I have been playing FM2011 for 11 seasons now, and have numerous saves on my laptop. They all open fine on that, and I can continue playing any of them if I want.

I have now purchased a PC as well, and installed the game on that as well.

However, I can't open the save games on the PC. It gives the common "the saved game can not be loaded" error.

I am copying the saves from the my documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2011/Games file on my laptop and pasting them in the equivalent file path on my PC.

I can still play the files on my laptop, so I am assuming they are not corrupt (at least the original files aren't)

I get the same error whichever save game I try to load.

Can someone please explain why I can't open the files, or what I need to do to play them on my PC?
I suppose your laptop is a Macbook then, but anyway the game is cross platform and the savegames should work regardless.

What about the FM version on your Windows machine though? If you haven't patched that and your savegames from the laptop are of later version, that could probably be the issue. I mean if your savegames are 11.3 and FM on your Windows machine is unpatched 11.0 I believe that's the reason.

So your best bet is to download and install latest patch and try loading your games again.
Thanks for the reply Stam.

Both my laptop and PC are Windows 7 and are 11.0. I havnt installed any patches or updates.

Any other ideas?

If you play the game through Steam on your laptop it should have been automatically upgraded to the latest patch though. Can you rule this out too?

Just in case get and apply the latest patch for your new desktop computer, as it supports loading savegames from earlier FM11 versions. Nothing to lose trying it really.

Update:
Another suggestion could be to delete the folders "cache" and "settings" at the following path and then restart the game:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourWindowsUsername\Application Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2011\
Updating to the latest patch worked.

Thanks so much Stam
