May and June update

Hi guys. First of all, sorry for not updating my story for a few days. I have not been at home, but now I return with a two month update!

May and June have given me some ups and downs. An unbeaten run has come to an end, and a disappointing cup defeat stopped the dream for a cup final.

League table

My unbeaten run has sadly ended, and the gap up to first place is 4 points. Soon halfway though the season, this could easily turn out to be a fight between Vålerenga and us for the first place with Brann as an outsider for the spot.

Fixtures in July

Tromsø - Viking
Aalesund - Viking
Viking - Sogndal
Lillestrøm - Viking

Match of the month:
Sogndal will get a tough match against Viking when they travel south to Stavanger. Viking is the team with the best home record (W6 D0 L1) in the league. Can Jonas Olsson's men beat a Viking team on a downhill form?

Now I want to hear from you that read my story: What do you think of the story? How do you like my style of writing? Something you like? Something you miss? Something I should get rid of? Please leave a comment :-)
You are doing really well in the league. For your first story it is very good :P

Some new writers come on and they are not that good but this one is a great read. Maybe some more 'story' pieces like apart from results but this is still a great read.

July update

Another month has passed with four league matches which have given various results.

Match reports

Viking lucky to beat Tromsø

Tromsø 2 - 3 Viking
Olsen (10')
Berisha (31')
Kjæve (73', 83')
Elyounoussi (76')
de Lanlay

Tromsø manager Kjell Jonevret met his old diciples when Viking visited Alfheim stadium for the 14th round of the league. Viking started the goal rush after ten minutes when Trond Olsen snapped up a bad pass from Tromsø goalkeeper Marcus Sahlman to make it 1-0 to the navy blue. Tromsø pushed on for an equaliser, but it was Viking and Veton Berisha who got the next goal which made it 2-0 to Henrik Steinnes's men at half-time.

The second half showed a Tromsø team pushing for a goal, which came when Håkon Kjæve out-paced the Viking defence and put the ball behind Rune Almenning Jarstein to pull one back. However, three minutes later, Viking substitute Mohammed Elyounoussi picked up a loose ball and gave Viking back their two-goal lead. Håkon Kjæve scored his second for the day after 83 minutes, but Viking controlled their lead until the final whistle.

Steinnes was a happy man after the match. "I'm very satisfied with this result. We showed strength keeping the lead and we managed to keep focus when they scored.". He was also happy with Yann-Erik de Lanlay's performance with gave him the MotM award. "He played great today, he really did. I expect to see more of this in the next matches as well."

Disappointing performance from Viking

Aalesund 0 - 0 Viking
Arnefjord

It was easy to see that Viking manager Henrik Steinnes was angered after a 0-0 draw against Aalesund, placed at 15th in the league. "We were piss poor today. The fact that we didn't get to any chances throughout the game is nothing but disappointing from our side."

Solid victory for Steinnes's men

Viking 4 - 1 Sogndal
Bertelsen (3')
Remme Berge (42')
Valsvik (54')
Næss Lund (78')
Bödvarsson (81')
Bödvarsson

Viking showed why they are title contenders when Sogndal was thrashed 4-1. The first goal came after just three minutes. Trond Erik Bertelsen had left his left-back position to join an attack which he had the honours of ending when he put the ball behind Erik Hove's net. Just a few minutes before half-time, Sebastian Remme Berge doubled Viking lead with a shot from right outside the box.

Ten minutes in to the second half, Gustav Valsvik was unlucky and put a Trond Olsen freekick in his own net to make it 3-0 to Viking. With 17 minutes left to play, Trond Erik Bertelsen had to leave the pitch due to injury. In the 78th minute, Espen Næss Lund pulled one back for Sogndal, but Jón Dadi Bödvarsson scored Viking's fourth for the evening just minutes later.

Henrik Steinnes met the press after the match with a smile on his face. "We were truly great today. Everything seemed to work perfectly today." On questions about Bertelsen's injury he had this to say: "It is a broken rib. He is out for about two months."

Viking stumbles when looking for 1st spot

Lillestrøm 3 - 2 Viking
Bassey (35')
Berisha ( 41', 43')
Vaagan Moen (61', 90')
Thioune
Vaagan Moen
Vaagan Moen

Viking were looking to take over the top spot from Vålerenga after they lost 1-0 to Haugesund the day before, but didn't get any help from Lillestrøm. Effiom Bassey sent Lillestrøm 1-0 up after 35 minutes. The task got worse for Viking when Makhtar Thioune recieved his second yellow card and was sent off after just 38 minutes. Despite being just ten men, Viking went 2-1 up at half-time thanks to two quick goals from Veton Berisha.

With 30 minutes left of the match, Petter Vaagan Moen equalised for Lillestrøm. Viking got more and more tired of playing with only ten men throughout the match. In the 88th minute, right back Eirik Skaasheim fouled Petter Vaagan Moen inside the box. Referee Per Ivar Staberg was not in doubt and gave Lillestrøm a penalty. Vaagan Moen stepped up to take it, but Rune Almenning Jarstein saved the shot. However, in the 90th minute, Vaagan Moen got his second goal of the day to make sure that all three points stayed at Åråsen.

Viking manager Henrik Steinnes left Åråsen without seeing the press, but captain Indridi Sigurdsson told that his manager was very angry and upset after the match.

League table

The title race is now more open than it was in June, with just seven points dividing 1st place and 4th place. We are also on the last half of the league and it can be an exciting end to it.

Fixtures in August

Strømsgodset - Viking
Viking - Sandnes Ulf
Viking - Molde
Haugesund - Viking

Match of the month:

Not many would have predicted before the season that Viking - Sandnes Ulf would be not only a local derby, but also a match between two teams involved in the title race. This extra dimension will definetly bring more excitement in both camps before the match.

Match reports

Late Viking win in Almenning Jarstein's last game

Strømsgodset 0 - 2 Viking
Skaasheim (86')
Anier (90')
Skaasheim

The match at Marienlyst was the goodbye for Viking goalkeeper Rune Almenning Jarstein as he tries his luck in Italy and Bari. It was a not so entertaining game with nothing special happening until the last ten minutes. Right back Eirik Skaasheim's, who was awarded the MotM award, goal in the 86th minute was a clear contender for Goal of the Season with a lucky strike from 35 meters to chip Strømsgodset goalie Sead Ramovic. In extra time, Henri Anier found the back of the net to double the score in the dying minutes of the game.

After the match, Viking manager Henrik Steinnes praised Almenning Jarstein. "He is truly a great goalkeeper, and we are of course sad to see him leave, but he felt that he needed a new challenge abroad and the club cannot force him to stay if he wants to leave. I wish him all well in Bari, and hope that we will stay in contact." Almenning Jarstein played a total of 104 games for Viking since joining them in 2010.

Sandnes Ulf not strong enough rivals Viking

Viking 2 - 1 Sandnes Ulf
Berisha (19')
Thioune (45+1', pen)
Thorsteinsson (73')
Lundberg

It was all set for a special local derby when 2nd placed Viking and 4th placed Sandnes Ulf faced each other in Viking stadion. Veton Berisha scored the opening goal in the 19th minute when he snapped the ball from the chaos in the box. One minute into the first half extra time, Avni Pepa fouled Berisha inside the box and conceded a penalty. Makhtar Thioune was safe from the spot to make it 2-0 at half time. The second half was not as exciting as the first, but a goal from Steinthor Thorsteinsson sparked a little chance of hope in the Sandnes Ulf camp, but Viking controlled it in to finish it 2-1. "It was not the best game we have played so it was good to see that we managed to get all three points in the end." Viking manager Henrik Steinnes said on the press conference after the match.

Bossut and Johansen makes their first apperances as Viking take over 1st place

Viking 2 - 0 Molde
Bödvarsson (3')
de Lanlay (84')
Bödvarsson

The Belgian goalkeeper Sammy Bossut made his Viking debut when Viking faced Molde for a match that could send Viking on top of the league. After just three minutes, Jón Dadi Bödvarsson scored from a well struck cross by Trond Olsen to send Viking 1-0 up at half-time. In the 68th minute, the Viking supporters welcomed an other debutant when Stefan Johansen replaced Makhtar Thioune. Yann-Erik de Lanlay doubled the score six minutes before full time to ensure that Viking climbed up to 1st place.

Stefan Johansen was satisfied with his debut and shared his joy with the press after the match. "It was great to get my first appearance for Viking today. Hopefully I will get in the starting XI soon, but I know I'll need to perform in both match and in training to earn my spot." Manager Henrik Steinnes was also pleased with Johansen's performance. "He played well today. He affected the game when being subbed on. I look forward to see him develop in the club."

Shock defeat for Viking

Haugesund 3 - 1 Viking
Khalili (25')
Fevang (29')
Anier (86')
Keita (90')
Khalili

Viking manager Henrik Steinnes left Haugesund stadion without seeing the press after Viking's shock defeat to Haugesund. Assistant manager Kåre Ingebrigtsen, who attended the press conference instead of Steinnes, indicated that the Viking manager was furious after the poor performance from his team.

Many predicted an easy win for Viking, but it was Haugesund and Aram Khalili who opened the scoreline in the 25th minute. Four minutes later, Geir Ludvig Fevang made a tricky situation worse for Steinnes's men. Henri Anier gave Viking a little glimpse of hope when he scored in the 86th minute, but Muhamed Keita scored Haugesund's third goal of the evening four minutes later to make the final score 3-1.

September update

A disappointing month gave us just one victory out of five. We have dropped from first place, but the title is far from out of reach.

Match reports

Poor performances from Viking and Odd

Viking 1 - 1 Odd
Johnsen (67')
Berisha (79')
Lædre Bjørdal

Viking had the opportunity to secure their top spot with a victory against Odd who are stuggling in the relegation battle, but niether sides had a good day at work.

It was a game with few chances for both teams. Odd's Frode Johnsen was the first to find the back of the net when he finished a good attack. It was the 39-year old's fourth goal of the season, but it did not gain Odd a victory as Veton Berisha leveled the score 12 minutes later so ensure a point for both teams.

Viking's manager Henrik Steinnes was not pleased after the match. "This was a must-win match that we did not manage to win. It concerns me. A poor display can be crucial in the title race, and it will be a tough end to the season." He was although happy with Veton Berisha's performance. "He did perform well today with another great goal. He is very talented, and will has a great future ahead of him."

Late, but deserved win for Rosenborg

Rosenborg 2 - 1 Viking
Bossut (46')
Anier (57')
Buval (90')
Berntsen

It was an in-form Rosenborg who faced title contender Viking in an entertainting display at Lerkendal this evening. Rosenborg was the more hungry side and pushed on for a goal throughout the whole first half, but no goals had been scored at the break.

It did not however take long until they scored. Not a minute had been played of the second half when a corner ended up with Viking keeper Sammy Bossut being unlucky to get a clearance on his back and in the net to give Rosenborg the lead. Against the run of play, Henri Anier leveled the match in the 57th minute. Rosenborg had to wait until the 90th minute to get their deserved victory as Bédi Buval parked the Viking defence and scored a great goal.

Henrik Steinnes had this to say after the match: "We did not deserve to win today. It was a poor result, and this will definetly cost us in the end. Rosenborg outplayed us and we couldn't stand a chance. We are on bad form now and something must be done to turn it around."

Brann - Viking, the derby which did not live up to it's expectaions

Brann 0 - 0 Viking
Jonsson

The Best in West derby has big expectations to be one of the better in long time. Brann and Viking is placed in 1st and 2nd place in the league and everyone was hoping to see a match with two attacking teams. Sadly, the match consisted of two defensive teams with no intentions of searching for a winning goal. Brann manager Rune Skarsfjord felt insulted by the lack of will in the Viking team. "They didn't even want to play football today. Steinnes should be ashamed by the way they played. It's an insult to the beautiful game." Steinnes did not take Skarsfjord's words so seriously. "He is just pissed because he couldn't outsmart me tactically." Their relationship has never been of the best kind, and after today's match, it has not become better.

Johansen gets his first goal in important Viking win

Viking 3 - 2 Hønefoss
Örn Sigurdsson (13')
Lædre Bjørdal (26')
Lafton (62')
Johansen (64')
Anier (78')
Olsen

Viking got their first win of the month against Hønefoss in an exciting match at Viking stadion. It was Hønefoss and Kristján Örn Sigurdsson that scored first after a well struck set piece after just 13 minutes. Viking got their equaliser in the 26th minute. Johan Lædre Bjørdal scored with a great header from a Trond Olsen corner.

The second half was 17 minutes old when Hønefoss regained the lead with a powerful header from club legend Frode Lafton. Viking responded quicky and put the teams back level just two minutes later. Stefan Johansen scored the first goal of his Viking career with a great strike from just outside the box. Henri Anier got the hounours of securing a Viking victory with twelve minutes left on the clock.

After the match, Viking manager Henrik Steinnes met the press to a post-match press conference. "I'm more relieved than happy with our result today. We definetly needed this win to keep our morals up. It does not help to have a good squad if they aren't motivated to perform well."

10-men Viking with one point as birthday present for Steinnes

Viking 0 - 0 Start
Thioune
Sigurdsson

Viking was hoping to give manager Henrik Steinnes three points as a gift on his birthday, but got a more difficult evening than expected. Start defended well through the whole game and did not let Viking to chances. It was maybe a birthday card and not a red card Steinnes wanted from Makhtar Thioune today, but a dreadful tackle ensured an early shower for Thioune.

Steinnes had hoped for a good performance on his birthday, but had to admit they are struggling at the moment. "You can just see our performances this month. Just one win out of five matches is not good enough for a team with our standards." He was also asked about what consequences Thioune's red card will give. "I have fined him and he has accepted it. He was ashamed of himself after the game when I talked to him and he said that he will keep his cool in the future.

League table

We have dropped down to third place, but just two points behind Brann in first place. It is also interesting to see that Sandnes Ulf has got themselves involved in the title race. With just four matches left, this looks like one hell of a thriller end to the season.
