Deadline Day

It’s that day once again, and plenty of business is expected to happen. Will Manchester United strengthen even more, after a poor start to the season, in a bid to retain their title, will Manchester City replace the outgoing striker Carlos Tevez, and will the rest of the Premier League be able to buy one player to help them catch the two Manchester clubs.

11.15am Deadline Day – Kinkladze finally gets his man!

After almost a year of pursuing Edinson Cavani, Manchester City manager Georgi Kinkladze has finally got him. Once again Kinkladze has broken City’s transfer record by splashing out £55m on the Napoli man, and his 5 year contract is worth £195,000 a week.

Kinkladze was as always happy to talk to Sky Sports and said “Edinson is a great player, it has took a long time, we have been chasing him all summer but been knocked back but I trusted our board to get the deal done and it is. Edinson offers us everything you could want from a striker, hes strong, quick and his finishing is as good as anyone in the World.”

17.30 Deadline Day – Dzeko heads back to Germany

Manchester City and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement that will see Edin Dzeko move on loan to the German Champions for the upcoming season. After City signing Edinson Cavani, Dzeko would have found his opportunities to play limited and has said to have welcomed the loan move and he hopes his move back to Germany might become permanent, he said “City will always hold a special place in my heart but I want to play football, Bayern is a top club and I’m excited to be here. Hopefully I can impress and who knows, maybe I could stay here”

Deadline Day and Transfer Window Review

Another exciting transfer window has led to some massive deals, and one of the biggest happened on deadline day itself with Manchester City signing Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani for £55m. City also spent £17.5m on defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

Manchester United also made a massive move by signing Marseille centre back Nicolas Nkoulou for £26m and also spent £23.5m on Andriy Yarmolenko from Dynamo Kiev. And they sold Rafael for £12.25m to PSG, which freed up room to bring in Nkoulou.

Arsenal spent big as well by signing Lewis Holtby for £24m and Antoine Griezmann for £21m from Schalke and Real Sociedad respectively.

Sunday 15th September 2013 – Blackpool v Manchester City (Premier League)

On the back of the first International break of the season, City have been hit with a couple of injuries. Firstly, Gareth Bale is likely to miss the Blackpool game after picking up a slight knock but it’s worse for David Silva, who is suffering with a hernia and will miss up to a month of the season.

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Nasri, De Rossi, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Friedel, Zabaleta, Varane, Barry, Milner, de Jong, Bale

Blackpool Starting XI – Gilks, John-Baptiste, Cathcart, Boyata, Johansson; Pekalski, Spearing, Sylvestre; Ince, Phillips, Taylor-Fletcher SUBS – Gerken, Broadfoot, Crainey, Puncheon, Verhoek, Basham, Evatt

Another class performance from City gave them their fourth straight win and their fourth straight clean sheet. Edinson Cavani’s debut went well and he got involved in the game at every opportunity, with Blackpool’s keeper making a great save to keep him out in the first half.

Final Score – Blackpool 0 Manchester City 2 (Nem 38, Kompany 54)

MOTM – Wellington Nem

A stunning performance from City saw them dominate from the first to last minute. City took the lead after 19 minutes with a first goal for Cavani, but Olympiakos made it 1-1 when City’s other new man Varane left a back pass a bit short, but 4 minutes later City had scored twice and the game was over. City did take a negative point from the match, as Gareth Bale strained knee ligaments and will miss between 6 – 8 weeks of the season.

Managers August/September Review

What a start to the season we have had, I genuinely couldn’t be happier. 5 wins from 5 games is a stunning start to the season and made even better by the fact we haven’t conceded a goal. The game against Chelsea was a particular highlight with us beating one of the best teams in the league so convincingly.

In the Cup’s we have been just as dominant, the Champions League started with a brilliant win at home to Olympiakos, although we actually conceded a goal for the only time all season. In the Capital One Cup we played a team of squad players and cruised to a 4-0 win against another Premier League side.

My player of the month is captain Vincent Kompany. A true leader in all senses of the word, his performances at the back have helped us keep 6 clean sheets in 7 games, and he has also contributed 3 goals in the league. Kompany also came runner up in the Premier League Player of the Month award. A mention as well goes to Wellington Nem who won the Premier League Young Player of the Month, Nem’s goal against Blackpool also came 3rd in the Goal of the Month competition, with Matija Nastasic finishing as runner up for the same award.

I am also pleased to receive the Premier League’s Manager of the Month for both August and September. The team have played exceptionally well for me and as always they share this award with me.

2013-01-29 10:32#79262 MCFCDAP : He did ok for me, not great and defo not worth keeping around anyway! i was surprised i got 11.5m for him, i've never seen City be able to sell him!
I once got an offer in January 2013 from Mallorca of £5k. He'd only played once, but we beat Barca when he did, and that's a bit low surely :/

Anyway, great season so far!

Tuesday 1st October 2013 – Barcelona v Manchester City (Champions League Group H)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Nasri, De Rossi, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Friedel, Zabaleta, Varane, Barry, Milner, de Jong, Guidetti

Barcelona Starting XI – Valdes, Alves, Puyol, Pique, Abidal; Mascherano, Iniesta, Fabregas; Sanchez, Alba, Villa SUBS – Olazabal, Montoya, Tello, Xavi, Song, Deulofeu, Pedro

Man City went to the Nou Camp as underdogs and knew they would have to defend well to come away with anything and they did do! City defended as a team, battled together and came away from Spain with a very valuable point.

Final Score – Barcelona 0 Manchester City 0

MOTM – Vincent Kompany

Attendance – 98,046
Great point at Barca! Better season on the cards?! :D

Saturday 5th October 2013 – Aston Villa v Manchester City (Premier League)

MCFC Starting XI – Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy; Milner, Barry, Toure, Nem; Aguero; Cavani SUBS – Friedel, Richards, Varane, De Rossi, Nasri, de Jong, Guidetti

Villa Starting XI – Guzan, Lowton, Dunne, Vlaar, Warnock; Bentley, Lekven, Hosny, N’Zogbia; Bent, Agbonlahor SUBS – Given, Delph, Delfouneso, Hutton, Benteke, Ireland, Baker

City drop their first two points of the season after a very even game at Villa Park. City dominated the first half an hour but an injury to captain Vincent Kompany in the 34th minute seemed to give Villa confidence and they grew into the game from that point. Kompany’s injury won’t lead to him missing any games for City, as an international break will give him time to recover.

Final Score – Aston Villa 0 Manchester City 0

MOTM – Matthew Lowton

Attendance – 39,647

Man City may have conceded their first two goals of the season but it wasn’t enough to stop them registering another win, as goals from Aguero, Cavani and the winner from substitute David Silva kept City on top of the table with an unbeaten record.

Final Score – Swansea 2 (Borven 14, Michu 67) Manchester City 3 (Aguero 11, Cavani 59, Silva 73)

MOTM – Gareth Barry

Attendance – 19,083
