7 goals in 34 games?

This just proves sending your players on loan f*cks them up :/

The Pre Season

Preseason is always regarded to be a time to work on players’ fitness and slowly gauge an idea of which players will be guaranteed starters. We had 4 games lined up against different opposition, with 3 relatively easy games and a decent test against Bayer Leverkusen. The match against FC Lorient in the Trophee des Champions was a good competitive match to have in the mixer and it was an easy win for us for our 4th trophy in a row.

The build up to the start of the season was well and truly on and I decided that our transfer business wasn’t done. Carlos Fierro has unimpressed in his last two loan spells, with his latest one yielding only 7 goals in 31 games and I decided it was time to transfer list him. With the young strikers in the youth team as well as the 4 in the first team squad at the moment I simply do not see space for him and I would rather he goes somewhere else to get game time than sit and rot on the bench.

QPR offered €6.75 million for him and this was flat out rejected and since then Southampton have come in with a loan offer for him. This could be his last chance to save his career at Lyon. Macky Bagnack (the defender that joined from Barcelona for only €6,000) has not developed and I doubt he will be a good enough back up as well, especially with Kyle Gonzalez and Luis Martinez Poch in the squad. He has joined Auxerre on loan for the season but I cannot see him staying much longer at Lyon.

As a result of impending departures, I decided to bring in a couple more youngsters and signed Fabiano from Atletico Paranennse for €800,000, Sandro Ferraro from Boca for €3.2 million and Demba Fomba from Auxerre for €1.2 million. Sandro will join at the end of the new season and Demba is now part of the youth squad.

This has settled my mind and I am firmly believe we are ready for the new season, with Auxerre being the first team up we are to play. I can see this squad just getting stronger and stronger and I want us to make retention of the Champions League the main priority.
Sandro Ferraro is as awesome as his name sounds! Unfortunate result aginst Leverkusen though

Happy to see you again mate! :) Good pre-season and first trophy in! Ferraro looks great (I have 2 italian friends with that surname, so I support him ;) ) and Fierro, well, he is not doing bad with my Milan, but he is not definitely a champion in my save... Keep it up! :D

Glad your back - Fierro should have been given a chance under your command, maybe he would improve

Some fantastic regen signings there. Good luck to Carlitos at Southampton :D

Oki: Not too worried about the result against Leverkusen as it was just a friendly and I played loads of youth lads. Some of the regens are class as you'll hopefully see ;)

Paddy: I thought the exact same thing :p

Gambit: Thanks mate! Haha hopefully Ferraro can be awesome! Fierro hasn't done well on loan but I want to give him a chance but I just don't want other strikers to get annoyed

Kopite: I have 4 strikers that have done better in every season and I just can't keep a 5th striker which would be Fierro :(

Glenn: If he impresses at Soton then he could save his career at Lyon. If not he will be gone :p
Brilliant signings, dem regens look fantastic! :D

Champions League Group H

A great start to life in the league yet again. Lots of goals all over the team and a 100% run. Obviously there are tougher games to come but we are pleased with how we have begun and we know there are several opportunities to enforce our power over those around us. We have Genoa up next in the UEFA Super Cup, which has shocked me after they have won the Europa League twice in a row! A very winnable game though and I look forward to bringing home the trophy for our fans! And to top it all off we have drawn Manchester City in the Champions League group stages and I am really thinking UEFA is trying to drive me insane!
You have a 'great start' everytime, and it never ends! :P

Allione: From Hero to Zero in the first game :P

Great start, keep up that 100% record! And City in the CL again! I have a feeling these draws are rigged o.O

The UEFA Super Cup

Friday 28th August 2015 – UEFA Super Cup – Mikheil Meshki, Tbilisi – Att. 25,453

Arvind Krishna: Good evening and welcome to FMScout Sports 1. It is that time of year today where we have the two winners of the European club tournaments battle it out. Olympique Lyonnais won their first ever Champions League in May beating Liverpool in the dying moments while Genoa won their 2nd consecutive Europa League trophy after beating German side HSV. None other than English commentating legend and life long Manchester United fan Kane Brooker joins me. Hello there Kane how are you?

Kane Brooker: Good evening Arvind it’s a pleasure to be here and I am looking forward to this match up. At the start of last season nobody could have imagined these two teams would be playing in the Super Cup match but here we are!

Arvind: Olympique Lyonnais have already won the Trophee des Champions in France and got off to a strong league start. Surely they will just have too much for Genoa.

Kane: Well you say that but Genoa have players capable of causing the Lyon team some problems, especially Mattia Destro. The line-ups have just come in and lets take a look.

Arvind: Genoa have opted for the traditional 4 – 4 – 2 and look to get the ball forward quickly through to Destro and Gilardino. Lyon look to be set up a bit more defensively with the anchor man but I think this will benefit them because with the midfielders they have, they could very well control the game. Kwadwo Asamoah has looked sharp since joining the club and is expected to have a strong game today.

Kane: It looks like Lyon are the stronger team easily on paper but Genoa wouldn’t have won the Europa League if they weren’t good enough! Right it is approaching that time so let me hand over to the commentator Glenn Tham.

Glenn: We have just had the national anthems played and both sides are ready for kick off. Lyon will start and will be kicking from right to left in this first half.

1’ – We’re off. Stuart Pearce has been seen in the stands and is checking on Tom Ince, Will Hughes and John Ruddy it seems - 3 big players for Lyon tonight.

5’ – The first real chance falls to danger man Destro who hits it straight at Ruddy and he holds on to the ball. Warning signs early on for Lyon.

8’ – GOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAZZOOOOOOOOO. Maxime Gonalons pounces on a rebound off the Genoa keeper and slots it in to the corner from just in front of the penalty spot. Lyon reply and take the lead 1 – 0.

11’ – Allione picks up the ball wide on the right just inside the Genoa half and runs at left back Ghoulam. He dazzles him and glides past before cutting inside and a fancy stepover takes him past Polenta and he smashes it home!!!!! 2 – 0 already and Lyon in complete control.

30’ – Genoa keeper Perin has just pulled off an outstanding save from a half volley taken by Benzia. It was great technique from the young French striker and Perrin was at full stretch and tipped it over the bar. Lyon all over the Italians and they have no reply.

45’ – Half time. Genoa 0 – 2 Lyon. A great display of attacking football from Lyon and Genoa just can’t handle it.

45’ – The second half gets underway and lets see whether Genoa’s manager can impact his teams’ performance.

59’ – A slow start has picked up after Genoa won 2 corners in quick succession but couldn’t make anything of the opportunities and John Ruddy gathers and calms things down.

75’ – Gilardino has his head in his hands and rightly so after sending a header from 6 yards straight at John Ruddy who holds comfortably. It was a big chance to get back in to the game and Lyon perhaps let off there.

78’ – Lyon make two changes with Umtiti coming on in place of goalscorer Gonalons and Younes Belhanda on for Kwadwo Asamoah.

86’ – That is one of the best crosses I have ever seen from a centre back. Prince Boateng is passed the ball about 10 yards away from the corner of the box and pings it to the back post where Tom Ince rises and heads home. 3 – 0 to Lyon and game over!

90+2’ – There goes the full time whistle and Allione has run Genoa ragged on that right side. He looks like an absolute world beater and at the age of 20 there are great things to come from him and many of this Lyon team.

Glenn: Well that’s it from me here. It’s back to Arvind and Kane in the studio. Until next time!

Arvind: Remi Garde continues this recent tradition at Olympique Lyonnais and is bringing home another trophy to add to the growing collection. He has set about to create a legacy and that is exactly what he is doing.

Kane: It seems he is a tactical mastermind and has outwitted several managers. It will be a challenge for them to retain the Champions League but I know he and his squad have the ability.

Arvind: Well that wraps up the UEFA Super Cup for another year. Thanks to Kane for joining us today and to Glenn for the commentary. Until next time, goodnight.
