Guess it was a curse to sit on the bench in Manchester for so long. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned for other footballers in this story. :)

Yeah true. Only a few players today play for the playing time not the pay cheque. Good bit of business by Betis too, I have to say.

This is especially true for young players because the need playing time and not a fat bank account. The only problem is that those young players are also mentally very venerable and should be properly surrounded with people who mean the best for them and want to fill there pocket quick on their back.

That's one of the reason's I'm not that happy with the Chelsea and other big teams approach to young talented players from 'smaller' teams they steal them and let them most of the time rot in reserve or youth team.

The should put a rule on that. or maybe the parents of those players should use a more common sense than just the size of theirs and their son bank account.

I think this is why Thomas Ince (Blackpool) has been such a success. He was smart enough to trade reserve team football at Liverpool for first team at Blackpool and bam he is one of the hottest properties n England.
HAHA Good to see Balotelli was at Arsenal :P

Knew about that (sort of), just never seen it used in football before.

That was a bit of a surprise.

Guess it’s more used in American sports

Thomas Ince could properly afford to take another approach than most other young players looking for their first pay-day.

But I very much agree that the clubs need to come up with a better system to groom youngsters. Not many promising youngsters will make it in FM13 either if left on the B-team to develop.

Yeah so many are just getting wasted in the B teams or reserves. Jack Rodwell made a terrible decision moving to City this summer, same with Scott Sinclair.

The story of Cédric Pochat

I was afraid that the three losses to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Real Betis, even if expected, would be the start of another tailspin but instead we bounced right back the week after getting battered by Real Betis with a quality on the road againt Athletic Club Bilbao. Goals by Andi Qosa and Teodoro Bañare gave us the win after the Blbao team had pressed us almost inn to our own goal for long stretches of the match.

The point from the Bilbao game did come with a price as French midfielder Cédric Pochat was injured. The doctors diagnosed the injury as a hip injury and ruled him out for two to three months. That was a big blow for a young player on the way up.

Just a few months earlier I had been just a click on "send-email" away from sending Cédric Pochat back to France.

When he arrived from GF38 for a then C.D. Constància record transfer fee of €2.4M the expectation was that he would be able to beat Francesc Fullana for the place in the starting lineup as the central attacking midfielder.

But he has struggled from the start and he had not produced much in his time with the club and his playing time had been limited.

The lack of playing time made him upset and worried for a long time and he had finally handed inn a transfer request at the end of last season and I didn’t see much need in keeping him around if he didn’t want to be here, especially not when he didn’t produce anything on the field.

Several teams showed interest right away when he was transfer listed and the talks with French Ligue 1 team Valenciennes FC was done and just needed to be confirmed when I got second thoughts.

A last look at his files and some confirmations from the coaching staff changed my mind. The fact that our regular starter in the central midfield Alberto Orefice and Edi Curri had also just gone down with injuries was of cause also a factor.

When the team had returned from the summer break I called Cédric Pochat in to my office but instead of telling him that I had decided to sell him and ship him back home to France I told him that I wanted to keep him and that I was willing to give him a chance in the first team and a chance for him to prove that he belonged in the starting lineup. At first he didn’t want to listen but when he left the office I had convinced him to at least give it a chance for the remaining of the season.

From the start of the season he was the starter in the central midfield, normally with Alberto Orefice or veteran legends Sergi Compoy or David Karg beside him and his game improved. He was not a dominant force but his stats were improving and he showed some of the potential I had once seen glimpses of on his original scouting report.

But now with at least a two month break and a bad hip the career of Cédric Pochat was once again in a limbo.
Some tough results but you always bounce back so I'm sure that will happen and you'll get to push on and keep getting stronger
Onwards and upwards mate! So, have did you have a good "Curri"...AHA! You see what I did there? :P
Last updates were great mate! As a Milan's fan, well, to see Balotelli go down like this is sad to me... But his story, and in particular the way you told us it, was amazing! :)

It might not look like it but we are doing better than last season.

Thanks for reading Rablador
Surprised it took so long for someone to go there.
Now I will have to play Mr. Chili on the AMR next week.

Glad you enjoyed it. Have tried to change the updates a bit more toward being person driven instead of just the rambling about results and league standings.

Looking ahead

The next four weeks we gathered another five points after a fantastic 4-1 home win over Granada CF and another point in a wild 5-5 game against Ray Vallecano.

Diego Batista had a fantastic game with three goals and had now scored 18 for the season in the LIGA BBVA and was only behind Real Madrid’s Lucas Ocampos and two other players on the top scorer list. Add another 8 assists and it was not a bad season at all for a largely unknown 24 year old Brazilian valued at a mere €300K.

With just seven more rounds to be played in the LIGA BBVA our season was close to over. We had gathered enough points to avoid relegation once again but we were also to fare behind the top teams to have a realistic chance of getting in to a fight for a place in Europa next season.

Instead the remaining games of the season would be used to evaluate what players to go forward with next season and what players who had played out there role in Inca. I now felt that C.D. Constància had established themselves in the LIGA BBVA and I knew already now that qualification for Europa was my main goal for next season.
I also knew that to achieve that I would have to make some tough decisions and say goodbye to some well-liked players and perhaps even club legends.
With the finances looking healthy I had a secret hope of getting another €5M - €7M in transfer money next season and with that a chance to improve in some key spots.

This year’s European adventure had been a disaster for the seven Spanish teams. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter finals. Barcelona lost to Chelsea in the quarter-finals and was on a run with just a single win in the last six games they played. The spoiled Barcelona fans were not satisfied.
Real Madrid got bounced from the Champions League by Juventus after a humiliating debacle of a 1-6 loss to the old lady in Torino. Their fan base of the Royal club did not enjoy that either.

In the Europa League the results were even more depressing for the Spanish teams, as only Valencia made it to the second knockout round before being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.

In the last two months of the season I had another two teams approaching me about job opportunities.

Athletic Bilbao came at me with a 40M transfer budget and a €950K wage budget while Real Zaragoza in the LIGA adelante offered me €5M for shopping but only €115K in salary budget.

Woah 5-5 don't see that often :O
And good work for staying loyal to Constancia :D
Ouch! That last minute equaliser from Rayo must have hurt! :P
