Sydney FC was established in 2004 and is known as ‘Football’s Capital’ due to the fact that Sydney boasts the greatest number of football participants than any other city in Australia. The Sky Blues are one of the most successful clubs in the brief history of the Hyundai A-League, participating in five of the seven A-League finals series, being crowned Champions twice and Premiers on one occasion. This year see's the inclusion of a new Sydney based team the Western Sydney Wanderers which promises to be a fierce rivalry between the two Sydney based teams and everyone is looking forward to the first local derby.

Breaking news! Ian Crook has shocked the Hyundai A-League world by calling it quits before he even got started, his reasoning being that he does not feel he is the right man to bring success back to the sky blues and has made the very hard decision to step down. Rumors are already circulating about who his replacement will be with the media predicting a high profile foreign manager will be the most likely option the sky blues management will take.

Very nice intro man! Am looking forward to this story, good luck!

SYDNEY FC chief executive Tony Pignata says there's been interest from around the world for the vacant coaching position following Ian Crook's shock resignation. Sydney won their two A-League titles under the guidance of foreigners; German World Cup winner Pierre Littbarski in 2006 and Czech Vitezslav Lavicka in 2010.

English manager Harry Redknapp is reported to be interested in the vacant position in Sydney and moves into the favorite position to take the job followed closely by Frank Farina and Ernie Merrek.
Pignata was asked to comment his reply was "We have someone in mind, someone you may not have even heard of. All will be revealed in the coming days"

The Appointment
SYDNEY FC chief executive Tony Pignata today has revealed the sky blues new mystery manager as a very young inexperienced man from Orange, NSW. 25 year old Mitchell Leathem. As the press sat there in complete shock the awkward silence was broken by Four Four Two magazine's Emma Stoney who simply asked "Why?"

"Mitchell had what would have been a very promising playing career until he had a accident which has left him unable to run, his desire for football was not effected and he took up a coaching job in the State league division 2 with Bathurst 75's and guided them to 6th from wooden spoon favorites. He has impressed me with his knowledge and passion, everyone who has became great got there chance once and here I am giving Mitchell Leathem his chance at greatness and I have no doubts that he will succeed. To the fans simply trust me on this one I understand this may come as a shock but i believe we have a world class manager in the making please give him your full support. That will be all for now thanks"

First day at the office

My first priorities will be to get a complete evaluation of the team and get the coaching side of things sorted out to a higher standard

Squad

I have decided to transfer list 3 players which includes the hardest decision I will probably have to make for a while.
Terry Mcflynn (C) - Nathan Sherlock - Joel Chianese
Transfer listing Terry was a hard decision but he did not play well last year and I think the best of him has past so it's time to go. The other two I just don't see them at the club in the future.

Coaches

I decided to mutually terminate Craig Duncan (Fitness coach) and Zeljko Kalac (Goal keeping coach) as they have terrible stats and I can easily find better.

I hired 6 new coaches and the ratings are now as followed:
Strength:
Aerobic:
Tactics:
Ball control:
Defending:
Attacking:
Shooting:
Shot stop:
Handling:
So glad to see an Aussie story mate! I was doing a Western Sydney story (though I am a SFC fan) but my fm has screwed
Looks good so far mate
Thanks Jake i seen your story. Its crap when FM screws up and it seems to happen to everyone! I hold my breath when i hit the save button cause its happened to me a few times as well. Hopefully i can do better then how they are really doing at this point in time lol not that i could do any worse then the bottom of the table lol.

Cheers FM Rookie & Manchesterblue97 appreciate the feed back guys :-)
haha yeah not hard at all to beat the current form of the lads. Hopefully you do us Aussies proud in the Football manager world ;)
Great start Jake

Nice to have a different twist with an Aussie story here!
Looking forward to the updates

Transfer news

I have bought in three new signings to strengthen the squad we needed another striker as all we had was Kruno and Del piero so we would be up the creek without a paddle if we got a injured striker.
I also brought in another CM to replace Terry Mcflynn and a experienced DM/CM which will be used with my counter tactic.

Without further ado I present Sydney FC’s new signings:

Utility man Jason Cullina

Defensive rock Grella

Brendan Santalab returns to the sky blue

Transfers out:
Terry Mcflynn departed with us and joined Crewe Alexandra for 100k

Tactics
The main tactic we will be using is 4-2-3-1 with Del piero up front with the instructions to hold up the ball and lay it off to our fast inside forwards, sitting just behind him will be Antonis / Cullina they both have good passing and they will be looking to feed Del piero or directly to the fast inside forwards.

The secondary tactic is our counter tactic which makes do with the AM and adds a DM. This is for our harder away games. Grella will be the DM in this tactic with Grant as his back up.

Our final tactic is a 4-1-2-1-2 this will be used if our wide game isn’t working and a change is needed.

Stay tuned for our pre-season results which will be posted tomorrow.
Good luck mate!

Preseason

24m Grella (Syd 1 - Sharks 0)
72m Del piero - Twisted knee
74m Green (Syd 1 - Sharks 1)

Not the start I had in mind it was a average game from my boys and much improvement is needed if we are going to do any damage in the A-league. To top it off Del piero got injured in the 72 minute he will be out for 4 weeks, thankfully I bought in another striker!

center]
19m Grella own goal (75's 1 - Syd 0)
61m Culina (75's 1 - Syd 1)
70m Santalab (75's 1 - Syd 2)
70m 18 meter screamer - Bruce (75's 2 - Syd 2)

This friendly saw me return to my former club Bathurst 75's and to be honest I was proud of 75's effort since that was the team I built to see them draw with us was a indication that they will do very well this year. On the other hand I am getting worried about my sky blues drawing to 75's should not have happened I am putting it down to rustiness and will be demanding a improvement next game.

30m Pearce (Black 1 - Syd 0)

Ok time to get into the boys after this one, this was my first blast at the team and I think I earned some respect in doing so.

0-0 bore draw.
Not happy at all, I will be changing to the narrow tactic next game.

Injury update

Kruno strained knee ligaments in training expected to be out for 6 weeks. Very glad I bought in another striker!

19m Del piero (Tarra 0 - Syd 1)
33m Giraldi (Tarra 1 - Syd 1)
39m Antonis (Tarra 1 - Syd 2)
57m Bosschaart (Tarra 1 - Syd 3)
75m Del piero top left corner screamer from outside the 18 yard box (Tarra 1 - Syd 4)
Fabio pulled hamstring - Reported after the game expected to be out for 5 weeks.

Much, much better by the boys everyone was fantastic and I will be using the narrow tactic again.

7m Mallia (Han 0 - Syd 1)
45m Antonis (Han 0 - Syd 2)
47m Bosschaart (Han 0 - Syd 3)

We are heading in the right direction now, can't complain about anything in this one.

5m Arrarte (Marconi 1 - Syd 0)
34m Patratos (Marconi 1 - Syd 1)
46m Shevlin (Marconi 2 - Syd 1)
49 Mallia (Marconi 2 - Syd 2)
66m Antonis (Marconi 2 - Syd 3)
67m Santalab (Marconi 2 - Syd 4)

A good win to finish off preseason, moral is now high and the boys look ready to go. I must admit that it was not the best preseason but we were winning games at the right end of the preseason. Stay tuned for my next update in the coming days.
