Sporting CP - A Journey Back In Time
My Sporting Lisbon story :)
Good start Blue, if this story is half as good as your last one it will still be epic.
Is the stage set for a dramatic introduction to the one and only Lothar Matthaus? I THINK SO :p

Sporting CP Hire Matthaus

Sporting Lisbon have quickly appointed the successor to Jesualdo Ferreira, after announcing the signing of 51-year-old German manager Lothar Matthaus, son of Sporting's legendary manager Lothar Matthaus Sr. who won seven trophies with the Lisbon club, and won every game in charge of Les Leoes.
Many fans were shocked when the Sporting hierarchy sacked new manager Ferreira after just a few weeks in the role earlier this week after letting several of Sporting's key players leave the club, whilst still expecting to challenge big rivals Benfica and Porto for the Liga ZON SAGRES title, which, to many people, was plainly not going to happen under the management of Jesualdo Ferreira.
The board, along with many fans and pundits, also realized this, and quickly set about sacking the manager, and finding a replacement to take them forwards to the future, who turns out to be Lothar Matthaus, who has been out of a job since leaving his post with the Bulgarian national team in 2011. He has also worked with clubs like Partizan Belgrade and Red Bull Salzburg in his career, along with the Hungarian national team, showing that he obviously has pedigree as a manager. During his 11 years as manager, Matthaus has managed to win league titles, in two countries, but has often caused controversy, by accusing the Hungarian FA of not trying to improve the league, and leaving his spell as Atlético Paranaense manager after just seven games, yet still managing to rack up a phone bill of almost $6,000.
Sporting fans, however, are excited about the prospect of the son of club legend Lothar Matthaus Sr. joining the club, and are confident he will exceed his father's achievements at the club, and become part of Sporting folklore. He certainly has a lot to live up to, what with his father having won two European trophies with the club, as well as a domestic treble in his first season, then leaving the club during his second season, after seeing his side beat Italian giants Juventus 3-0 at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Matthaus Jr. is tasked with rebuilding the squad, whilst challenging for domestic honors too, which is a tough task considering the amount of players forced out by Ferreira. The defence is now the weakest area, with former Liverpool defender Emiliano Insua leaving for Liga BBVA side Atletico Madrid, former captain Daniel Carrico leaving for relegation-threatened Barclays Premier League side Reading. This means it will be one of Matthaus' first tasks in charge of the club, and one he is surely up for.
The German manager has been given a 1-year deal, and is rumoured to be on around £7,000 per week. This large wage is hardly helping Sporting's financial situation, which has put a tight stranglehold on Matthaus in terms of buying players. He is expected to try and bring in the cheapest ones he can this summer that will still improve the Sporting squad, before meticulously working to improve the finances at the club over the coming season, in preparation for what he hopes will be a long and successful career with the Lisbon club.
Author's Note: If you don't understand the "Lothar Matthaus Sr. parts of my last update, then fear not! I have an explanation! Yes, I made it up, he didn't really manage the Sporting team, it was merely just a reference to my old Sporting Lisbon story as Lothar Matthaus. Give it a read here: My Old Lothar Matthaus Story.
