Player Potential Ability

Hi Everyone,

Im new to FM Genie Scout, and only discovered it as I've found that a friend has been using it when we have been playing a network game. Rather than tell him i know, i thought i would try and beat him to all the best regens (beat him at his own game). When i did a search and had the list sorted by potential ability, i tried for all the players at the top of the list. But my friend signed a player, and next time i went on genie scout this player was top of the list with potential ability of 197. Can anyone help explain how this happens? or How do i find these players before him?

there are some dates when the new players appear, so he must have checked right after they appeared, search the dates on the net, it's full of them.

This list contains the dates at which the regens will appear in each country (it is from fm2010, but it is still largely correct for fm2011).

So, as soon as you pass the regen day for a certain country, save the game, load it in genie scout, go to search and tick 'regens only' and Potential Rating 75+ (or something) then you can find the best regens easily. On their first day, the new regens will appear with a sale value and value of 0, but the clubs will ask more money in game

Personally, I prefer to sort on PA and then look at PR, as PR is not perfect and can increase with up to 10% during the development of a player.

Using this method, you are certain to be ahead of your friend at all times, unless he finds out which player you are after and offers him a better contract :p

Also, some players (especially brazilian) will appear with a different name in Genie Scout than in the game (brazilian youngsters tend to have Arabian names). So sometimes you will have to look up the team and check for position/value. (Once you locate the player, you can give him his name as a nickname and then he will appear with that name in Genie)

Thanks for the helpful tips, but not sure if this explains why the player wasnt on my list but appeared top with the best ratings once he signed him. We both would of been looking at the same saved game data. Can the potential ratings change what signed? If so, how would i find them if they dont appear on my list.

Potential Ability can NOT change. Potential Rating, however, can. So don't forget to check potential ability as well, as potential rating can change up to 10 percent-points for players who can still improve a lot.

I think he didn't appear because he wasn't in the game yet. Each year, at each of the dates listed in my previous posts, regens appear at clubs in the countries also listed above. So it could have been that at the moment you looked, the player wasn't in the game yet. So make sure you use genie scout at those dates to find new stars before your friend does

be careful with these PA-ies! with the wrong guidence the player sometimes won't reach even the 150 CA in his career.. even tho his potential is 190 or so!

which means:
- loaning him to weak clubs in not-playing leagues or even in the 2nd division (if your team is in the 1st division)
- you'll have to be lucky in having him injury free...
- give him enuogh playing time even if he's not good enough to play so often!

if you find such a player then sign him asap, let him play in your youth squad, and as soon he becomes a decent 1st division player make him a rotation player, try to bring him in at least 15 games during the season, not neccesery in the starting line-up, but give him at least 15-20 minutes in these games, and when he starts bringing remarkable performaces in a few games in a row, then push him in the first team squad and he'll improve remarkable after that, that's how he'll reach his full potential.

and there's another suggestion that I haven't met on any forum:

if your 180+ player has (let's say: ) 18 - finishing rating, let him train this ability even harder... why? I saw on genie scout that they've put Khouma Babacar's (maximum) finishing ability 18, but in my team his finishing is 19 all the time! keep your eye on this... it's very helpful

Hi thanks for this information. But he seems to be doing something else. We have just started a new game (he is Man Utd) and the first player he signs is Cazorla of Villareal. On the save data when we started the game he had CA 154, PA 161 and PR 81.34%, since he signed him after 2 weeks and game saved. When i open the new save game data, Cazorla is now showing stats of CA 184, PA 191, PR 87.55%. Can anyone please explain how he is doing this?

I would only suggest to avoid massive changes, the game is quite good as it is...

oh I totally disagree! I love FMRTE, mainly cause I put my nephews in the game and edit them to the ability I match them at which ever club I'm at, it make it fun when you see some one you know do a killer pass or score a cracker!

Also Genie scout isn't fool proof, big teams can get that player ya after and he don't always fit your team

Thanks for your replies. I am in agreement with Cruz, what makes the game enjoyable is its realistic nature. So spending time searching and scouting players are all part of the fun. Obviously my mate, would rather cheat than get involved in the knitty gritty of football management. Suppose i'll have a biggest interest in the game trying to beat the cheater fairly.
