For The Sake Of Playing

Robert 'Robbie' Kolatowicz never liked Latin. He never understood why he had to take it at school. It just seemed pointless learning a language that was no-one used. But that was years ago. Now It seems Latin might be useful in my life for once...

I liked Football. I always hoped of making it to the big stage of the SPL. I always dreamed of playing at Rangers. But the closest I ever got to Ibrox was 4 years playing for Benburb FC in the Junior leagues. My football career was never Professional except for a few seasons at Partick Thistle. I started at Maryhill FC, then Partick Thistle, then Benburb. I wasn't exactly a Journeyman. I'm now 33, and have no club. I decided to get my coaching badges a couple of years ago but so far I have never had any offers for a Job. That changed yesterday...

My father Mark wanted to see the Third Division table to look at some of the Teams Rangers could be facing. I looked on Sky Sports' website to see the league standings when a Headline to the right caught my eye.

"Gardner Spiers sacked as manager of Queen's Park"

Queen's Park Football Club. Not just a Club, but an Institution. I saw this as my Chance. A chance to get into Football Management for the first time. Sure, I wouldn't get paid because they are an amateur club.

But, like Queen's Park, I play for the sake of playing.

The Boss

Today I am psyching myself up to make the visit to Hampden Park. Scotland's National Stadium. I had written a letter to Ross Caven, the Chairman of Queen's Park and he said he would like to take a closer look at me.

It was at this point I heard my Dad wake up. He had taken me to the Local Lap-dancing club in Town to have a good time and forget about my worries. It did not help at all, especially when I found Dad Handcuffed to some Sort of Naked Dog. My father told me stories about when he was Sexually assaulted by the cast of the Expendables, and How he loved a place called Killymoon in Ireland. He was rambling about something like that, anyway.

I left my Dad to watch Sky Sports News to see if he would catch any updates. I drove to Hampden in my old Citroen Saxo. I then went through the Entrance of Hampden to the Reception desk, Where a young woman was sitting behind the large oak desk.

Me: Hello. I am here to see Ross Caven, the Chairman of Queen's Park. He wanted to see me about the manager's job.

Woman: Okay, I'll go find him.

What? She had to go find him? I knew that there was loads of SFA offices in Hampden, But Seriously, Shouldn't he be in a Large office?

Anyway, the woman came back and told me to go down the corridor, up the stairs, and the first door to the Right. I found it easily enough (Probably because there was a huge Queen's Park emblem on the door but never mind) and knocked on the door.

Caven: Come In!

I entered. I saw that the man was about 6 feet tall, and had a Moustache that commanded respect. How could I forget? It was Ross Caven, Queen's Park's Greatest ever player! I remembered playing against him while at Partick. What a Player! I sat down to discuss everything. We got all the Hello's over with soon enough.

Caven: We are looking for a man who will lead these players by commitment, not money. Do you think you can do that?

Me: Listen, I promise you, I will get into the Second Division!

He looked shocked.

Caven: Are you mad? Rangers are in the same league as us! we'd never get into the second division even without Rangers!

Me: I will get promoted through the Play-offs. You know how good these players are. They have what no other Team has. Players who play for the shirt.

Caven: You'd better be ready.

Me: Why?

Caven: Your first press conference is in an hour!
120 views already? We'll get a thousand quicker than I expected! :)
