The Beginning

In shock developements, Borussia Dortmund have sacked manager Jurgen Klopp, the man who led the team to the 2010/11 Bundesliga title, thus also ensuring qualification for the Champions League.

The man the Dortmund board have chosen to succeed Klopp is the young English manager Joe Smith, a player with past international experience.

A bold decision, but will it pay off? Stay tuned to find out...

Tranfer Hopes

With a tiny transfer budget and, in my opinion, very limited back up, the strength in depth of this squad could be a problem. I also notice that there are no full time central midfielders in the squad but lots of defensive midfielders and attacking ones.

So, the main positions I would aim to recruit in are:

GK: Weidenfeller may be good enough for a season, but he may not be good enough to build a footballing dynasty over a period of time, so Marc Andre ter Stegen or someone of that age or of very high quality will be thoroughly scouted to look for as a good gk for the next few years

RB+LB: Piszczek is a good full back, and i reckon i will probably use him as my regular right back throughout the season, as is Schmelzer at lb, who again i will hope to use regularly this season, but the cover is limited in my opinion, so someone like vrsaljko will be looked at for right back, and maybe pieters from psv for the left side, who i hope will be able to cover a bit at cb.

CB: Hummels and Subotic- two world class centre halves. But the cover is santana... one player. need more, but cant be so good that he wants regular match action because i want to be playing hummels and subotic. At the moment, Hubschmann from Shaktar looks a decent proposition, or Verthongen, who can also cover a few places.

CM: no full time centre mids at the moment, but i wont really need them in my formation i want to use this season (4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-2-1), but someone like badelj could be a maybe.

RW: gotze, kagawa and leitner are clearly going to be the best attacking midfielders going in a few years time. gotze and kagawa are going to be starting every match they can (at least ones that arent dead rubbers), but leitner, in my opinion, will not be figuring much this year, because if i am to be playing gotze at left wing, i need a real, pure winger on the right side, which leitner isn't, so he shall be heading out on loan this season (i hope).

Key Players

Mats Hummels

Neven Subotic

Sven Bender

Mario Gotze

Shinji Kagawa

Robert Lewandowski

These are the players I hope to base this season, and probably a few more, around, and they are the players I hope will guide me to success in a few tournaments, and you can see my aims for the tournaments in my next post...

Aims for the Season 2011/12

This season, I will be competing for the Bundesliga, Champions League and the German Cup (I am of the belief that there is only one domestic cup competition for in Germany as opposed to two in England), as well as the German Super Cup, where I believe I am facing Schalke.

Anyway, here's what I am hoping for:

Bundesliga: 3rd/4th minimum. I have told the board I think that I can get into the Champions League again, and they have responded by giving me a feeble budget of just above £2m. I hope to avoid getting humiliated by the big German sides and hope for at least a point off Munich and Schalke.

Champions League: Quarter Finals. Obviously, I do not yet know who my opposition is going to be, but I would hope I would get that far at least. However, if i end up getting a first round group of someone like Barcelona, Lille and Arsenal, problems could arise.

German Cup: Winners. A bit of silverware for the fans to enjoy is a must if I am to get a bit of time to build a team to win all competitions on a regular basis.
i dont really understand your signings especially Kara and hubschmann. they dont really add any quality to your side. as dortmund already have a star studded midfield :)

but good luck with your opening game and forthe rest of your season.
don't worry, i am starting this again! you are right- having both hubschmann and kara are just taking up space in the squad. i might just settle for one quality central midfielder. any ideas?
just so you know, i will delete the transfer posts but nothing else so i can start from there instead of starting another story.
I'm really enjoying the look of this exciting new career and hope it goes well for you!

I will defiently be keeping up with this new story! :)

Transfers kick off...

First things first, I wanted to get rid of a bit of dead wood from the squad who I felt were not going to feature very much for me.

The first three players you have felt the effect of the cull are Chris Löwe, Antônio da Silva and Florian Kringe. These players are simply not good enough for what I want to achieve, so they had to go. Lowe has gone on loan for the season to Sporting Lisbon, who have the option to buy him for £2.3m through the loan. Da Silva has gone to Bursaspor for £700k, which I know isn't loads but has freed up a space for a younger midfielder, and Kringe has gone to Hoffenheim for about £900k- he had to go because he was on an incredible £30k per week when I joined- even Kagawa doesn't start on that!!!

One player I'm pondering about letting leave is Leitner. I will not let him go on a permanent deal, but maybe a season of regular first team football would be a good thing for him as I fear I will not be able to give him that. Mainz and Nurnberg are rumoured to be interested...

No signings yet, stay tuned...

Transfers continue...

Markus Henriksen

I felt that this guy would be a decent signing for two reasons: he is a bargain at £3.9m, which i don't think is a lot for a young skilful midfielder, and the second is that I do not have any full time central midfielders and, while the formations I hope to use don't necessarily need them, I hope he can fill this gap when called upon. He won't be playing every game because I don't want to wear him out too soon, but I do want to give him game time so he develops into the world beater my coaches suggest he will become.
Cost: £3.9m (all over 30 months)
Wage: £13.5k p/w

In other news...
Arsenal have spent big on Diego Perroti from Sevilla, forking out £10m for yet another foreigner in the Arsenal squad
Walter Montillo has followed the money from Cruzeiro to Manchester City, who have spent a small fortune of £15.5m to acquire his services
Matheiu Debuchy turned down Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund to sign for a club on the up in Tottenham Hotspur for £4.2m

More news to follow...

Transfers

Sime Vrsaljko

A young, versatile croat, Vrsaljko will give me two good quality right full backs along with Piczcek, and can also cover a couple of positions across midfield. I don't expect that he will be playing every game as I do not want Piczcek getting disillusioned just yet, but I imagine Vrsaljko will be at Dortmund for a long time now, what with him being so young and rumoured by my scouts to become a key player for my team.

Cost: £1.1m (over 18 months)
Wage: £15.25k p/w

In other news...
Borussia Dortmund have been drawn against Schalke 04 in the German Super Cup final
Milan Badelj has joined Malaga from Dinamo Zagreb for just over £3m after turning down Dortmund, who were unable to offer him the wages and signing on fee he desired

Next update will be either my next big transfer signing, or a report of the Super Cup final against Schalke, whichever comes first.

Overall, a very good win for the team, and a trophy to boot. I don't really think you can look at the result to give you much of an idea of how we will do this season due to the fact that Schalke had arguably their best striker sent off so early in the game, but my player ratings were impressive for a first competitive game. I was expecting Schalke's Lewis Holtby to step up more and take me apart, which is what he did on a previous career of mine when I was Liverpool, but no he didn't. Undoubtably the best thing of the match was the superb finishing from Lewandowski- 6 shots, 5 on target, and 3 goals- nuff said.

Transfers

Nene

I bought Nene in simply to give me a bit more depth and experience on the wings. Only on loan at the moment, but with an option to buy. He didn't set the world alight in his debut against Schalke, but we will see how he goes.

A comfortable win for the team in the first round in the cup, but the swines who draw the matches have potentially scuppered my dreams for winning the tournament, as they have pitched me against none other than... Bayern Munich, THE biggest German club side. Marvellous. Anyway, good performance from the team, I didn't think Kuba was that good as he didn't seem to do a lot in the match, but he ended up with a FT rating of 9.4, and you can't argue with that. Impressed with Henriksen, good performance after he came on.

Next Match... Leverkusen, Bundesliga, Away.

Superb start. At first, I thought that a point here would be a good result, especially as Sven Bender got injured for a month the day before the match and he has impressed me so far. But what a start, a Gotze free kick after 10 minutes ensured that the season started well. Kagawa doubled it with a very good solo goal and, despite the fact we conceded midway through the second half, I am very happy with this start. Hummels and Subotic are looking very solid at the moment- god forbid they get injured!!

In other news...
Zenit have signed Liverpool's Maxi Rodriguez for a fee of £5.5m
