Another nice update on the man himself.
wellsy1498: I kind of had to do the research on him as I know nothing about the guy. The next update will come shortly :)
OK, you got the first part right be getting rid of Wenger, but err....O'Leary, really?
Great stuff... A James story is always good. I woildve liked a West Ham or a low PL club.
The Special One: I had to find someone that was realistic in terms of having already been a manager and someone that has a close connection to the club. The focus will be more on what he does to the team rather than him as a person as I have already introduced him.

PaukerJ: Sorry to disappoint with the team choice but always wanted to do an Arsenal story and I think it is going to be a bit of a challenge to get them back to how they use to be! I hope you will follow as always Pauker.

O’Leary Unveiled

David O’Leary has today been officially unveiled, by Peter Hill-Wood, as the new manager of Arsenal Football Club. The chairman and new manager met with journalists this morning in the press room, at the Emirates Stadium, to answer questions from the gathered media.

Peter started the press conference off by welcoming the media and officially naming David O’Leary as the new manager of Arsenal. He stated he was delighted that David had agreed to take charge of the club and he was excited about the upcoming season. Peter then introduced David to the journalists who then aimed their questions at him.

David was firstly asked how he felt about being given the opportunity to manage the club that he served so well during his playing career. He said he was excited about the prospect of standing on the touch line at the Emirates Stadium in front of the passionate fans and it’s a dream come true for him. He went on to say that he was desperate to get started with him having already met his backroom staff and set out his plans for pre-season. David was then asked about his priorities this season in terms of competitions. His reply was that the performing well in the Premier League had to be the main priority and to ensure that the club did not just settle for a fourth place finish as they had in previous years. A journalist suggested that the new manager would have to be heavily involved in order for this to happen and for him to start reshaping this club from today. David made the journalist aware that he fully understood the task at hand and had already started to identify areas of development in terms of the club, specifically the playing squad.

Arsenal have always been known as a passing team who like to retain possession and play their way into the box. O’Leary suggested that this would be the way his team would play but unlike previous seasons there would be a plan b for the team to change to. When he was asked to expand on this, he said simply, “It is important for the team to attack the game but remain responsible at the back and don’t become prone to defending counter attacks.”

A journalists seeked clarification on recent rumours that Arsenal had been interested in signing both Gonzalo Higuain and Diego Perotti. David suggested that these two players had not been his transfer targets but that of the previous management. He said he would be identifying his own targets after extensive deliberation and that he was keen to adopt a similar ethos in terms of wages as Arsene Wenger did.

Peter Hill-Wood intervened at this point and brought the press conference to an end with him thanking the gathered media and David O’Leary for agreeing to become the new manager of Arsenal.
A really nice update James I am really looking forward to seeing you take charge of my team. Good luck.
A James Gallagher story is always one worth following! ;)
Nice update James (if that is your real name :P ). I wonder who'll you be able to sign.
Great start mate, Im loving it.
Thank you guys. I am finding it tough to write as if I am David O'Leary but the positive comments reassure me that I must be doing something right! I will try and get more updates posted soon...already got the next 6 written.

What were Arsenal thinking?

Gary Neville speaking to Sky Sports News:

I simply cannot get my head round what Arsenal were thinking in dismissing Arsene Wenger and replacing him with a man who has had mixed success in club management. Even though Wenger appeared to settle for Champions League football for the past few seasons this should have been seen as a terrific achievement after the emergence of a dominant Manchester City side and the fact that their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have progressed into one of the top sides in the country. Despite not possessing the same quality as they have in previous years, Arsenal, under the leadership of Wenger, still had the potential this coming season to be a strong contender for some silverware. This in conjunction with Wenger’s hunger and desire for trophies I would have tipped them to have been possible title candidates. I am confident that if he had been given time he could have turned the club’s fortunes around and with some investment we could have seen an Arsenal side of old.

I cannot fathom why the board of directors would bring in a manager who has simply not won anything in his time as a manager. Yes, he has a strong link to the club but this surely cannot be enough to warrant the position of manager. David O’Leary did manage to guide a young Leeds United side to the semi final stage of the Champions League but I cannot see that as a credential that can get you a job at one of the top clubs in the country. Furthermore, Wenger managed to get his Arsenal side to the final of the same competition. I just cannot get my head around what David O’Leary can bring to Arsenal that wasn’t already been done by Arsene Wenger. In my opinion the decision was ludicrous and the Arsenal fans should be worried about what may happen to their club.
Gary always has something to say dont he.... :P
