Cleaning the Ranks
I'm the sort of man, that has to have everything perfect in my eyes before I start doing it. Take something, like, managing a football team, such as, erm, York City. I have to have the Training Schedules, Tactics, and the players I want in and out perfect, I'm going to make sure that does happen. So, starting with the staff.
Staff
At the level of football I am currently managing, I don't want world class coaches, for one I can't afford them, but mainly the reason being I don't need quality coaches to make my first team players better, I want more of the money being spent on developing the facilities for youth and better youth coaches, rather than spending it all on one coach who can teach every player one thing effectively, any manager at this level wold be stupid to do so. The staff setup previously here was OK in all aspects that needed covering. I just needed to bring in a Goalkeeping Coach, and couple of Scouts. Scouts would be an important part of getting the right players in to secure my target; promotion. Now onto the team report, transfers into the club, and out of it...
Players
Decent transfers in, got some good bargains from the loans, and quality and experienced players from the Free Agents List. I hope they contribute this season. The squad that was here before was OK in most parts, I felt I need another keeper, as Musselwhite was either staying as a coach, or being released, an after rejecting the offer for a Goalkeeping Coach, he was set free. I'm still looking to offload a few players in defense and elsewhere, but we'll see what players come in.
Team and Staff Meeting
I purposely didn't hold either a staff or players meeting before transfers we're completed as I didn't want all the players and staff worrying that they could be on their way out. So I left it until Now...
Sleightholm: (Looks towards players) "Morning boys,
(Looks towards staff) and gentlemen."
Mixed Voices: "Morning Boss!"
Sleightholm: "I just want to go over Training today, you all know the
Tactics, well you should anyway. Firstly I want to say that only allow rests after the match whatever your performance. You
WILL work your arse's off throughout the week until the next game, if I feel you have worked hard enough, and had a good previous game, I will maybe allow a rest before and after.
(Everyone's faces light up) Throughout Pre-Season we will mainly work on learning the tactics, and fitness. Then depending on the performances in the friendlies we'll change it to what is necessary. That is all I have to say for now. Thank You."
Gee: "I will make sure the staff understand this and put it into practice."
Sleightholm: "Thanks Darron,
(Addressing Players) any of you have anything to add?"
McGurk: (Addressing Sleightholm) "Who are the Captains this season?"
Sleightholm: (Replying to McGurk: "Well, you David, are going to be the Vice-Captain, and I'm happy to announce that Chris Smith will be the captain this season."
(All the players jump on Chris, cheering and shouting, and congratulating him.
Sleightholm: (Laughing) "Right boys, enough of that, of to training now."
(Everyone leaves, Gee closes the door behind him...)
All I had to do now was, officially announce myself as the manager. I had that press conference in about an hour, I had to get ready for it...
