Inter Looking for Big Name Signings
Yesterday Inter Milan manager Giuseppe Bergomi made a big statement about his side's transfer ventures this window, saying that the Nerazzurri will need "proper strengthening" before they can lift the elusive UEFA Champions League.
"We have a very strong side to compete in Italy, but to win the Champions League we need more," said Bergomi. "We are in a much better financial situation now than we were before and so we can afford to properly strengthen the team and make it able to achieve the next step, which is to win in Europe."
Ryad Boudebouz is already joining the club on a free transfer after his contract expired and will be a welcome addition of width, as Inter currently have youngster Raheem Sterling as the only natural wing player. However, Bergomi is supposedly looking at much bigger targets.
The biggest names on the lips of Inter fans are two superstar strikers. The first is Borussia Dortmund striker
Robert Lewandowski. The Polish international is looking to move after Dortmund failed to secure UEFA Champions League football and would be a top class addition alongside Mattia Destro. The second is Napoli's young starlet
Lorenzo Insigne who had an excellent last season with 13 goals and 10 assists in Serie A. If either of these deals were to go through, it is expected Luis Muriel would be shown the door after a disappointing campaign.
Somewhat surprisingly, Inter has also been linked with world-class Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper
Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The young German is considered one of the best young goalkeepers in the world and is supposedly available for 20m euros and would push Samir Handanovic out of the club.
The last addition expected to be made is a new attacking midfielder to prove Philippe Coutinho with better competition. His compatriot Adryan, despite managing 15 assists in all competitions, failed to register a single goal and often looked off the pace. The media expects Bergomi to replace him with Malaga star
Isco, who is available for 20m euros, or one of AZ's
Adem Maher or Celta Vigo's
Iago Aspas.
