Flashback

In the small Yorkshire suburb of Alwoodley, where football was a way of life, there was one man who reigned supreme in the local Yorkshire Amateur league. His name was David Turner, and he was the mastermind behind Alwoodley FC's remarkable success. It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and their football ground buzzed with anticipation as the team prepared to take the field. They were on the verge of history, and David Turner stood at the helm, a picture of unwavering determination.

The year was 2015, and the fans had already witnessed five consecutive league titles under David's guidance. It was a streak of success that spoke volumes about his coaching acumen. And on this particular day, Alwoodley had the chance to lift their sixth consecutive Saturday league title.

Among David's many talents, one of the most notable was his eye for talent. And he had two shining stars that season - Darren Lowe, the prolific striker with an uncanny ability to find the back of the net, and Sam Garrett, the midfield maestro who orchestrated the team's play.

As the match began, it was clear that this Alwoodley side was on a mission. Darren Lowe, with his electric pace and sharp instincts, wasted no time. He scored a hat-trick in the opening 20 minutes, sending the fans into a frenzy. By the end of the season, he had racked up an astonishing 47 goals in just 28 games, a testament to his remarkable talent.

Sam Garrett, on the other hand, conducted the game from the heart of the midfield. His vision, precise passing, and unwavering determination made him the engine that fueled the team's success. With his leadership on the field, Alwoodley’s midfield was a force to be reckoned with.

The match ended in a resounding victory for Alwoodley FC, with a final score of 5-0 against Middleton. The final whistle blew, and the crowd erupted into cheers, their applause reverberating through the Yorkshire countryside.

As David Turner raised the league trophy high above his head, a sense of accomplishment and pride washed over him. It was more than just a victory; it was the result of countless hours of hard work, dedication, and a deep love for the game. Alwoodley had secured their sixth consecutive Saturday league title, and David Turner, along with his star players Darren Lowe and Sam Garrett, had etched their names into the club’s football history.

It was a moment that would go on to shape the future, laying the foundation for the ambitious journey David Turner would undertake, where he would strive to bring glory and success to a larger stage. But that sunny afternoon in Alwoodley would always be a cherished memory, where David Turner, the coach of the moment, had achieved a feat few could match.

Panzo: For a team of that level, extortionate! But that is what comes with having the support of such a large pool of previously disenfranchised fans

Maverik: Cheers mate! I don't have access to the English lower league database as yet, I'm led to believe it will be made available either in the next week or next 2 weeks depending on if SI can mend a few bugs within the pre-game editor.

Fun fact - I used to live in Alwoodley so know the area & the city very well.

I have to say, your writing style is incredible. You've definitely drawn me into this. Finding myself to be more of a Leeds City fan daily ha!

Garrett and Lowe join Leeds City

Leeds City are delighted to welcome the first two outstanding talents to our club, Sam Garrett and Darren Lowe, as they transition from their successful amateur careers to our club.

Sam Garrett, the midfield maestro known for his impeccable vision, precise passing, and exceptional leadership on the field, has been a standout player for Alwoodley FC, where he played a pivotal role in their six consecutive Yorkshire Amateur league titles.

Darren Lowe, the prolific striker with a remarkable 47 goals in 28 games, has also made the move from Alwoodley FC. His incredible ability to find the back of the net is a testament to his goal-scoring prowess, and we look forward to seeing him continue his fantastic form in the Leeds City shirt.

The transition of Sam and Darren from the amateur level to our club signifies our commitment to nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for players to realise their potential. We believe that both players will be valuable additions to our squad and will play an essential role in our journey to achieving our ambitions.

Please join us in welcoming Sam Garrett and Darren Lowe to the Leeds City family. We can't wait to see them in action on the pitch and believe that their dedication and talent will help take our club to greater heights.

Panzo: Oh fascinating! I used to play for what was the real-life precursor to Alwoodley FC in real life so I may have been slightly biased in my choice of team for Turner :D But thank you very much, long may it continue!

Leeds City AFC - Introducing Our Squad

Leeds City are thrilled to unveil the complete details of our first-team squad gearing up for the upcoming NCEL Division One campaign.

Staying true to our club philosophy, the squad comprises predominantly Yorkshire-born players. The heart of our team beats with local pride, boasting 6 players from Leeds, 5 from Sheffield, 3 from Hull, 2 from Bradford, 2 from Huddersfield, 2 from Halifax, and one player hailing from Barnsley.

In goal, Leeds City has secured the services of two promising young keepers: Henry Kendrick from Barnsley and Adam Kelsey from Pickering Town. Kendrick showcased his talents on loan at Penistone Church in the NCEL Premier Division, while Kelsey, formerly of Scunthorpe United, brings experience from the tier above with Pickering.

Opting for youthful vigour, David Turner has signed 20-year-old Kareem Hassan-Smith for the right side of defence, with James Carr, an 18-year-old from Hull City’s academy, providing capable backup. On the left side, we welcome former Leeds United academy graduates Aidy White and Matty Downing, both expressing their desire to play for the club they consider 'home.'

For the central defence positions, Turner has signed four competitors: half-Norwegian Matthew Fossen, Dwayne Wiley, Will Thornton, and Spencer Harris. They are all set to battle for starting spots in David Turner’s side.

On the right wing, we've secured the experienced National League North winger Ryan Hall, complemented by Oliver Greaves, a product of the Sheffield United academy. For the left, we're delighted to announce the signing of Peter Pawlett from Dundee United, a major coup for Leeds City. Supporting Pawlett will be Joe Leesley.

In the centre of midfield, the club has bolstered its options with Sam Garrett, Danny Greenfield, Mitch Hancox, and Chris Atkinson, each bringing unique strengths from Scarborough, York, and Farsley Celtic, respectively.

Leeds City has made an exception to its Yorkshire-born rule by bringing Leeds United legend Jermaine Beckford out of retirement. Accompanying him in the striking department are Darren Lowe, Stefan Moore, and Tom Greaves.

In preparation for the upcoming season, Leeds City will face off against Hibernian, South Shields, Hartlepool United, and Ayr United in preseason friendlies, with the two Scottish sides visiting Middleton Park.

Leeds City is ready to make its mark in the NCEL Division One, blending experience with youthful talent and a strong commitment to our Yorkshire roots.

Leeds City soar to the top in debut season

18th November 2023

Leeds City have stormed through the first half of the season in spectacular fashion after a 6-1 home win against Louth Town, reaching the halfway point with an unbeaten record of 21 wins and 1 draw under the guidance of their inaugural manager, David Turner. The team's impressive form has propelled them to a staggering 64 points, putting them well ahead of schedule in their quest for promotion.

Key to Leeds City's success has been the dynamic duo of star strikers Jermaine Beckford and Darren Lowe. Beckford, the Leeds United legend brought out of retirement, has been in scintillating form, finding the net an astonishing 29 times in 22 games. Lowe, the formidable striker partnering alongside him, has contributed 31 goals in 21 appearances. Their partnership has struck fear into opposing defences and has been a driving force behind the team's remarkable goal-scoring record.

Leeds City's dominance extends beyond the attacking third, with a rock-solid defense and a well-balanced midfield contributing to their unbeaten streak. The team's comprehensive victories and strategic approach to each game have earned them plaudits from fans and pundits alike.

As the team looks to the second half of the season, they have firmly set their sights on rewriting the record books. The current points record for the NCEL Division One stands at 102 points, achieved by Hallam in the 2021/22 season. Leeds City, with their current tally of 64 points, appears poised to shatter that record, making waves in the league and signaling their intent to make a significant impact in their debut season.

Manager David Turner expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the players. "The lads have been outstanding week in, week out. Their commitment to the cause and their performances on the pitch reflect the strong ethos we're building at Leeds City. We're taking it one game at a time, but I believe in the potential of this squad."

Club Chairman Gary Tucker echoed Turner's sentiments, expressing his delight at the team's remarkable run. "To reach the halfway point unbeaten is an incredible achievement for a new club. It's a testament to the vision and determination of everyone involved – the players, the coaching staff, and the supporters. We're excited about what the future holds for Leeds City."

As the team sets its sights on the second half of the season, Leeds City fans are filled with optimism and pride, revelling in the success of their club and eagerly anticipating what promises to be a thrilling journey in the pursuit of promotion.

Leeds will face higher-tier opposition in their next game, as they face NCEL Premier Division side Tadcaster Albion in the NCEL League Cup Second Round at Ings Lane.
