BORUSSIA DORTMUND FACILITIES

STADIUM

Westfalenstadion (Signal Iduna Park)

The Westfalenstadion, or Signal Iduna Park under the sponsorship name, is Borussia Dortmund`s home stadium. It is located in Dortmund within the North Westphalia region of Germany. It has a maximum club competition capacity of 81,365 and a maximum international competition (German national team) capacity of 65,829, which makes it the largest capacity stadium in Germany and the 7th largest in all of Europe. It holds the outstanding record of the highest average European stadium`s attendance over the course of a season with a staggering 80,588, which was set in the 2011-12 season. The Westfalenstadion has also seen as many as 55,000 season ticket holders at each game as of 2015. The ground also has the largest terrace for standing fans in world football, with it`s Südtribüne (South Bank or The Yellow Wall) holding a mass of 24,454 people. The stadium also contains a huge football museum dedicated to all things Dortmund called the Borusseum.

TRAINING COMPLEX(S)

Hohenbuschei

BVB Evonik Football Academy

The Hohenbuschei training complex is home to both the first-team and academy and is located in Dortmund within the district of Brackel, with an area of 18,000 m2 (190,000 sq ft). The outside of the complex includes five main pitches, with two having under-soil heating, one artificial grass pitch, three smaller grass pitches and a multi-functional sports arena. The inside of the complex contains the famous Footbonaut room (a robotic pass/shot accuracy tester), weight rooms, physiotherapy rooms, changing rooms, massage rooms and even saunas, with the business part of the complex containing meeting rooms, offices, conference halls, a restaurant and even a TV studio.

The BVB Evonik Football Academy training complex is located on the grounds of Borussia Dortmund`s old training complex. It sits right next to the Westfalenstadion (Signal Iduna Park), and it is an ultra-modern training complex that aims to give the local young kids of Dortmund a place to develop their footballing skills. The outside of the complex has one and a half grass pitches and a view of the Westfalenstadion, with the inside containing changing rooms and a lounge area.

THE BVB TACTICAL FILES 2019/20 1.1

The Introduction of the Segundo Volante

The BVB Tactical Files 2019/20 1.1

With Julian Nagelsmann now having a couple of weeks to oversee his Borussia Dortmund side in the numerous training sessions and friendlies, a revelation has come through the cracks. Initially in the centre of the park, Nagelsmann was deploying great dane Thomas Delaney as a ball-winning midfielder, and former Liverpool man Emre Can on the bench as either his or deep-lying playmaker Axel Witsel`s replacement. But, through a lot of attention to detail of the tactic as a whole from the main man, he has decided that Emre Can fits the bill perfectly alongside Axel Witsel in the two starting midfield positions, in the role of a segundo volante. Why? Here is a brief analysis:

Emre Can attributes

Emre Can is an incredibly versatile player, with him having the perfect cocktail of physical, mental and technical attributes. Nagelsmann could not see any place for Can on the bench after unearthing his immense capabitlies as a segundo volante. The Segundo volante`s job is similar to a box-to-box midfielders, expect that even more work is done. Can in this role is responsible for winning the ball back very deep, just in front of the back three, and then looking to dribble his way up the pitch and find one of the attacking trio, or to simply lay it off and then hurtle towards the opposition penalty area to get on the end of a chance creation. Can has to then retreat back deep after he has bombed forward to make sure he doesn’t get caught out. It is a very demanding role, but one that is ever so important to the making of Nagelsmann`s side. It creates an extra attacking outlet where the opposition wouldn’t expect it to come from, and it leaves an attacking threat through three different channels, them being the left, middle and right. It also creates an additional protective barrier for the back three, as Can will drop very deep while the opposition is in possession. This also takes a tad bit of pressure off of the wing-backs.

Griffo: He has every right to be. He is a man on fire!

ScottT: You most definitely wouldn't expect any less.

TheLFCFan: I really hope so man!
