COUPE DE LA LIGUE

FC Nantes v Auxerre

Welcome to the Stade Louis Fonteneau for today’s Coupe de la Ligue clash in between two 2nd division giants. Special attentions drawn to Filip Djordjevic who returns to the starting Line-up and Hector Bellerin who earns his debut. Kofi Djidji also starts ahead of the injured Ahmed Madouni. The winner of this clash will face either Metz or Le Mans in the second round so it’s all to play for!

0 – We’re under away in what looks to be a tasty encounter.

6 – Bellerin finds Gakpe down the line that is shut out by the defence. The Togolese comes inside for Deaux. Deaux has some space to run into and he hits it! GOOOOAAAALLL!!!! Deaux fires a fierce left footed shot into the top left corner from 25 yards out! His first for the club. What a start for Nantes!

HALF TIME – And Nantes are looking good value for money here. Auxerre may have to change things at half time if they are to come back here.

45 – The ref signals the restart.

89 – Langil steps up for Auxerre to take this free kick from 30 yards out. He takes IT!... Very good save from Riou who looks to be setting the COUNTER ATTACK HERE with Ghezzal. Auxerre get back in numbers and Ghezzal has dwelled on the ball for far too long. Still the Algerian, finds Veretout who slaloms his way INTO THE BOX! IT’S IN! Jordan Veretout with some great close control steers it into the bottom right corner. It’s game over for Auxerre.

FULL TIME – Nantes get the win they so deserved and will face Metz in the second round.

Karembeu on the game: “We knew it would be tight but we aimed to dominate possession and it worked. We were quite fortunate to score so early and then later on but I felt we were always the better side.”

PORTO SNATCH GAKPE

FC Porto has finally agreed a £3.4m deal for Togolese international Serge Gakpe from FC Nantes.

The winger will join the Portuguese champions and the start of next week having agreed contract terms with Porto and will play his last game in Nantes colours versus Stade Lavallois on Saturday.

Porto are believed to have previously lodged a £1.6m bid as well as Lille but Nantes managed to receive over double his value.

Despite his sadness, Nantes boss Christian Karembeu has expressed his delight for the winger’s transfer.

“Serge is a good lad and a key player to us but I’m in no position to reject that sort of money for him and deny Gakpe of the move of his career.

“We’ve done well to get the money we got for him and I wish him the best of luck for the future.

“I’m not sure we will re-invest in the squad as we will have that slot empty here but that’s something I’ll have to see in the future with the chairman. I remain confident in the quality of my players.”

RIOU INJURY ROCKS NANTES

FC Nantes has been dealt an early blow to their season following the injury to their number one keeper, Remy Riou.

The French shot stopper sustained torn knee ligaments during a training session and is likely to be out for 2-3 months.

Slovakian backup Lubos Kamenar will be the more likely option to step in between the posts.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Filip Djordjevic – 5 goals, 5 appearances

Karembeu’s thoughts: “We’ve had a great month. We started it quite slowly but got 4 points out of 6 in which I felt we really struggled. There’s no better place to be at the moment other than first and I’m delighted to say that’s where we are but it’s very early in the season. We still have many games ahead of us.”
Great month Paddy! Ligue 1 beckons!
Nice job on the perfect month Paddy!
You're scoring loads of goals! Nicely done mate. Well done on staying unbeaten. Keep it up and you'll be in Ligue 1 in no time

Thank You all.

Had a bit of a slow start but things somehow patched together after the cup game v Auxerre.

Keep the feedback and reflections coming as it helps me out a lot. Even if you just wanna say you've been to Nantes on holiday lol. Any feedback means a lot to me.

Yeah, strange Transfer window. Ajax spent over £100m. On the other hand, Barcelona & Real Madrid bought nobody (not that they need to).

NANTES SNAP UP BRAZILIAN

FC Nantes have made good use of the Joker transfer window after signing the versatile Brazilian wide man Romulo from Fiorentina.

Karembeu agreed a £1.5m deal for Romulo with the Italian outfit as his one eligible transfer.

The 25 year old looks set to be Gakpe’s replacement after his £3.4m transfer to FC Porto earlier last month and will join Les Canaris on January 1st 2013.

FC NANTES AFTER PIROLITO

FC Nantes are reportedly close to striking a deal with Interclube centre half Pirolito.

The Angolan star, who would cost a sum of £500k, is rumoured to be unhappy in Angola and seeking a move to a bigger club.

Pirolito made an impressive debut for the Angolan national team versus and Libya and has already come out publicly expressing his desire, although he has not revealed the identity of any clubs interested.

Should Pirolito sign for FC Nantes, it could signal an early end to Gabriel Chichero’s loan deal after complaints over the lack of first team football.

Never failed to cause trouble in what was a poor month for the team.

Karembeu – “Not the results we wanted but we must understand we had some difficult games with injuries and suspensions to deal with. We put up a fight and we’ll see some key players such as Deaux and Riou return from injury for some tough games next month. It’s time to put October behind us.”
