Who Are Newton Heath FC?

Newton Heath FC are a side that were in fact created in the editor. They are a spin off of the old Manchester United, who were named Newton Heath LYR from 1878 to 1902. The idea of the team will become clear later on through the story, and you will get to know more about the side, staff, players and background information.

Why Newton Heath?

As many of you know, Manchester United are my favourite side. I have loved them since I have loved football, and recently managed them in Moyes' Boys. However, I became bored of the story, and lost all motivation. The story featured a lot more detail, and a lot more time. Now, I can still use elements of Manchester United (which will become clear soon) while playing almost Lower League Management, meaning updates will be spread out much more to progress quicker over the season.

Targets and Guidelines

To make the story more interesting, and to link with the idea of using Manchester United within the story, I will try to follow some targets and guidelines throughout the story.

My Targets:
  • To gain promotion from League Two
  • To gain promotion from League One
  • To gain promotion from the Championship
  • To win the Barclays Premier League title
  • To lift the FA Cup
  • To lift the Capital One Cup
  • To win a European title
My Guidelines:
  • Every transfer window one former Manchester United player must be signed
  • Any staff must have played or coached for Manchester United
  • Match day squads must have at least 5 British Players

Who Am I?

I will be a Manchester United legend. The Frenchman became known for his skill, infleucne and kung-fu kicking. He began his career with Auxerre, but also played for Marseille, Nimes and Leeds before featuring 143 times for United, in which he scored 64 goals. A former international and beach football manager, who has also been a director of football, I am Eric Cantona.

NOTE: This will be my final FM13 story. I tried international management, but didn't like playing it, so will make this my last story until FM14. I refuse to become one of those 'start a new story every week' members!

Why you not tell us who? I think it will be SAF.
Or maybe it will be Darren Ferguson. But then again it could be you.

Malcolm Glazer Announces New Club

Malcolm Glazer, owner of Manchester United FC and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has announced a third club will be created, and will be playing in the 2012/2013 season. Glazer has announced the new club will play in the nPower League Two, filling in the lost role due to Plymouth Argyle's recent administration issues. After meeting with many Manchester United and Football League representatives, Glazer finally sorted all details in order to be able to play in the upcoming season. The club, Newton Heath Football Club.

Manchester United first started in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR, until the change to Manchester United in 1902. Glazer has stated as this is a new club, he wants to go back to basics, so decided to choose the basic name of Manchester United those many years ago. Glazer has left out the LYR of the name to signify the difference, with the LYR previously representing the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway. Malcolm Glazer also used inspiration from Manchester United in order to build the stadium. New Trafford will have an capacity of 3,500, with 3,000 of those seated. The stadium lacks both a roof and under soil heating.

The club would of course form an affiliation with Manchester United, meaning they could get many players on loan for minimum fees. There may also be regular annual friendlies as part of the affiliation too. Glazer then displayed the new club logo during the unveiling of the kits, based on the designs of the previous Newton Heath colours and kits. The kits will be designed by Nike, while sponsored by mobile phone company Giffgaff.

Newton Heath FC Staff Unveiled

With Newton Heath Football Club recently announced as the newest team to play in the Football League, Malcolm Glazer has now unveiled the staff that will help The Heathians get off to their dream start. The club will start with 8 members of staff, the Chairman, Manager, Assistant Manager, Head of Youth Development, Coach, Goalkeeping Coach, Physio and Scout. All staff are earning between £500 and £1,000 per week.

Martin Edwards has been announced as the chairman. Edwards was the chairman of Manchester United for 22 years, from 1980 until 2002. Edwards is also a honorary life president at United, but was glad to have the opportunity to take a more direct role in a club linked to Manchester United. Martin Edwards will hope to build the team to be as strong as Manchester United soon.

Eric Cantona, also known as King Eric has been announced as the manger of Newton Heath. Eric had a five year spell as a forward in Manchester, scoring 64 goals in 143 from 1992-1997. Cantona was then involved in beach football for the France National Team, and has recently left his post as a Director of Football at the New York Cosmos to become a manager in Manchester.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will assist Eric with Newton Heath, following his retirement after the 2011/12 season. Ruud had previously stated his intent to become a coach, but jumped at the chance after having played for United across five years, scoring 95 in 150 as a striker.

Meanwhile, Bryan Robson has been announced as the Head of Youth Development, having played as a Red Devil for 13 years. Andrew Cole will be the first team coach, who had an 8 year stint at the club. Peter Schmeichel has become the goalkeeping coach, who was a goalkeeper for Manchester United for 8 successful years. Finally, Nicky Butt joined as the club physio and Roy Keane will be the club scout. Butt played for United for 13 years and Keane played for 12 years.

Great choice in the staff, and most of all in Eric Cantona as the manager... I loved him when he was ManUtd's player! :D
Great couple of staff, especially Cantona as manager!
Justice: Thanks :)

Mvan12: Thanks, so am I :P

gambit84: King Eric was class, an easy decision to make for him to be manager!

GlennT: Thanks, hopefully he does as well as a manager as he did as a player! ;)
