The first game of the new season at home against RCD Espanyol was another high scoring affair which resulted in a 2-3 loss. The week after we got the first win of the season, on the road against RC Celta.
In the third game of the season I finally got all players in wanted together and almost injury free and we could put the team on the field that I had planned with before the start of the season. Only player not ready to start was Cihan Polat who picked a minor injury in the second game but Pompee Etienne had done very well in the preseason and was ready to step inn as his replacement.

With a lot of new players joining the team it was no surprise that several players were cranky and easily upset.
Andi Qosa was already starting to show diva attitudes again. I did not appreciate that he told the press that C.D. Constància was not big enough for him. With several new midfielders arriving in the off-season Cédric Pochat was also upset again and unclear if he wanted to stay in Inca.
To make the soap-opera complete, R.C.D Mallorca who was back up in the top division after winning the LIGA adelante the year before, decided to make a transfer offer for our number one striker Teodoro Bañares.

We promptly rejected the offer (€1.33M) but it didn’t take long before Teodoro Bañares agent was walking in to my office demanding a new and improved deal for his client.
Before the transfer window closed R.C.D. Mallorca had upgraded the offer twice and were now willing to pay €2.8M for our top striker. If we decided to sell we would not only make a profit of €2.8M but also shatter the clubs previous record transfer of 1.7M for Diego Batista.
With Diego Batista already gone I had no intention selling Bañares and hell would freeze over before I sold my best striker to the evil empire just down the road. We refused the offer and instead sat down with Bañares and his agent and renewed his contract until 2025 now with a base salary of €8.750 per week. A bargain deal.
Before the transfer window closed we added what I hoped to be another pieces to the puzzle. Caio César and Raimond Zonneveld still needed to play more games together but I was sure that only the sky was the limit for them in the future. Still it was painfully clear when Caio César had been away with the Brazilian U-20 team that we needed depth in the central defense. I had now given up on Turkish Ergün Kaya.
Instead we signed Manuel Elizalde from Valladolid. He was a player for the future. He was a just 18-year old left footed Spaniard that could play both central and left defends. A strong hardworking youngster that could dominate in the air.

In the last minutes before the transfer window closed a well-known name from the past came flashing up on my computer screen. Eloy Àlvarez had been transfer listed by Córdoba CF and his agent were now looking for a new club. It was unclear what he had done to make himself unpopular with his current team this time around but it was enough to make him unwanted by the club and relegated to the Córdoba B-team.
For a second the thought of bringing him back crossed my mind. Then I remembered him standing just outside my office lying about wanting to stay in Inca, when he had already refused to sign a new deal and agreed upon a deal with Córdoba CF.
I quickly shook the thought of bringing him back to Mallorca out of my head.
Spain becomes the first European team to qualify for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar with a win over Scotland in the qualifying. Much were still to be decided but it didn't look likely that any C.D. Constància player would be selected to play football in Qatar. We now had several players regularly playing for their national teams but I was still waiting for the first Spanish C.D. Constància player to get an international on any level.
One player in form to make an appearance on his national team was Francisco Monti. In the first four games of the season he had scored four goals also had three assists and a 7.90 AvR.
Another player that looked like a good investment early in the season was Italian youngster Adolfo Giovannini. The young player could be used both as an AML and a striker. But what was most intriguing about him was his free kick abilities. After every training he stayed on the field with a net of balls and worked on his free kicks. And it clearly paid off as his fantastic freekick attributes (20) gave the team a new weapon we had never had before and Adolfo Giovannini had already scored twice in the three first games on direct free kicks.
