretch far enough to bring in some players who would help Toronto, and more importantly, develop for Canada, over the coming years. 25 year old centre back Doneil Henry, 26 year old striker Lucas Cavallini, and biggest of all; 19 year old wonderkid Jonathan David brought in for a cool £15 million. I also managed to secure deals for a number of this year's games wonderkids; Naci Unucar, Matias Arezo, Ryan Gravenberch, Nicolo Armini and Barcelona's Canadian winger Ballou Tabla, but each would have to wait for their transfer date, each arriving over the course of the next two years,
The squad was rounded off by signing some young American prospects, including 18 year old attacking midfielder Matko Miljevic, and 21 year old striker Emmanuel Sabbi, and the Newcastle fan in me couldn't resist bringing in Matty Longstaff on a year long loan. The first season featured some huge early success, good signs for the future, and some utterly devastating results.. (season 1 review to feature screenshots .. bit of a newbie at this so bare with me!)
