ScottT: It was a close shave and 9 times out of 10, I reckon we'd get the result we deserve

Eoin97: Encouraging, but still early days yet

Griffo: Going to have to make sure we stay up here now!

OCTOBER 2019

RESULTS

Leeds United 0-1 West Bromwich Albion

Charlie Austin 83

We were on a high going into this one. Six wins out of a seven game unbeaten streak had us in a strong position. We were on form and with West Brom underachieving in 11th, the spotlight was on us to get the three points, under the lights at Elland Road. We would be without captain Liam Cooper, who missed out through suspension after picking up five yellow cards.

After dominating and missing chance after chance, we fell behind with 7 minutes to go. Against the run of play, West Brom hit us on the counter. Our pressing left a lot to be desired, before Callum Robinson laid off Charlie Austin, who curled one into the bottom corner from the edge of the D. It was infuriating to see us waste so many chances, we could have had three or four by the time they scored, but instead we were punished for being so wasteful. An off night.

Millwall 0-1 Leeds United

Helder Costa 69

The West Brom defeat brought us down to Earth with a bump, days before one of our toughest away games of the season. Every year, we never fail to make a game at The Den look harder than it should and today, we were up against a Millwall side that had made a poor start, in front of the Sky cameras for the tea-time kickoff. We were struck with another injury blow before the game. Luke Ayling, on the recovery path from a twisted ankle was hit with a knee injury that would sideline him for another five weeks. It never rains, but it pours for this poor lad.

Millwall's gameplan was obvious from minute one. Park the bus and hope for the best. We tried just playing our game but it wasn't enough. So in the second half, we piled players in their half and looked to get it in the danger areas by whatever means necessary. We finally cracked them with just over 20 minutes left, an early cross from Douglas on the left found Costa at the far post, who powered home a header to put the away fans in ecstasy. They opened up in search for an equaliser afterwards, but it was too late and in fact, they were lucky not to go further behind. When you camp inside your own box from kickoff, you're playing with fire and ultimately, Milllwall got burned.

Leeds United 0-0 Birmingham City

After the international break, all the anticipation led to this game. Rounding off the club's 100th anniversary week was a home fixture against Birmingham. It was fitting to spend the centenary game at Elland Road in front of the fans, with special edition kit at the ready.

Unfortunately, the performance was a colossal disappointment. It was an abysmal performance that saw us take 28 shots with 14 on target, failing to score a single one of them. It was an outright embarassment, the front three need to get their shit together asap.

Preston North End 0-1 Leeds United
Tyler Roberts 80

The last three games were showing a worrying trend. We weren't scoring enough and now we came up against another tough away test in the form of a midweek trip to Deepdale, to face Alex Neil's Preston North End.

In the end, it took us piling bodies forward until we finally broke through once again. A headed clearance fell to Pablo Hernandez on the edge of the area. He whipped in a fast ball and Tyler Roberts was quickest to react, turning it home on the edge of the six-yard box. It was just about acceptable. At least we took one of our umpteen chances this time.

Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Leeds United

Steven Fletcher 87
Gjanni Alioski off 90+1

Tough away trips were becoming the theme of the month and we were faced with yet another. This time it was Friday night at Hillsborough, a Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday for the Sky cameras.

After all our chances and everything we tried piling bodies forward, it was the hosts who took the lead. It was a very cheap goal to concede, with Steven Fletcher completely unmarked, heading home Kadeem Harris' corner. The more we opened up, the more chances they started to create and when they caught us on the break once more, it went from bad to worse. Gjanni Alioski brought down Kadeem Harris as he burst down our left, picking up his second booking of the night and leaving us with 10 men. It was a grim night and just about summed up our form. Batshit woeful in front of goal and eager to throw away points. Another to forget.

LEAGUE TABLE

We were in a strong position this time last month and some may argue we still are, but my god have we pissed away a decent chance this month. Eight points dropped, six of which could well have seen us go top. But the most damning stat of all is this: in five matches, we've created 99 chances and scored just twice. I'm absolutely baffled at how we've gone from having the best attack in the league to being so absolutely impotent. But as the old adage goes, form is temporary...

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

I'll start off by saying I was extremely tempted to just give it to the fans for sitting through all of that.

His average rating may not back it up, but no one else in the side has been consistent enough to be considered our best player all month. Whilst Ben White has done a quiet job, he's been ever-present this month, in a defence that's conceded just twice in five games. That's the end where I want to see that stat, not the other one. It can't be a coincidence that he's been in a defence that's kept three clean sheets this month, so top marks to him.

IN OTHER NEWS

So as you may have seen before, Luke Ayling was once again injured on the recovery trail. That man should just play the rest of his career in a zorb ball. Going into November, he's approximately a week off being able to train and then it's a case of getting his match fitness up, provided he doesn't injure himself again. We're looking at a late November/early December return for him.

The managerial merry-go-round is now in swing. Birmingham City parted company with Pep Clotet on the 5th October, with the club sitting in 21st after a 4-1 humbling against Middlesbrough. They brough in ex-Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis on 22nd October and the club are now 23rd, with two defeats under Pulis already and seven conceded. This could be a long year for them.

The Carabao Cup Fourth Round saw a couple of shock results, with League Two side Forest Green dumping Championship Wigan out of the competition, beating them 2-1 at The New Lawn. Meanwhile, 10-man Burnley continued their run in the competition, seeing off holders Man City in a 2-0 win at Turf Moor. We took 11-man Burnley to penalties, just saying.

That's all for now folks. Wasn't an easy update with our form in front of goal seemingly dropping off a cliff, but hopefully this is just a blip and we'll be back to our free scoring selves next month...
Goals appear to be an issue. Hopefully you can start firing on cylinders soon and get back to winning ways after a bit of an inconsistent run of form. Let's hope Ayling manages to stay fit for longer than two minutes too!
I think Charlie Austin is every Championship defences worst nightmare and it certainly seemed to be the case against you here. Still a very tight table with many places to be won and lost within the confines of a single result. Keep it up!
A very difficult and quite irratating set of fixtures and results during the whole month, with tough away games left, right and centre, combined with some poor chance conversion. But hopefully its just a blip and I can't see this Leeds side struggling like this too many more times this season. Every great team has an off day (or days).
ScottT: it would be ideal if a solid defence and a free-scoring attack weren't mutually exclusive. Maybe that will change...

Jack: he's an absolut nightmare to play against, but at least we'll only play him once more this year

Eoin97: Form is temporary as they say...

NOVEMBER 2019

RESULTS

Leeds United 6-3 Queens Park Rangers

Mateusz Klich 12
Jack Harrison 13
Tyler Roberts 27

Jordan Hugill 41
Todd Kane 57
Tyler Roberts 61
Ebere Eze 67
Helder Costa 72
Jack Harrison 78

With the season now in full swing, each game was beginning to take on more importance. After an inconsisten run of form in October, it was important to get back on the horse this month, with the Christmas rush on the horizon. We had a meeting during the week to get the players believing in themselves again (particularly the attackers) and worked on a few things in training to get us firing on all cylinders once more.

We were off to a flyer after just 12 minutes in. After some patient build-up play in the QPR half, Hernandez laid off Klich, who curled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the D. The fans in the Kop were still falling over each other when we doubled our lead. Roberts hit a cross from the right and up popped Jackie Harrison at the far post to turn it home. It was 3 just before the half hour, this time with Harrison crossing from the left and Roberts emerging at the near post to bury it.

The Rs got a goal back shortly before half-time, with Jordan Hugill getting up at the far post to head home Ebere Eze's corner from the left. They halved the deficit shortly before the hour, as Luke Amos found an unmarked Todd Kane with a through ball, with the QPR right-back firing into the far corner. Game on.

Within four minutes of game on, it was game over (surely?). Harrison played a quick ball over the top to send Roberts through one-on-one, a chance the Welsh Ronaldo coolly dispatched. They pulled another back soon after, ex-Leeds man Jack Clarke floated a cross over from the right which Ebere Eze- a player I've had my eye on since day one- headed past Casilla.

They couldn't hang on for longer than five minutes before we doubled our lead again. This time, Harrison produced a cross from the right which Costa rose and headed home. Our sixth of the afternoon came through that man Harrison. Helder Costa's shot hit the post and with the goal wide open, Wor Jackie was never missing from there. Just like buses, after scoring just two all month, we'd suddenly hit six in the space of 90 minutes. This sudden turn of events was baffling, the defending frustrating, but we scored an absolute bucket load. A good performance on the whole.

Leeds United 1-0 Blackburn Rovers

Jean-Kevin Augustin 82

This was a rarity, we went into a home game as underdogs. Blackburn had surprised everyone and made a blistering start, winning 11 of their opening 16 games and sitting pretty at the top.

The game was stripped of one of its key players ten minutes in as Bradley Dack was stretchered off. A shame for the game in general and for Blackburn, but we had no complaints.

We grabbed the winner inside the last 10 minutes, a sexy through ball from Hernandez put Augustin through one-on-one. He'd been on the pitch for just six minutes before he found himself powering it past Christian Walton to win us the game. It was an impressive display against a side many would've expected to get a result against us. Casilla was on top form as Blackburn did make decent chances for themselves and Augustin came off the bench to pop up with the big moment when we needed it most.

Luton Town 2-5 Leeds United

Tyler Roberts 18
Jack Harrison 27
Mateusz Klich 32
Jack Harrison 33
James Collins pen 48
Jack Harrison 51
James Collins 77

This is the trip many a fan looks out for on fixture release day. Stands tight to the pitch, ground level boxes with netting to stop flying balls getting into gardens. Speaking of gardens, there was the famous march through the back gardens to get into the away end. This was Luton away. We were hit with some mildly inconvenient injuries going into this one, Kalvin Phillips was out with a twisted ankle whilst Pablo Hernandez had been hit hit a gashed leg.

We got off to a good start, with Roberts firing us into the lead inside the opening 20 minutes, after some good work from Harrison. Jackie cut inside, drawing defenders into the middle before laying off Roberts on the overlap who fired into the top corner from the edge of the area. Along came another well worked goal, after some patient build-up in the Luton half, Shackleton rolled it to Harrison, who hit the post from the edge of the D. The ball made an agonising roll along the goal line before finally fully crossing it before it got to the other post. 5 minutes later, we added a third. Berardi played the ball back to Klich, who hit an absolute ripsnorter into the top corner on his first touch, from 25 yards out. It was seconds before we were celebrating again, Shackleton with his second assist and Harrison with his second goal of the afternoon. Shack played it to Harrison from deep. Harrison made a long run into the box, skinning James Bree on the way before finding the far corner.

The hosts opted to throw the kitchen sink after half-time and got themselves a penalty a couple of minutes into the second half. Berardi was lucky to only receive a booking, for denying Callum McManaman what looked like a clear goalscoring opportunity. James Collins stepped up and tucked it into the bottom corner to Casilla's right. Our four-goal cushion was restored just a few minutes later, when Costa skinned McManaman and Dan Potts before squaring to Harrison who was in that kind of mood to bag his hat-trick. Luton did pull another goal back with just over 10 to go, when Potts found Collins with a deep cross from the left, unamrked and onside to volley home from six yards.

After a fantastic first half, I felt we were sloppy and complacent in the second half. Nonetheless, we were utterly devastating in that first half hour or so and ultimately, that's all that counts. Harrison can take a bow, he played an absolute blinder in this one.

Reading 0-3 Leeds United
Jack Harrison 19
Tyler Roberts 24
Ben White 83

Anyone who's played in the Championship on FM20 will know how horrible Reading are to try and play against. I was, full disclosure, bricking this away trip. We were still without Hernandez and Phillips in the starting XI, as they weren't *quite* back at full fitness.

No prizes for guessing who put us in front, as Costa sent in a cross from the right which Harrison initially headed at the bar, before nodding home the rebound. The lead was doubled five minutes later with Harrison turning provider this time, crossing from the left for Roberts to poke home from the edge of the six-yard box. It was Ben White, of all people, who finished it off for us. Forshaw sent over a long free kick which Klich headed at the bar, White was fastest to react. Overall, it was a good performance, if not totally dominant. It was a good solid effort which put us top of the league. Blackburn's defeat against Brentford the following night kept us there.

Leeds United 2-0 Middlesbrough

Barry Douglas 66
Tyler Roberts 83

We were on fire going into this one. Four wins in four and now we were sat top of the league. Or at least we were before the 3pm kickoffs knocked us down to 4th. We were the late kickoff for Sky cameras in front of an expectant Elland Road under the lights.

It took a while before we were able to break Boro down, but we finally got there midway through the second half. Tyler Roberts held the ball up in the box beautifully before teeing up Barry Douglas. The Scot received it on the edge of the box and leathered it into the corner first time. Roberts sealed it with seven to go. After some patient play in our own half, Klich picked it up about 30 yards from his own byline and played what can only be described as a sheer sex pass to Roberts, putting him through one-on-one and the Welsh Ronaldo made no mistake.

We were back to our dominant best. Whilst we'd put out some impressive results, we lacked the performance at times, but this was just sheer domination from start to finish, with a convincing scoreline which, in all honesty, flattered Middlesbrough.

LEAGUE TABLE

You can probably now see why I was so eager to get this update posted. Our blistering form in November has been the perfect retort to the stuttering form we showed in October. Five wins from five has propelled us to the top of the table, where we feel we belong and now the task is breaking away as runaway leaders. The next couple of months or so will be absolutely crucial to our promotion campaign.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

You could see this coming from a mile off. He was already in pretty good form, but Jack Harrison has suddenly found a gear that I'm not even sure he knew he had. Harrison has absolutely terrorised defenders in the Championship this month, bagging and impressive six goals and five assists in five games and catapulting himself to joint top scorer in the league, now on 11 goals. If he keeps this up, he could well blow us out of this league with a double-digit number of games still to play.

IN OTHER NEWS

The awards have been rolling in at the club. Surprisingly, Jack Harrison did not take Championship Player of the Month Award, he didn't even place in the three nominated somehow. The award actually went to his LS11 colleague, Tyler Roberts, who bagged five goals and two assists for the month. In second was Mateusz Klich, who bagged two goals and an assist. Roberts also took Championship Young Player of the Month Award, whilst Klich netted Goal of the Month for his scorcher at Luton. I took Manager of the Month, although credit as always, goes to the inspirational form of the players.

There have been a couple more managerial changes in the Championship this month. Neil Harris was sacked by Cardiff on 9th November, with the club sitting 20th after a 2-1 defeat to rivals Bristol City. He has been replaced by former Millwall colleague, Steve Morison. There's also been a change at Pride Park where Derby sacked Philip Cocu on 23rd November with the club sat rock bottom, following a 2-0 defeat against Preston.

The managerial merry-go-round has also sparked into life in the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti lost his job on 8th November after a 2-1 defeat against Watford put Everton bottom of the table. He was replaced by ex-Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores. Steve Bruce was shown the door as a result of a takeover at Newcastle and was replaced by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard. Wolves' poor position cost Nuno Espirito Santo his job at Molineux, with the club in 14th after a 3-0 defeat against Man Utd. He was replaced by Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti.

That's all for now. The next update could be tomorrow or it could take days. I'd like to think we're right back on track with this though...
Hit a bit of a slump but still in a very good position

Funny you should mention that... ;)
What a month! Just dont bottle it please... ;)
Much better. Goals flying in and much more defensively sound towards the back-end of the month.
Fair to say the goals have come back. Great form and now you can build a lead over the rest, hopefully with Harrison continuing his great form.
Eoin97: I wouldn't put it past us just yet...

ScottT: looking good eh?

TheLFCFan: Harrison is on fire, more where that came from...

DECEMBER 2019

RESULTS

Huddersfield Town 0-1 Leeds United

Barry Douglas off 57
Ben White 60

After a month that saw us pick up five straight wins, it was onto another Yorkshire derby as we headed to the John Smith's stadium, to play Huddersfield Town. Our last visit saw Huddersfield run out 2-1 winners in their promotion season, with Garry Monk and David Wagner coming to blows at the end over Huddersfield's last minute celebrations. The Sky cameras were rolling once again.

We went down to 10 men just before the hour, with Douglas bringing Emile Smith-Rowe down when on a yellow card. We moved around to a 3-5-1, with Berardi moving to centre-back, Alioski and Dallas coming on for Bamford and Hernandez and filling the wide positions, whilst Harrison moved into the hole behind Roberts.

Despite the red card, we took the lead. Hernandez hit a free kick which Jonas Lossl dropped, in the goal mouth scramble that ensued, Cooper poked it towards goal before White stuck a leg out and turned it home. In the end, it was quite a drab game, characterised by a lack of chances at either end. Still you make your own luck...

Leeds United 1-0 Hull City

Jack Harrison 2

Still on a blistering run of form, next up was yet another Yorkshire derby against Hull City. The Sky cameras were in once again to take in a game at Elland Road under the lights. We got off to a flying start, when Bamford crossed from the left for Harrison to poke home at the far post. The rest of the game never really got going, but once again we got the points. The players were starting to tire at this point, so it is getting harder to play at a higher intensity. In particularly encouraging news, Luke Ayling got through his first full 90 minutes of the season.

Leeds United 3-0 Cardiff City

Pablo Hernandez 8
Patrick Bamford 38
Jack Harrison 51

Struggling Cardiff were the next team to try and not lose against us. They had at least wriggled out of the relegation zone in time for their trip to Elland Road. With failed ex-Leeds striker Steve Morison in the Cardiff dugout, it was going to be an intriguing encounter.

We were off to a flying start, when Barry Douglas whipped over a free kick from the left, which Hernandez met with his head at the far post. Douglas also set up the second goal, his corner from the left was met by a bullet header from Patrick Bamford at the back post which looped over the keeper and back across goal. Douglas bagged a hat-trick of assists shortly after the restart, he sent over a deep cross from the left and Harrison peeled off his marker to knock it in at the far post.

The game was as one-sided as the scoreline suggests, with Cardiff barely getting a sniff. Barry Douglas was on top form and absolutely battered them.

Fulham 0-2 Leeds United

Jack Harrison 19
Jack Harrison 27

After eight wins in a row, we were one more from equalling a club record nine straight league victories, a record set in 1931 meaning that even Don Revie's side of the 60s and 70s weren't able to beat it. What would have been a really difficult trip to the capital was eased by the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic due to injury. We were able to name a full strength back line for the first time this season, with Douglas, White, Cooper and Ayling all starting. Ian Poveda was named amongst the subs, after earning a step up from the under 23s.

We took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes, when Douglas sent a cross over from the left and the usual suspect- Jack Harrison- met it at the far post on the volley. Harrison doubled his tally nearly ten minutes later, getting on the end of a through ball from Hernandez, skinning Joe Bryan, before powering an effort into the far corner of the net. It was a brilliant dominating performance once again, a comfortable result and a huge three points against big promotion rivals. Check mate, Dick Ray's promotion winning side of the 1931/32 season.

Leeds United 2-0 Preston North End

Jack Harrison 24
Barry Douglas 37

Ben Davies off 39

We went into Boxing Day with an 89-year-old record to break. Maximum points from the last nine games and now the focus was Elland Road as we looked for the perfect Christmas present, a new record win streak set at 10 matches.

Unsurprisingly, Jack Harrison got us off the mark. It was a routine far post finish, as he met Helder Costa's cross from the right. Our lead was double inside the last 10 mintues of the first half, courtesy of a spectacular free kick from Douglas, a routine hit from just outside the box with his wand of a left foot into the the top corner. Things went from bad to worse for Preston when two minutes after getting booked, Ben Davies went in late on Costa and earned himself an early bath, for a second bookable offence. Another satisfyingly dominant performance, a new winning streak record.

Birmingham City 1-2 Leeds United
Jean-Kevin Augustin 6
Ben White 21
Ivan Sunjic 60

After setting the record on Boxing Day, the challenge was now to see how far we stretch this winning streak. Our last game of the decade came at one of the grounds we've seen the most of in the last ten years, St Andrews. Birmingham were still struggling and with Tony Pulis in charge, that's not likely to change. I put out a rotated XI as some of our best players were looking looking tired and we had West Brom away coming up in a few days.

We made a blistering start five minutes in. Hernandez sent over a corner from the left and Jean-Kevin Augustin marked his return to the scoresheet with a well-timed finish at the far post. 15 minutes later it was 2-0. It was another Hernandez corner, from the other side this time, which Ben White met with a header at the far post. The hosts did pull one back in the second half, Casilla came out for Jeremie Bela's free kick and dropped it at the feet of Ivan Sunjic, who had no hesitation poking it into the empty net. Overall, it was a dominant performance, the score was made to look closer than it was by a Casilla howler and an impotence from open play. The run continues...

LEAGUE TABLE

As I said previously, if we keep picking up results, we will pull away and we have. Six points clear of 2nd placed Bristol City and eight clear of 3rd placed Brentford, we're looking like runaway leaders at the moment, but we all know how quickly that can change. Conceding just once all month has helped our goal difference greatly and we now have both the deadliest attack and meanest defence in the league. I love it when a good plan comes together.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Ben White is one of just two outfield players that have been deemed fit enough to start all six matches this month and has shown himself to be so much more than just a number that happens to be in shape. He has been ever-present in a defence that has conceded just once all month and has even managed to bag a couple at the other end. At a time when your Jack Harrisons of the world are currently grabbing all the headlines, this team would be lost without White's quality at the back. Honourable mentions go to Pablo Hernandez (the other outfielder to have started every game) who has bagged himself a goal and three assists, Jack Harrison who has continued his shit hot form and bagged five goals, and Barry Douglas whose prowess from set pieces can never be underestimated, assisting four and scoring one.

IN OTHER NEWS

The monthly awards have recognised the work done at the club once again, with the tremendous efforts of the players and coaching staff winning me Manager of the Month Award.

Barry Douglas has put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping him at the club until June 2022. Douglas has been immense so far, scoring three times and assisting eight.

There have been a couple more managerial movements in the Championship. Stoke City fired Michael O'Neill on 14th December, after a 3-2 defeat against Luton saw them slip to 19th. He has now been replaced by Steve McLaren in an apparent attempt to earn the club two relegations in three years. Meanwhile, Millwall parted company with Gary Rowett on 21st December, after a 0-0 draw with Barnsley saw the club slip to 20th. He's yet to be replaced, however Neil Harris has emerged as the favourite having been sacked by Cardiff, the club he left Millwall for in the summer.

In the Carabao Cup, Forest Green's cup run came to an end with a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, whilst Burnley earned themselves a place in the semi-final, with a 3-2 win against Arsenal at the Emirates. As for the FA Cup, we've been drawn away at Northampton Town in the Third Round. There are a couple of other ties that catch the eye, Oxford United against local rivals Reading and the Nottingham derby, as Nottingham Forest cross the Trent to take on Notts County.

That's all from me for now. There'll likely be a January update tomorrow, if not it should be no later than Friday.
Absolutely stupendous form atm from this Leeds side. Breaking an 89 year old winning streak record, while barely even conceding throughout those wins is quite remarkable. Maybe I jinxed it by commenting don't bottle it :)) Lovely update by the way ;)
Clean-sheets galore! Looking very, very impressive. Surely Leeds can't bottle it now with all this momentum?
A superb month for defensive and attacking departments. Ben White simply HAS to be made permanent at the end of this season (along with Kev)
Well on top as they should be!
