Euro 2012: Group C

A win, a draw, and a loss, was enough to see England tide over Group C into the Quarter Finals, with a bit of luck. I get my first loss as England manager against Sweden, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic the heart-breaker.




We finish 2nd, below the Czech Republic who managed to muster first place. I have watched their other games against Sweden and Holland and Petr Cech is an absolutely fantastic goal keeper. Thanks to Cech, Czech didn't succumb to us as we had most of the possession and over 20 shots at goal. Anyway, we've qualified, and that's what matters.


The English FA are happy enough I've managed to guide England into the Quarter Finals, but I'm actually aiming for the Final. High ambitions? Not really. I have a feeling I can do this.

Euro 2012: Quarter Finals

A 3-3 draw against Italy saw us head to penalties, and Jack Wilshere missed his penalty to pave the way for an Italy shootout win.

In a rather dramatic match, we took the lead through Peter Crouch and Darren Bent, but Italy's Mario Balotelli equalized with a spectacular brace. We went one up again through Crouchy's diving header but Balotelli completed a hat trick to equalize. We eventually lost to the Azzuri in the shootout, which is quite a disappointment. I am not very happy as my aim was to reach the Final, and I will start considering if Jack Wilshere deserves a spot in the team.

And well, that is the end of our Euro 2012 journey - another trophy gone. The Olympics are up next and hopefully I can steer Great Britain to something big.

Back to Malaga for Neville... for now

Gary Neville was seen in Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport today as he returned from England and the national team's pursuit of Euro 2012, which ended in the Quarter Finals after being cruelly slain by Italy in a penalty shootout.

The Englishman will return to club business for now and will fly back to England in a month to assume his role as Great Britain U23s head coach for the Olympics.

Malaga chairman Abdullah Al-Thani is said to be looking for a buyer as his disinterest in Malaga grows.

Meanwhile inside the club, Sebastian Fernandez has returned to Malaga after Bolton decided against keeping hold of the Uruguayan striker permanently. Brazilian full-back Crystian has returned to Santos with his loan contract at Malaga expiring, and so has English winger Marc Albrighton and Argentine Alberto Costa, back to Aston Villa and Valencia respectively.

Weligton and Victor Ruiz has been released after their Malaga contracts expired earlier this week.

Belgium win Euro 2012

Belgium have won the Euro 2012, miraculously, with goals from Radja Nainggolan and Romelu Lukaku helping the Belgians triumph over Spain in a 2-1 win. Gerard Pique scored a late consolation goal for the Spanish.

Neville's wheeling and dealing

Neville has made rather good use of the time he had in Spain.

Before leaving for his homeland to take charge of the Great Britain team, he has already completed a spectacular eight transfers into the club, and twelve transfers out.

James Ward-Prowse
The 17-year-old English midfielder joins on a free transfer after leaving relegated Southampton at the end of the Premier League season. Tipped to be the next Paul Gascoigne, Malaga certainly have a wonder kid on their hands.



Alberto Costa
27-year-old Costa joins on a 3 million permanent deal after impressing heavily during his six-month spell at Malaga where his assists helped Los Boquerones clinch fifth place in La Liga.



Asier Illarramendi
22-year-old Spaniard Illarramendi joins from Real Sociedad for 6 million and is tipped to be a possible first-team player for the Spanish national team in the future.



Matthew Lowton
After flopping in his first season at Aston Villa after joining from hometown club Sheffield United, Lowton was offered to clubs and Malaga snapped up the 23-year-old Englishman on loan.



Federico Macheda
20-year-old Italian striker Macheda plays for the Reserves at Manchester United and wants more first-team game time, hence a loan move to Malaga.



Jesse Joronen
Released by Fulham in the summer, 19-year-old Finnish keeper Joronen was soon recruited by Gary Neville on a free transfer and he will play backup to Wilfredo Caballero.



Danny Wilson
Another loan signing, 20-year-old Scottish defender Wilson, comes in from Liverpool on loan to cover first-team defenders Demichelis and Forlin after a very impressive loan spell at Brighton last season.



Ignasi Miquel
Last but not least, 19-year-old Spaniard Ignasi Miquel is brought in from Arsenal. 'The next Raul Albiol' joins for a fee of 5 million, with Arsenal surprisingly willing to sell.



With all the new signings, some players are also shown the door.

32-year-old veteran defender Weligton and 17-year-old Victor Ruiz was released by the club on free transfers.

Ruben completed his move away from Malaga as he joined up with Real Sociedad for a fee of 650k. Ivan Gonzalez, farmed out on loan to Real Madrid Castilla before Neville's arrival at Malaga, is sold to Cesena for 600k. Another player loaned out before Neville's arrival is 30-year-old Portuguese striker Edinho, and Neville has made the decision to sell him to Las Palmas for 500k.

Sebastian Fernandez, returning from his unsuccessful loan spell at Bolton, links up with Real Sporting for 500k. Club icon and captain Duda also leaves the club, much to the fans' dismay, to Levante for 1 million. Spanish full-back Sergio Sanchez is sent off to Granada for 2 million, while attacking midfielder Diego Buonanotte lands himself at Deportivo for 2 million as well. Last but not least, Jeremy Toulalan is sold to Germany's Bayer Leverkusen to make way for extra transfer funds, for the fee of 5 million.

Malaga takeover to commence

Malaga are in the process of a takeover, with local businessman Francisco Pernia ready to take control of the club. Current owner, Qatari businessman Abdullah Al-Thani, has reportedly lost interest in Malaga and is looking for a buyer to replace him as chairman. Pernia is believed to be ready to invest funds to wipe out the club's debts.

Al-Thani to remain as Malaga chairman

In latest news, Francisco Pernia has reportedly pulled out of the bid to take over Malaga. Talks between Qatari chairman Abdullah Al-Thani and Pernia had supposedly not gone down well. This will come as bad news to Malaga fans, with Gary Neville understandably refusing to sign an extension to his two-year contract at La Rosaleda, which ends at the end of the season, until the boardroom issues are resolved.
