Season Review
Well, it was quite the season for Inter, and despite a few disappointing results I can confidently say this was yet another excellent season. This post will go over the season and the different competitions we were in. Player awards, etc. for the club will be announced at a team dinner early next month.
Supercoppa Italia
We won the Supercoppa Italia for a great start to the season. Mattia Destro was the star, scoring two goals to lead us over a resilient Palermo that we had beaten 5-2 last year in the Coppa Italia final. Credit to them, but we deserved this trophy to set the standard for the season.
Serie A
League Table
This is the final league table. I'm very happy to say that we've won the Scudetto for the third season running, and this year was the most exciting. Our first Serie A loss in 88 games was inflicted upon us by arch rival AC Milan, and for the first time we did not break 100 points, and also Juventus played outstandingly to keep up with us. However, in the end we were too strong and thoroughly deserved this Scudetto.
Statistics
As you can see we also managed to do quite well in terms of statistics. Mattia Destro had an excellent season, scoring 29 Serie A goals, and Andrea Ranocchia had the highest average rating with a ridiculous 7.95. Yann M'Vila also had the highest pass completion rate at 90%, and Andrea Poli finished 5th with 87%.
Team of the Year
I am extremely pleased that we managed to get a massive 5 players in the Team of the Year. Samir Handanovic, Andrea Ranocchia, and Alvaro Pereira all had fantastic seasons, and Gino Peruzzi and Mattia Destro especially burst onto the scene with some fantastic performances over the course of the season.
UEFA Champions League
Group Stage
As you can see we absolutely steamrolled through the group stages of the competition, winning all 6 of our games including impressive away wins against Valencia and Galatasaray.
Knockout Stage
This was by far the biggest disappointment of my career as a manager so far. Going out on away goals to Barcelona was extremely unfortunate, even though we were so motivated to win after last year's disappointment. Barcelona did go on to win the competition, but it little solace. Next season we will hope to bounce back.
Golden Boot: Mario Gomez - 15 goals (Bayern)
Best Player: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Coppa Italia
And this trophy completed our domestic treble, our third straight treble, and our third different treble. We destroyed every team in our path bar Fiorentina, conceding only on goal en route to a brilliant cup win. The board did not care much for the Coppa but I value every competition with great importance and I'm pleased to have won.
